The development of next generation of industrialcontrol to meet business requirement and elegantly utilize the latest information technologies has been a challenge and opportunity to industrialcontrol community in coming decades. The purposes of this presentation are to provide an analytical review of the recent trends of future industrialcontrols, and then to investigate the potential applications of internet of things, sensor network and the concept of smart planet in building an enterprise-wide industrialcontrolsystems with integration of control, computer, communication and network technologies. Finally, a number of open R&D problems are proposed in the section of concluding remarks.

Model Predictive controltechnology as the most typical method of Advanced Process control has been developed rapidly and applied widely in process industry. Weather MPC controllers operate well or not affect the enterprise benefit directly, therefore it is significant to carry out economic performance assessment and optimization. As a pragmatic method, LQG benchmark introduces manipulated variables together with controlled variables into quadratic dynamic index, which is more suitable for industrial application than Minimum Variance control benchmark. However, traditional LQG benchmark is regressed from an unbalanced distribution of discrete points set, which causes unnecessary calculation and poor regression in more important parts of points set. To avoid this, the relationship between manipulated variables variance and controlled variables variance was calculated, an equal-grid LQG benchmark was introduced and added in two layers MPC optimization problem as an equation constraint, then the optimal MPC setting values or reference trajectory could be obtained. The economic performance assessment and simulation results for delayed coking furnace show the effect of proposed methods.

Model predictive controltechnology can now be found widely in a variety of applications including petroleum, chemical and papermaking industries. An approach is proposed to decide a benchmark and monitor model predictive control performance on-line. A performance measure based on multi-step prediction error benchmark is shown to be more realistic without the requirement of process models or interactor matrix. A practical on-line monitoring strategy is presented which emphasizes the use of routine operating data plus the order of the interactor matrix to determine when it becomes worthwhile to re-identify the plant dynamics and re-install the model predictive control application.

To avoid the problem of estimating a general interactor, an improved computational method for user-specified benchmark is presented in this paper. The improved user-specified benchmark together with the historical benchmark are then specified as two parallel benchmarks to form an integrated performance assessment strategy, which can detect any change in the performance of a control system and identify the potential improvement that can be made to the performance of the control system. Simulated examples are provided to illustrate the validity of the proposed methods.

Abstract A comprehensive simulation and optimization platform which offers a lot of functions such as decision analysis, production scheduling optimization and process dynamic simulation is urgently required for today's process industry. But this will generate a series of model management problems because models integrated in the platform belong to different classifications and interact with each other in some special applications. In this paper, a model management platform for refinery multi-level simulation and optimization is introduced. The platform, referring to a classical model management framework in decision supporting area, integrates different refinery models for different users and can coordinate computational tasks between models for multi-level application.

Abstract This paper is concerned with the stabilization problem of wireless networked controlsystems with network-induced delays of time-varying Markovian characterization. The effects of the sample rate changing on the network induced delay is the main topic. At first place, the time delay matrices changing stochastically and arbitrarily are considered. A state feedback controller is designed to guarantee the resulting close-loop system stochastically stable. Following that, a bridge is built to give out a uniform work. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and potential of the developed theoretical results.
