Energy Oriented Three-Tier Computation Offloading Scheme in Maritime Edge Computing Network

With the development of maritime continuing to grow, large-scale maritime wireless devices (MWDs) are being deployed for various maritime applications. The rapid development of maritime Internet of Things (IoT) and growing demand for these applications have led to an increasing number of computation-intensive and resource-sensitive tasks. Considering the limited computing capacity and energy of MWDs, it is challenging to transmit and process massive maritime computing tasks in an energy efficient manner. In this paper, we propose a three-tier maritime edge computing system in which low earth orbit (LEO) satellite and offshore base station (OBS) support to provide communication and computing services for MWDs. The system optimizes association variable, task partitioning, transmission power, and computing resource allocation to reduce system energy consumption under latency constraints. The optimization problem is formulated as a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) optimization problem. We decompose the original problem into four subproblems and design algorithms to solve them. Firstly, the association variable optimization subproblem is solved by slack variable method. Then, we adopt quadratic transformation and design a difference of convex algorithm to solve transmission power optimization subproblem. Further, task partitioning subproblem is solved by obtaining upper and lower bounds of offloading task size by strict deduction, and then solved by the standard convex method. Finally, Lagrangian dual method is utilized to deal with joint computing resource optimization subproblem of LEO satellite and OBS. In simulation results, the proposed algorithm saves 39.3% of system energy consumption compared to benchmark schemes. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Young's double slit interference with vortex source

The fast and convenient demultiplex of optical vortex(OV) mode is crucial for its further application. We propose a novel approach that combines classic Young's doublet with an OV source to effectively identify the OV mode through the analysis of interference patterns. The interference patterns of the OV source incident on the double slits can be perfectly illustrated by using both the classical double-slit interference method and the Huygens–Fresnel principle. The interference fringes will twist along the negative or positive direction of x axis when topological charge(TC)l>0 or l<0, and the degree of the movement varies with the TC, allowing for a quantitative display of the OV characteristics through the interference patterns. Additionally, we deduce analytically that the zeroth-order interference fringe has a linear relationship with the TC and the vertical position. These findings highlight the ability to identify the OV mode by analyzing the interference patterns produced by Young's doublet.

Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain due to adversative or challenging situations. A human may undergo bad life experiences or events, and it is a significant issue to be dealt in today's society. It comes as a result of family situations, health concerns, work environments and people's behavior among other things. It affects people of various ages, including children, teenagers, middle-aged people and senior citizens. It has serious consequences affecting human body and life. These problems can be addressed by detecting mental stress at an early stage. The main goal of the propounded system is to identify human stress using a pre-trained Mini-Xception model. Additional measures such as eye moments, mouth activity and head motion are employed for determining the level of human stress. FER2013 dataset is used and the system is tested for all kinds of emotions. Human stress level is experimented by capturing video using webcam. From the experimental outcomes, it is evident that the proposed system offers better performance in terms of Precision, Accuracy, Specificity and Sensitivity in contrast to traditional methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

As an emerging technology, Software-Defined Industrial Networks (SDIN) appears to be a vital technical approach for powering up new manufacturing modes due to its higher-level scalability and controllability. However, a few threats are still restricting the implementation of SDIN and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) is one of the common attacks. In this paper, we focus on the DDoS issue in SDIN, and propose a blockchain-empower SDIN scheme and an Auxiliary Classifier Generative Adversarial Networks (AC-GAN)-based DDoS attack detection model. Image segmentation is an important problem in the field of image processing. Traditional multi-threshold image segmentation faces the problems of inefficiency and lack of real-time performance. In order to improve these problems, a Kapur multi-threshold segmentation algorithm based on the improved hybrid krill herd algorithm is proposed, which adopts a novel population iterative approach limited to the top krill to effectively alleviate the phenomenon of excessive aggregation of krill. Building on this foundation, the differential evolutionary algorithm is combined with the krill herd algorithm, which provides a sufficient search range to strengthen the ability of the algorithm to jump out of the local optimum. The experimental results of multi-threshold segmentation on three classical test images show that the proposed improved algorithm can achieve higher segmentation accuracy and quality, and the convergence rate is mostly above 90%, which verifies the reliability and effectiveness of the algorithm in multi-threshold image segmentation problems. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

One of the most important services provided by cloud service providers (CSPs), cloud storage is economically attractive and can provide on-demand data storage service to resource-constrained tenants in the manner of pay-per-use. Therefore, by embracing cloud storage service, tenants can store their large-scale data on the remote cloud host to tremendously reduce local storage burden and computational overhead. However, due to the separation of cloud data ownership and management, cloud storage inevitably suffers from a few new security challenges, such as fine-grained cloud data deletion. To achieve data deletion in cloud storage, we design a vector-commitment-based publicly verifiable data deletion scheme, which can achieve data integrity auditing and block-based fine-grained data deletion. Specifically, our proposed scheme disguises the data deletion operation as data update operation. Therefore, the tenants can achieve data deletion by updating the cloud data blocks with some unrelated data blocks. Meanwhile, the tenants can prevent cloud data from being polluted by periodically performing data integrity auditing operation, thus guaranteeing that the cloud host sincerely maintains the data. Moreover, we formally analyze the security, which shows that our proposed scheme can satisfy all of the anticipative security requirements without interaction with a centralized third party. Finally, we develop a prototype system and evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, which can intuitively demonstrate the high-efficiency and practicality of our proposal. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.
