Vishing attacks, or voice phishing attacks, are a type of social engineering attack in which attackers use voice communication channels, such as phone calls, to trick victims into divulging sensitive information or performing actions that compromise their security. Vishing attacks have become increasingly common in recent years and can have severe consequences for individuals, businesses, and organizations. In this review, we examine various prevention and mitigation techniques that can be used to defend against vishing attacks. We start by discussing the common tactics used by attackers and how they exploit vulnerabilities in human behaviour to achieve their goals. We then present an overview of different prevention and mitigation techniques, including education and awareness campaigns, technical solutions such as authentication mechanisms and policy-based approaches. We also evaluate the effectiveness of different techniques, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, and provide guidance on how to implement a comprehensive vishing defence strategy. Finally, we discuss emerging trends and challenges in vishing attacks and defence, such as the use of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology, and suggest directions for future research and development. Overall, this review provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the current state of vishing attacks and defence, and should be of interest to researchers, practitioners, and individuals who want to enhance their knowledge and understanding of this important topic. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The proposed models can design the airfoil by Cuckoo search with Levenberg-Marquardt. The Neural Network framework has impediments due to over-fitting. This paper proposed a modified cuckoo search. here the aerodynamic coefficient as an input to produce output the airfoil coordinates. The generated airfoil is compared to know its performance metrics. The Cuckoo search with the Feedforward Neural Network model yields the lowest prediction error. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of effective drug therapies is a complex and multifaceted problem involving various biological, chemical, and computational challenges. Traditional drug development methods are often time-consuming and costly, necessitating innovative approaches. Multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) have emerged as a powerful tool for optimizing drug design by simultaneously considering multiple conflicting objectives, such as efficacy, safety, and cost. This paper reviews the application of MOGAs in drug discovery, highlighting their principles, advantages, and case studies, and discussing future directions in the field. Enhancing MOGAs in drug discovery are also outlined, emphasizing the integration with machine learning, advancements in computational infrastructure, and the potential for personalized medicine. Genetic algorithms (GAs) are a powerful class of optimization techniques inspired by the principles of natural selection and genetics. One of the theoretical cornerstones of GAs is schema theory, which provides a framework for understanding how building blocks of solutions, known as schemas, are propagated and combined through generations. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive theoretical analysis of schema formation in genetic algorithms. It delves into the foundational principles of schema theory, including the schema theorem and its implications for the efficiency and behavior of GAs. The paper also explores advanced topics such as schema disruption mechanisms, the impact of multimodal and epistatic fitness landscapes, and the integration of schema theory with hybrid approaches. Alzheimer's Disease (AD) poses significant challenges in research due to limited access to longitudinal patient data caused by privacy constraints. This study uses deep learning, specifically Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), to generate synthetic datasets that replicate real-world AD data while preserving privacy. These datasets were used to train and compare survival analysis models, including Survival XGBoost, Survival Transformers, and the Cox Proportional Hazards model. Results show that deep learning and boosting models outperform the standard Cox model in predicting the progression of AD, achieving a higher degree of accuracy. Our findings suggest that combining synthetic data with advanced machine learning models can improve predictive capabilities in healthcare research, particularly when real patient data is restricted.

Enhancing Fruit and Vegetable Detection in Unconstrained Environment with a Novel dataset

Automating the detection of fruits and vegetables using computer vision is essential for modernizing agriculture, improving efficiency, ensuring food quality, and contributing to technologically advanced and sustainable farming practices. This paper presents an end-to-end pipeline for detecting and localizing fruits and vegetables in real-world scenarios. To achieve this, we have curated a dataset named FRUVEG67 that includes images of 67 classes of fruits and vegetables captured in unconstrained scenarios, with only a few manually annotated samples per class. We have developed a semi-supervised data annotation algorithm (SSDA) that generates bounding boxes for objects to label the remaining non-annotated images. For detection, we introduce the Fruit and Vegetable Detection Network (FVDNet), an ensemble version of YOLOv7 featuring three distinct grid configurations. We employ an averaging approach for bounding-box prediction and a voting mechanism for class prediction. We have integrated Jensen-Shannon divergence (JSD) in conjunction with focal loss to better detect smaller objects. Our experimental results highlight the superiority of FVDNet compared to previous versions of YOLO, showcasing remarkable improvements in detection and localization performance. We achieved an impressive mean average precision (mAP) score of 0.78 across all classes. Furthermore, we evaluated the efficacy of FVDNet using open-category refrigerator images, where it demonstrates promising results. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Sleep apnea is the most prevalent sleep disorder. In severe cases, it can even lead to sudden death. To diagnose sleep apnea, it is critical to measure the number of sleep arousal times per hour. Current clinical standard procedures require patients to visit a sleep center or hospital for polysomnography (PSG), in which the patient's physiological signals are recorded during the night, and a sleep technician then interprets these signals manually to determine the sleep-wake pattern. With the rising number of sleep disorders, sleep technologists cannot afford such a high workload, which makes the development of an automated sleep arousal detection system critical to reducing medical costs. When PSG is recorded, a large number of wires will also interfere with the patient and cause measurement distortion. In this study, a spatial-channel attention (SCA) U-Net for automatic sleep arousal detection was proposed, which was trained and tested on PhysioNet 2018 sleep PSG dataset. Considering clinical applicability and reducing patient disturbance when recording physiological signals, only five physiological signal channels were required for our proposed model. It is much lower than other methods in the literature. The A AUPRC of our proposed model was and 39%. The results showed the proposed method is highly accurate and requires fewer channel signals, that also demonstrated the clinical applicability and robustness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

The HVAC system, energy storage building, distributed power supply, and other equipment are integrated into the scheduling algorithm, which is aimed at reducing household electricity consumption. It is also assumed that users can provide energy to the grid according to their own conditions. Taking electricity cost and comfort level as optimization targets, a home energy optimization control model for the coordinated management of hybrid energy sources is built. A smart scheduling mechanism based on the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization approach is proposed in order to derive the best time intervals for electric appliances, necessary power for the control of the room temperature for every time frame, and power for charging and discharging of the storage battery at various moments. Simulation results show that through the incorporation of distributed photovoltaic power generation, backup storage by battery, and home energy optimization control, the system efficiently balances between user comfort and electricity consumption. This offers great technical support to the development of home energy management systems. By using time-of-use electricity price for energy acquisition and supply, the optimization control goal is minimizing both power use and cost as well as preserving comfort levels. The hybrid energy management's proposed home energy optimization control model uses an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal operation schedules of the electrical appliances, the required power for temperature control in a room, and the charge/discharge power level of the storage battery at each time interval. As per the optimization principle, the proposed dynamic programming algorithm converts the multi-stage problem into a sequence of single-stage problems and solves them separately. The importance of faster drug development has never been more evident than in present time when the whole world is struggling to cope up with the COVID-19 pandemic. At times when timely development of effective drugs and treatment plans could potentially save millions of lives, drug repurposing is one area of medicine that has garnered much of research interest. Apart from experimental drug repurposing studies that happen within wet labs, lot many new quantitative methods have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, one such quantitative methods for drug repurposing is implemented and evaluated. DruSiLa (DRUg in-SIlico LAboratory) is an in-silico drug repurposing method that leverages disease similarity measures to quantitatively rank existing drugs for their potential therapeutic efficacy against novel diseases. The proposed method makes use of available, manually curated, and open datasets on diseases, their genetic origins, and disease-related patho-phenotypes. DruSiLa evaluates pairwise disease similarity scores of any given target disease to each known disease in our dataset. Such similarity scores are then propagated through disease-drug associations, and aggregated at drug nodes to rank them for their predicted effectiveness against the target disease. © 2022 IEEE.
