Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model’s capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Fingerprint Presentation Attack Detector Using Global-Local Model

The vulnerability of automated fingerprint recognition systems (AFRSs) to presentation attacks (PAs) promotes the vigorous development of PA detection (PAD) technology. However, PAD methods have been limited by information loss and poor generalization ability, resulting in new PA materials and fingerprint sensors. This paper thus proposes a global-local model-based PAD (RTK-PAD) method to overcome those limitations to some extent. The proposed method consists of three modules, called: 1) the global module;2) the local module;and 3) the rethinking module. By adopting the cut-out-based global module, a global spoofness score predicted from nonlocal features of the entire fingerprint images can be achieved. While by using the texture in-painting-based local module, a local spoofness score predicted from fingerprint patches is obtained. The two modules are not independent but connected through our proposed rethinking module by localizing two discriminative patches for the local module based on the global spoofness score. Finally, the fusion spoofness score by averaging the global and local spoofness scores is used for PAD. Our experimental results evaluated on LivDet 2017 show that the proposed RTK-PAD can achieve an average classification error (ACE) of 2.28% and a true detection rate (TDR) of 91.19% when the false detection rate (FDR) equals 1.0%, which significantly outperformed the state-of-the-art methods by ∼10% in terms of TDR (91.19% versus 80.74%). Semi-Supervised Feature Selection Based on Fuzzy Related Family

Existing machine learning algorithms face the problems of label-missing and high dimensionality. Feature selection is an effective dimensionality reduction method that can improve the efficiency and accuracy of subsequent machine learning tasks by removing irrelevant and redundant features. Related family is an efficient and rough set-based feature selection method, but is difficult to be used in simisupervised learning tasks. However, due to the difficulty of obtaining all labeled data, partially labeled data has become an important object that machine learning models must deal with. Therefore, this paper proposes a semi-supervised fuzzy related family-based feature selection method for partially labeled data. This method first calculates the fuzzy label values of unlabeled samples through fuzzy similarity relationships to establish a new fuzzy covering system. Then, based on the fuzzy covering system, it constructs a fuzzy related family based on consistent fuzzy set. Finally, based on the constructed feature significance measurement, a semi-supervised feature selection algorithm based on fuzzy related family (SFRF) is established. Compared with existing semi-supervised feature selection algorithms, SFRF can significantly improve the efficiency of feature selection while maintaining classification accuracy, with the average reduction efficiency of nine datasets increased by up to 201 times. © 2023, The Authors. RIS-Assisted Passive Localization (RAPL): An Efficient Zero-Overhead Framework Using Conditional Sample Mean

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) has been recognized as a promising solution for enhancing localization accuracy. Traditional RIS-based localization methods typically rely on prior channel knowledge, beam scanning, and pilot-based assistance. These approaches often result in substantial energy and computational overhead, and require real-time coordination between the base station (BS) and the RIS. To address these challenges, in this work, we move beyond conventional methods and introduce a novel data-driven, multiple RISs-assisted passive localization approach (RAPL). The proposed method includes two stages, the angle-of-directions (AoDs) between the RISs and the user is estimated by using the conditional sample mean in the first stage, and then the user’s position is determined based on the estimated multiple AoD pairs in the second stage. This approach only utilizes the existing communication signals between the user and the BS, relying solely on the measurement of received signal power at each BS antenna for a set of randomly generated phase shifts across all RISs. Moreover, by obviating the need for real-time RIS phase shift optimization or user-to-BS pilot transmissions, the method introduces no additional communication overhead, making it highly suitable for deployment in real-world networks. The proposed scheme is then extended to multi-RIS scenarios considering both parallel and cascaded RIS topologies. Numerical results show that the proposed RAPL improves localization accuracy while significantly reducing energy and signaling overhead compared to conventional methods. IoT for smart microgrids is an innovative disruption at the cutting edge of energy management, relying on interconnectedness provided by smart sensors and devices to enhance power generation and distribution precision in metropolitan areas. The problems of the real-time operational capabilities required for efficient energy resource management thus progress, inhibit rapid control and management. The main goal of this research proposal consists of to use of the advanced technology of 5G NR Sidelink combined with MQTT to conduct a revolutionary communication system of Microgrid running through the IoT devices. The 5G NR (New Radio) Sidelink enables direct D2D communication, which leads to a dramatic lowering of the latency in the absence of traditional network infrastructures for communication, while the MQTT protocol improves the communication efficiency among networks of numerous IoT devices. The introduction of this system was followed by a 15% decrease in energy transmission losses and by 20% improvement in response times in comparison to conventional models specified in the quantitative evaluation thus increasing operational efficiency by far. These efficiencies not only reduce operating expenses and power consumption but also increase the solution's scalability, pointing out the possibility of building the solution for bigger urban microgrid implementations. In consideration of that, the suggested mechanism with 5G NR Sidelink along with MQTT overcomes elaborate barriers of IoT-based microgrids and establishes a new potency in advanced energy management in smart cities which could make the distribution network in the urban areas on the edge of the verge of a change.

The biomedical applications of nanoparticles are growing in recent years. The uses range from diagnostic to therapeutic purposes, and researchers are constantly introducing new ways. Biosensors, miniaturization techniques, surface enhancement in implantable biomaterials, and better nanofibers in medical textiles are some of the contributions of biomedical nanotechnology. Therapeutic (medical) imaging successfully maps the anatomy of the human body. Image enhancement, analysis, categorization, and image based representation are all possible areas of computer processing and analysis of medical images. Therapeutic image understanding uses computer vision, applied mathematics, signal analysis, and artificial intelligence to recognise objects in medical images. Image processing is the use of computer algorithms to manipulate digital images. Hand-held transducers emit and receive pulsed acoustic waves for medical ultrasound imaging. In this study, a computer-aided diagnosis method is developed to help cytotechnicians locate and classify aberrant cells in cervical cytology images. With the outcomes of morphological and statistical edge based segmentation are compared to traditional segmentation techniques. The proposed segmentation methodology outperforms the other methods. This proposed technique's segmentation accuracy is 98%. © 2022 IEEE.

Suicide is a critical global issue that demands a comprehensive examination of factors such as mental illness, substance abuse, financial stress, and trauma. Effectively identifying individuals at risk is vital for intervention and prevention efforts. However, distinguishing suicidal ideation (SID) from non-suicidal language poses challenges. Existing research has addressed this issue, but limited attention has been given to visually interpretable and interactive systems tailored for SID. This study contributes to responsible AI by leveraging deep learning and machine learning techniques to enhance SID detection, enabling proactive interventions and support. In this paper, we introduce SIDVis, an interactive visualization system that improves performance and interpretability at the same time. The rigorous evaluation demonstrates that SIDVis not only outperforms existing methods in terms of accuracy but also provides an explanation for the responsible use of the underlying AI approach, demonstrating its potential to improve SID detection and intervention strategies.

Breast cancer poses a significant threat to women's health, being a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among female population. In recent years, machine learning has emerged as a promising approach in medical field, particularly in detection and classification tasks. However, existing algorithms often exhibit suboptimal accuracy, necessitating improved methodologies. This research presents a novel approach using a Modified Support Vector Machine (MSVM) for breast cancer classification into benign and malignant categories. Leveraging the Wisconsin Breast Cancer dataset (WBCD), preprocessing techniques are applied to enhance data quality. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) reduces dimensionality, while linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) extracts discriminative features crucial for classification. The proposed MSVM classifier achieves exceptional performance, with a classification accuracy of 99.42%, outperforming other existing methods such as Deep Convolutional Neural Networks and Fuzzy Rule-based Systems. These results highlight the efficacy of the MSVM approach in accurately distinguishing between benign and malignant breast cancer cases, showcasing its potential as a reliable tool for medical image analysis and cancer diagnosis.

Variable selection for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) has been a major research focus for decades. With the exponential growth of biological and biomedical data in the era of big data, scientists are confronted with the challenge of extracting meaningful information from vast datasets while managing the inherent heterogeneity in bioinformatics. To date, there are no highly effective tools that support high-dimensional datasets and achieve robust variable selection performance, all while accounting for the non-i.i.d. features and structured relatedness among explanatory and response *** address these challenges, we introduce the first high-performance computing framework for variable selection in GWAS. Our framework integrates various state-of-the-art methods, allowing researchers to easily combine different techniques and fully explore their potential. Additionally, our approach employs novel optimization strategies to solve the problem efficiently, even for high-dimensional data with sparse characteristics. By processing the data holistically, the framework delivers comprehensive analysis and accurate linkage mapping associations. Designed for ease of use, the framework is implemented in Python and offers seamless deployment, making it accessible to a wide range of researchers. © 2024 IEEE.

Semantic communication (SemCom) is an emerging technology that extracts useful meaning from data and sends only relevant semantic information. Thus, it has the great potential to improve the spectrum efficiency of conventional wireless systems with bit transmissions, especially in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and small bandwidth regions. However, the existing works have mostly overlooked the constraints of mobile devices, which may not have sufficient capabilities to implement resource-demanding semantic encoder/decoder based on deep learning. To address this issue, we propose in this paper a new semantic relay (SemRelay), which is equipped with a semantic receiver to assist multiuser text transmissions. Specifically, the SemRelay decodes semantic information from a base station and forwards it to the users using conventional bit transmission, hence effectively improving text transmission efficiency. To study the multiuser resource allocation, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the multiuser weighted sum-rate by jointly designing the SemRelay transmit power allocation and system bandwidth allocation. Although this problem is non-convex and hence challenging to solve, we propose an efficient algorithm to obtain its high-quality suboptimal solution by using the block coordinate descent method. Last, numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm as well as superior performance of the proposed SemRelay over the conventional decode-and-forward (DF) relay, especially in small bandwidth region.
