The advent of the Internet and portable devices, including smartphones and watches, has brought unprecedented opportunities for embedded application systems developments. Along with these developments, there is an increasing need for embedded devices to handle important services, such as the ability to pay bills or manage bank accounts remotely via mobile phones. Such applications and developments have also highlighted the issues of cyberattacks and computing network security - these developments have made mobile phones a potential target for malware, trojans, and viruses, so it is critical to design a set of security technologies for embedded devices. In fact, security has become an essential requirement in the process of embedded system design. Thus, ARM has proposed system-level security solutions based on TrustZone technology. TrustZone technology is tightly integrated with Cortex™-A processors and extends the system through the AMBA® AXI bus and specific TrustZone system IP blocks to protect peripherals such as secure memory, encryption blocks, keyboards, and screens from software attacks. It divides the system into TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) and REE (Rich Execution Environment) by hardware and provides intrinsic software security services and interfaces. More precisely, it has built system security by combining hardware and software. It is worth noting that it does not influence performance, power consumption, and area as much as possible. Owing to such characteristics, the technology has gained the wide attention of researchers worldwide. There is lack of systematic documentation of the technology. Therefore, this paper documents the significant progress achieved in the field. In particular, this article mainly analyses the primary mechanism implementation, and how to build the Trusted Execution Environment in different environments. In this paper, the optimization of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) localization under jamming attacks is studied. In the considered network, a base station (BS) collaborates with an active UAV to localize a target UAV. During this positioning process, a jamming UAV transmits discontinuous signals to passive UAVs to interfere the distance information measurement. To localize the target UAV under jamming attacks, the BS jointly use two localization methods: 1) generative adversarial network (GAN)-based positioning method and 2) time difference of arrival (TDOA)-based positioning method. Since GAN-based positioning method cannot defense in a strong jamming signal while TDOA-based positioning method may consume more energy and sacrifice localization accuracy, the BS must select an appropriate positioning method (GAN-based or TDOA-based methods) and four distance measurement information of passive UAVs to estimate the position of the target UAV. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize the positioning error between the estimated and the ground truth positions of the target UAV while considering jamming attacks and the trajectory of passive UAVs. To solve this problem, we propose a mixture Gaussian distribution model-based collaborative reinforcement learning (RL) method which enables the active UAV to determine its transmit power and trajectory, and enables the BS to select the most appropriate subsets of distance measurement information and the optimal positioning method according to the movement of passive UAVs and the unknown jamming attack pattern of the jamming UAV. Simulation results show the proposed method can reduce the positioning error of the target UAV by up to 36.5% compared to the method that does not consider the GAN-based positioning method.

RNTrajRec: Road Network Enhanced Trajectory Recovery with Spatial-Temporal Transformer

GPS trajectories are the essential foundations for many trajectory-based applications, such as travel time estimation, traffic prediction and trajectory similarity measurement. Most applications require a large number of high sample rate trajectories to achieve a good performance. However, many real-life trajectories are collected with low sample rate due to energy concern or other constraints. We study the task of trajectory recovery in this paper as a means to increase the sample rate of low sample trajectories. Currently, most existing works on trajectory recovery follow a sequence-to-sequence diagram, with an encoder to encode a trajectory and a decoder to recover real GPS points in the trajectory. However, these works ignore the topology of road network and only use grid information or raw GPS points as input. Therefore, the encoder model is not able to capture rich spatial information of the GPS points along the trajectory, making the prediction less accurate and lower spatial consistent. In this paper, we propose a road network enhanced transformer-based framework, namely RNTrajRec, for trajectory recovery. RNTrajRec first uses a graph model, namely GridGNN, to learn the embedding features of each road segment. It next develops a spatial-temporal transformer model, namely GPSFormer, to learn rich spatial and temporal features along with a Sub-Graph Generation module to capture the spatial features for each GPS point in the trajectory. It finally forwards the outputs of encoder model to a multi-task decoder model to recover the missing GPS points. Extensive experiments based on three large-scale real-life trajectory datasets confirm the effectiveness of our approach. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The growing occurrence of cybersecurity hazards, such as Android zero-day vulnerabilities, poses substantial difficulties because they are unattended and imperceptible. With the increasing popularity of Android smartphones, hackers are taking advantage of these weaknesses to quickly spread advanced malware. Conventional detection approaches frequently prove inadequate due to the absence of shown criteria for emergent threats. In order to address this crucial problem, this article presents the Zero-Vuln method, an advanced technique specifically developed to identify and categorize previously unidentified malware on Android platforms. Zero-Vuln combines sophisticated supervised deep learning methods with zero-shot learning algorithms to accurately detect zero-day threats. Through the utilization of comprehensive datasets, the method attains an average classification metric score of 84.22%, showcasing exceptional accuracy, precision, and recall. This advanced solution significantly improves the ability to identify and handle Android zero-day threats, representing a major progress in cybersecurity research and implementation. The Zero-Vuln strategy provides a strong and adaptable solution for the constantly changing mobile security risks, representing a notable advancement in the sector.

High-fidelity kinship face synthesis has many potential applications, such as kinship verification, missing child identification, and social media analysis. However, it is challenging to synthesize high-quality descendant faces with genetic relations due to the lack of large-scale, high-quality annotated kinship data. This paper proposes RFG (Region-level Facial Gene) extraction framework to address this issue. We propose to use IGE (Image-based Gene Encoder), LGE (Latent-based Gene Encoder) and Gene Decoder to learn the RFGs of a given face image, and the relationships between RFGs and the latent space of Style-GAN2. As cycle-like losses are designed to measure the $\mathcal{L}_{2}$ distances between the output of Gene Decoder and image encoder, and that between the output of LGE and IGE, only face images are required to train our framework, i.e. no paired kinship face data is required. Based upon the proposed RFGs, a crossover and mutation module is further designed to inherit the facial parts of parents. A Gene Pool has also been used to introduce the variations into the mutation of RFGs. The diversity of the faces of descendants can thus be significantly increased. Qualitative, quantitative, and subjective experiments on FIW, TSKinFace, and FF-databases clearly show that the quality and diversity of kinship faces generated by our approach are much better than the existing state-of-the-art methods.

In longitudinal medical image analysis, most work focuses on regularly sampled images, or on tasks like regression or classification. However, in the clinical context, images are frequently generated irregularly due to factors such as cost constraints. This work tackles the problem of irregularly sampled longitudinal medical imaging by evaluating methods in segmentation and reconstruction tasks. We examine the reconstruction for real-life MRI from patients with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), where the model predicts future MRI scans from an arbitrary number of input images sampled at irregular intervals. However, experiments show that most models cannot surpass the performance of using an image from the same patient at a different time point as a baseline. Therefore, we conducted experiments on a synthetic dataset to better isolate effects in temporal learning. These experiments offer insights into model behavior and serve as a benchmark for validating models’ longitudinal learning capability, thus providing a straightforward method to assess temporal understanding in a controlled environment. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Metaverse is the next generation and the successor to the Internet. Various sectors allocated capital to adapt the metaverse due to its inherent importance. Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) is one of the important sectors that can benefit from metaverse adaptation and integration. The C-ITS and metaverse integration give rise to new use cases and cyber attacks. However, traditional Pseudonym Certificate (PCert) authentication based on Vehicular Public Key Infrastructure (VPKI) cannot meet the new use cases and thwart cyber attacks. We present a Differential Privacy (DP)-based PCert and avatar update model to ensure the privacy of end-devices (e.g., vehicles) in the C-ITS metaverse. The proposed DP-based model adds noise to avatar attributes (e.g., color, behavior) to prevent avatar linkage during the PCert update process. Our method ensures that PCerts and avatars cannot be linked to end-devices and the previous PCerts and avatars. We simulate the DP-based method to investigate it in terms of privacy, latency, color distortion, and adversarial success rate, and the results show that DP-based is effective and practical for avatar updates.

Text Simplification (TS) is one of the directions for recent studies in NLP. The TS aims to rewrite the complicated text into a simpler sentence, which is easier to understand by human and machine. Several applications such as the development of the Simple Wikipedia corpus are derived from those studies. The studies involve a different technique in order to achieve the objective of TS in terms of structure and the meaning of human language. In this paper, we used narrative review as review methodology and highlighted the purpose of TS, TS-user, TS approaches and techniques, datasets, evaluation metrics as well as challenges in formalizing TS in Malay corpus. Promising results are expected for TS in Malay corpus. © 2021 IEEE.

The blind quantum computation (BQC) protocol allows for privacy-preserving remote quantum computations. In this paper, we introduce a remote quantum error correction code preparation protocol for BQC using a cluster state and analyze its blindness in the measurement-based quantum computation model. Our protocol requires fewer quantum resources than previous methods, as it only needs weak coherent pulses, eliminating the need for quantum memory and limited quantum computing. The results of our theoretical analysis and simulations show that our protocol requires fewer quantum resources compared to non-coding methods with the same qubit error rate. © 2023, CC BY.
