Sonar images are susceptible to noise pollution and the image intensities are often inhomogeneous. So there are many difficulties in sonar image segmentation. When apply the current popular region-based active contour models to sonar image segmentation, the objects we interested may be segmented inaccurately sometimes, especially for the image with shadows. To solve the problem, a simple algorithm was proposed in this paper. Firstly we analyzed the initial contour action in level set evolution, and then combined with a strict local binary fitting energy we segmented sonar images selectively by changing the initial contour. Computer experiment results show that our method is very suitable for sonar image segmentation. Target regions with weak border can be obtained perfectly. And for the sonar image with shadows, interested objects and the shadows could be distinguished separately, avoiding the boundary leaking problems caused by the shadows' existing.

For improving accuracy of optical flow computation, we propose a new method to compute optical flow from both gray and color information. First, the Gauss filter is used to pre-filter the color image sequence. Then optical flow recovery is based on the method of neighborhood least squares using brightness information. And the weight coefficients of local neighborhood are determined by U and V channels in LUV color space. Finally, the optical flow result is filtered by median filter. The experiment results show that the proposed method produces dense optical flow field and accuracy of the results can also be improved.

Ground water level measurements are very important for a wide range of applications in geosciences, agriculture, environment monitoring and mining industry. Currently, reliable and automatic ground water level measurements have not been realized. This paper presents the simulation and design of a segmented resistance sensor for measuring ground water level. Based on this sensor design, we have developed an instrument that can automatically log the ground water level. Finite element simulations were performed to optimize the sensor design and to gain insight into its response. Experimental results in the lab and field have verified the usefulness of the sensor.

Recently, in the smartcard-based authentication system, there is an increasing trend of using fingerprint for the card holder verification, instead of passwords. However, the security of the fingerprint data is particularly important as the possible compromise of the data will be permanent. To protect the fingerprint data, techniques such as "fuzzy vault" which is based on the difficulty of the polynomial reconstruction need to be developed for the smartcard-based environment. In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient approach which reconstructs a polynomial on a smartcard with the aid of a server by using fuzzy fingerprint vault distributed into the smartcard and the server. Based on the experimental results, we confirmed that our secret sharingbased approach can perform the fuzzy vault-based fingerprint verification more securely (by a factor of'300) and quickly (by a factor of 17) on a combination of a smartcard and a server.

Wireless body sensor network is employed into the coal mine rescue system. We present a multi-objective optimization methodology for self-organizing, adaptive wireless sensor network design and energy management, taking into consideration application-specific requirements, communication constraints and energy-conservation characteristics. We use genetic algorithm as the optimization tool. Simulation results show that this method can optimize the power management obviously to improve the network load balance, without lacking of network characteristics that are required by the coal mine rescue system.

In order to enlarge the measurement range of stereo vision measurement system and realize the accurate measurement for large-scale workpiece, a 3-D connection method is proposed based on control net. The method constructs the measurementcontrol net based on unit quaternions with the assistant measurementcontrol points that are set around the measured workpiece, and optimizes the measurement precise of control net with Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) optimal algorithm. Then it transforms the measurement data in the local coordinate systems of different measurement places to the global space coordinate system, obtains the global measurement data and realizes the 3D connection of the measurement data. The experiment results show that the proposed method can enlarge the measurement scope, and raise the measurement precision for large-scale workpiece.

A new motion model and estimation algorithm is proposed to compute the general rigid motion object's 6-DOF motion parameters and center of rotation based on stereo vision. The object's 6-DOF motion model is designed from the rigid object's motion character under the two defined reference frames. According to the rigid object's motion model and motion dynamics knowledge, the corresponding motion algorithm to compute the 6-DOF motion parameters is worked out. By the rigid object pure rotation motion model and space sphere geometry knowledge, the center of rotation may be calculated after eliminating the translation motion out of the 6-DOF motion. The motion equations are educed based on the motion model and the closed-form solutions are figured out. To heighten the motion estimation algorithm's robust, RANSAC algorithm is applied to delete the outliers. Simulation and real experiments are conducted and the experiment results are analyzed. The results prove the motion model's correction and algorithm's validity.
