This paper provides a classification of perceptual issues in augmented reality, created with a visual processing and interpretation pipeline in mind. We organize issues into ones related to the environment, capturing, augmentation, display, and individual user differences. We also illuminate issues associated with more recent platforms such as handhelds or projector-camera systems. Throughout, we describe current approaches to addressing these problems, and suggest directions for future research.

This paper presents a new scan-based BIST schemewhich achieves very high fault coverage without the deficienciesof previously proposed schemes. This approach utilizes scan orderand polarity in scan synthesis, effectively converting the scanchain into a ROM capable of storing some "center" patterns fromwhich the other vectors are derived by randomly complementingsome of their coordinates. Experimental results demonstrate that avery high fault coverage can be obtained without any modificationof the mission logic, no test data to store and very simple BISThardware which does not depend on the size of the circuit.

To create a 3D rendering of an amputee's residual limb for a computer-Aided Socket Design software, the image data must be accurately segmented to extract the significant fit points for the limb. This paper reports on the use of a Bayesian segmentation approach created to be robust enough for speckle-laden or noisy images on relatively noise-free ultrasound images of a residual limb. The authors wanted to see if the algorithm would be able to produce a segmented image with improved detail given that the original image was free of noise. The algorithm provides a multi-resolution segmentation using the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) densities based on modeling the a priori probability distribution with a Gibbs random field (GRF). The authors summarize the segmentation process which consists mainly of a filter-and-decimate procedure and an adaptive clustering algorithm. Their results on low noise ultrasound data indicate that the Bayesian approach does not improve noticeably better segmentation of detail in the image data.

The difficulties to analyse the state space of a special class of nonlinear electronic circuits are illustrated and a new method to treat these problems is presented. Theoretical aspects of circuit equations from a differential geometric point of view are considered and methods for solving circuit equations by means of algorithms from computational differential geometry are presented. In this paper differential geometric methods were applied to a relaxation oscillator and numerical results were achieved. We describe the behaviour of an emitter-coupled multivibrator with differential algebraic equations and compute its state space numerically.

A description method for arbitrary two dimensional shapes is proposed in this paper. When a 2D shape is given as a silhouette, its structure is automatically approximated by the use of a set of rectangles by the proposed method. Sizes, positions and rotational angles of the rectangles which approximate adequately the given 2D shape are searched by a genetic algorithm; GA. In our coding of GA, a chromosome of each individual is a bit string corresponding to parameter sets of several rectangles. Through a generation iteration, accuracy of approximation of the given 2D shape is improved. The total number of rectangles to be used for description is assumed to be given before shape description. By changing the total number of rectangles, hierarchical description of given 2D shapes is achieved. This method can be applied to shape description and object recognition in the field of computer vision and to abstraction of 2D shapes in the field of artistic applications by the use of computers.

This approach utilizes scan order and polarity in scan synthesis, effectively converting the scanchain into a ROM capable of storing some "center" patterns from which the other vectors are derived by randomly complementing some of their coordinates.
