Face recognition (FR) algorithms have been proven to exhibit discriminatory behaviors against certain demographic and non-demographic groups, raising ethical and legal concerns regarding their deployment in real-world scenarios. Despite the growing number of fairness studies in FR, the fairness of face presentation attack detection (PAD) has been overlooked, mainly due to the lack of appropriately annotated data. To avoid and mitigate the potential negative impact of such behavior, it is essential to assess the fairness in face PAD and develop fair PAD models. To enable fairness analysis in face PAD, we present a Combined Attribute Annotated PAD Dataset (CAAD-PAD), offering seven human-annotated attribute labels. Then, we comprehensively analyze the fairness of PAD and its relation to the nature of the training data and the Operational Decision Threshold Assignment (ODTA) through a set of face PAD solutions. Additionally, we propose a novel metric, the Accuracy Balanced Fairness (ABF), that jointly represents both the PAD fairness and the absolute PAD performance. The experimental results pointed out that female and faces with occluding features (e.g. eyeglasses, beard, etc.) are relatively less protected than male and non-occlusion groups by all PAD solutions. To alleviate this observed unfairness, we propose a plug-and-play data augmentation method, FairSWAP, to disrupt the identity/semantic information and encourage models to mine the attack clues. The extensive experimental results indicate that FairSWAP leads to better-performing and fairer face PADs in 10 out of 12 investigated cases. CAAD-PAD is publicly available 1 © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

The rapid growth of urban areas, population, and pollution presents a significant environmental challenge. Addressing these challenges requires innovative analytical approaches and data sources. This study focuses on the three-scale phenomena of the environmental system, physical environment, and regional surroundings, considering their implications on a global network scale. Remote sensing data, with its easy accessibility, offers new toolkits and methods to improve the global environment. It provides self-consistent measurements of vital physical attributes and surpasses traditional data sources regarding accuracy, efficiency, and coverage of larger geographical areas. This study aims to identify and analyze appropriate satellite image analysis tools for healthcare. The study objectives include studying available tools, analyzing their features, categorizing tools into open-source and commercial categories, and providing recommendations. This study emphasizes feature extraction and image enhancement parameters, which are crucial for image analysis. This paper proposes an ecological adaptive cruise control (EACC) strategy to minimize the energy consumption of an electric vehicle using two linear model predictive controllers (MPCs). In the absence of a preceding vehicle, the first MPC uses the upcoming traffic light signal phase and timing (SPaT) information to track an optimal green-wave velocity to reach the next traffic light signal during green phase. For the preceding vehicle in range scenario, the second MPC follows the leading vehicle by maintaining a desired inter-vehicle distance and strictly adheres to road speed limits. If the upcoming traffic light signal phase is changing to red, the controller uses the SPaT information to plan an energy-efficient stop near the traffic light signal. To evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy, both controllers are tested in a realistic scenario against a baseline controller and furthermore their energy saving benefits are explored. Finally, investigations on computation time reveal that the proposed strategy is capable for online implementation.

This paper proposes an ecological adaptive cruise control (EACC) concept with the primary goal to minimize the fuel consumption in a city bus with an internal combustion engine (ICE). A hybrid model predictive control (HMPC) is implemented in this work to control both continuous and discrete-time variables. Moreover, a multi-objective optimization problem for EACC is formulated in time-domain as a mixed-integer quadratically constrained quadratic programming (MIQCQP) problem. The proposed HMPC-EACC performs robust vehicle-following while tracking a leading vehicle and plans fuel-efficient acceleration and deceleration maneuvers for the host vehicle. Additionally, it uses the signal phase and timing (SPaT) information to compute a green wave reference speed for the host vehicle to cross the signalized intersections at a green phase. Moreover, the proposed controller performs pulse and glide (PnG) to optimally control the engine ON and OFF states and save additional fuel. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed strategy is evaluated on a real-world driving profile and compared against a baseline controller from the literature. Finally, the influence of different prediction horizons on the fuel savings and computation times are studied. The results reveal significant reduction in fuel consumption with HMPC-EACC and demonstrate that the proposed controller is real-time capable.

A robust image copy detection method based on feature extraction algorithm

Detecting copied versions of a query image is very important for copyright protection. This paper presents a robust copy detection method for images. The main contribution of our algorithm is to combine the image feature extraction and the saliency image segmentation methods, and a novel two steps approach is proposed for the image copy detection. Firstly, several salient regions in a query image are extracted based on salient region detection method and segmented into a series of partial images, with introduction of illumination variation to obtain a better saliency image. Secondly, surf key points in both partial images and images in database are extracted and the number of correctly matched key points is computed. Similarity value is computed to judge if two key points are correctly matched. Finally, if the number of correctly-matched key points is greater than the threshold value, the image from database is judged as a copy of the query image. The experimental results show that the proposed method can detect copyright information of query image even when the image is cropped, rotated, put in picture, water-colored, changed in contrast, blurred or inserted with words. © 2016, Ubiquitous International. Creation of procedural 3D building models can significantly lessen the costs of modeling, since it allows generating a variety of similar shapes from one procedural description. The common field of application for procedural modeling is modeling of straight building facades, which are very well suited for shape grammars – a special kind of procedural modeling system. In order to generate round building geometry, we present a way to setup different coordinate systems in shape grammars. Besides Cartesian, these are primarily cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems for generation of structures like towers or domes, that can procedurally adapt to different dimensions and parameters. The users can apply common splitting idioms from shape grammars in their familiar way, for creating round instead of straight geometry.

Despite strong interest in cloth simulation on the one hand and tracking of deformable objects on the other, little effort has been put into tracking cloth motion by modelling the fabric. Here, an analysis-by-synthesis approach to tracking textiles is proposed which, by fitting a simulated textile to a set of contours, is able to reconstruct the 3D-cloth configuration. Fitting is accomplished by optimising the parameters of the mass-spring model that is used to simulate the textile as well as the positions of a limited number of constrained points. To improve tracking accuracy and to overcome the inherently chaotic behaviour of the real fabric several techniques for tracking features on the cloth's surface and the best way for them to influence the simulation are evaluated.

Electrolysis is crucial for eco-friendly hydrogen production, but gas bubbles generated during the process hinder reactions, reduce cell efficiency, and increase energy consumption. Additionally, these gas bubbles cause changes in the conductivity inside the cell, resulting in corresponding variations in the induced magnetic field around the cell. Therefore, measuring these gas bubble-induced magnetic field fluctuations using external magnetic sensors and solving the inverse problem of Biot-Savart’s Law allows for estimating the conductivity in the cell and, thus, bubble size and location. However, determining high-resolution conductivity maps from only a few induced magnetic field measurements is an ill-posed inverse problem. To overcome this, we exploit Invertible Neural Networks (INNs) to reconstruct the conductivity field. Our qualitative results and quantitative evaluation using random error diffusion show that INN achieves far superior performance compared to Tikhonov regularization. © 2023, CC BY.

Modeling energy-minimizing curves have many applications and are a basic problem of Geometric *** this paper,we propose the method for geometric design of energy-minimizing B′ezier ***,the necessary and sufficient condition on the control points for B′ezier curves to have minimal internal energy is *** on this condition,we propose the geometric constructions of three kinds of B′ezier curves with minimal internal energy including stretch energy,strain energy and jerk *** some control points,the other control points can be determined as the linear combination of the given control *** compare the three kinds of energy-minimizing B′ezier curves via curvature combs and curvature plots,and present the collinear properties of quartic energy-minimizing B′ezier *** also compare the proposed method with previous methods on efficiency and ***,several applications of the curve generation technique,such as curve interpolation with geometric constraints and modeling of circle-like curves are discussed.
