Adaptive feature selection and extraction approaches for image retrieval based on region

Image retrieval based on region is one of the most promising and active research directions in recent year's CBIR, while region segmentation, feature selection and feature extraction of region are key issues. However, the existing approaches always adopt a uniform approach of segmentation and feature extraction for all images in the same system. In this paper, we propose adaptive image segmentation and feature extraction approach according to different category image for image retrieval system. To improve performance, we propose adaptive segmentation approach according to different category image. Textured image is segmented by Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM), while non-textured image is segmented by our proposed block-based normalized cut. To accurately describe feature of region, we propose weight assignment method for centroid pixel and its neighbor by convolution with normal distribution when image segmentation by GMM. To improve generalization, we propose adaptive number of Fourier descriptors of shape signature which depends on the energy distribution of Fourier descriptors, instead of fixed number by experience. To simply and efficiently describe the spatial relationships of multi-object or multi-region in same image, we apply simplified topological relationships. The experiments demonstrate that proposed approaches are superior to the traditional approaches. © 2010 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.

The specification of authorization policies in access control models proposed so far cannot satisfy the requirements in workflow management systems(WFMSs).Furthermore,existing approaches have not provided effective conflict detection and resolution methods to maintain the consistency of authorization polices in *** address these concerns,we propose the definition of authorization policies in which context constraints are considered and the complicated requirements in WFMSs can be *** on the definition,we put forward static and dynamic conflict detection methods for authorization *** defining two new concepts,the precedence establishment rule and the conflict resolution policy,we provide a flexible approach to resolving conflicts.

In this paper we present a new cross-platform approach for video game delivery in wired and wireless local networks. The developed 3D streaming and video streaming approaches enable users to access video games on set top boxes and handheld devices that natively are not capable to run PC games. During the development of the distributed gaming system we have faced a number of challenges and problems posed by the hardware and network limitations. In order to solve these problems we have developed a multilevel testing methodology which is based on user assessment and technical measures for the system under development. In this paper we focus on the technical measures and instrumentation that we use for the system's performance measurement and testing. The benefits of our testing methodology are demonstrated through examples from the development and testing work.

Amongst all atmospheric phenomena, rain is probably the most commonly used effect to create realistic immersive virtual environments, and to set the mood in movie storytelling. Although not immediately obvious, the beauty of rain emanates from the interplay of the involved light-matter interaction, generating effects of refraction and reflection, coupled with scattering effects. At the core, rain consists of water droplets under the influence of gravity. Current state of the art methods of generating rain are either computationally burdening, or not realistic enough. The key idea we introduce in this paper is to consider these droplets as transparent objects in the environment matting (EM) framework. This enables careful preprocessing to discover the light transport phenomena. We end up with a free-viewpoint real-time technique of simulating realistic droplets and rain in novel environments.

This paper presents a novel object-space line drawing algorithm that can depict shape with view dependent feature lines in real-time. Strongly inspired by the Laplacian-of-Gaussian (LoG) edge detector in image processing, we define Laplacian Lines as the zero-crossing points of the Laplacian of the surface illumination. Compared to other view dependent features, Laplacian lines are computationally efficient because most expensive computations can be pre-processed. Thus, Laplacian lines are very promising for interactively illustrating large-scale models. Copyright © 2009 by the Association for Computing Machinery, Inc.

The 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge afforded the golden opportunity for the Technische Universität Braunschweig to demonstrate its abilities to develop an autonomously driving vehicle to compete with the world's best competitors. After several stages of qualification, our team CarOLO qualified early for the DARPA Urban Challenge Final Event and was among only eleven teams from initially 89 competitors to compete in the final. We had the ability to work together in a large group of experts, each contributing his expertise in his discipline, and significant organisational, financial and technical support by local sponsors who helped us to become the best non-US team. In this report, we describe the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge, our contribution "Caroline", the technology and algorithms along with her performance in the DARPA Urban Challenge Final Event on November 3, 2007. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Considering the watermark as a noise, a watermark extraction model is proposed in this paper to enhance the correlation of Digimarc plug-ins in photoshop. First, an estimation of the original image for a watermarked image is obtained by TV (total variation) denoising model based on the partial differential equation. Second, watermark noise information is obtained by subtraction between the watermarked image and the estimated one. Finally, the correlation of watermark can be improved by magnifying the watermark noise. The experimental results show that the new watermark extraction model can enhance the correlation of the Digimarc plug-ins although its watermarking method is unknown.

This paper presents a semiautomatic method for the identification of immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in digitized samples. The user trains the system by selecting on a sample image some typical positive stained regions that will be used as a reference for the construction of a distance metric. In this learning process, the global optimum is obtained by induction employing higher polynomial terms of the Mahalanobis distance, extracting nonlinear features of the IHC pattern distributions. The results of the proposed method showed a high correlation to a pathologist's manual analysis, which was used as a golden standard, presenting a more robust discrimination between stained and non-stained areas with little bias. © 2009 IEEE.

Accurate techniques for simulating soft biological tissue deformation are an increasingly valuable tool in many areas of biomechanical analysis and medical image computing. To model the morphology and the material response of human articular cartilage a phenomenological and patient-specific simulation approach incorporating the collagen fibre fabric is proposed. We then demonstrate a unique combination of ultra-high field Diffusion Tensor Magnetic Resonance Imaging (17.6T DT-MRI) and a novel numerical approach incorporating the empirical data to predict the collagen fibre fabric deformation for an indentation experiment. © 2009 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Using the continuity property of neuron state variables and Lyapunov functional, this paper religiously gives sufficient conditions ensuring the equilibrium number, local stable state number, global stability and complete stability of the Hopfield neural networks with multi-level activation functions. Compared with the known relevant literatures, the obtained results are more precise. Finally, three examples are employed to illustrate the obtained criteria. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.
