An automated speech analysis system for the detection of cognitive decline in elderly

The goal of this study is to develop and test an automated integrated speech analysis system for detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia in spontaneous free speech. During the years 2010–2016, speech recordings (N = 2800) were obtained from 200 Greek Cypriots over the age of 65. Developing natural speech recognition and speech synthesis systems requires speech data that authentically represents real emotions. However, this type of data is often challenging to obtain. Machine speech chain offers a solution to this challenge by using unpaired data to continue training models initially trained with paired data. Given the relative abundance of unpaired data compared to paired data, machine speech chain can be instrumental in recognizing emotions in speech where training data is limited. This study investigates the application of machine speech chain in speech emotion recognition and speech recognition of emotional speech. Our findings indicate that a model trained with 50% paired neutral emotion speech data and 22% paired non-neutral emotional speech data shows a reduction in Character Error Rate (CER) from 37.55% to 34.52% when further trained with unpaired neutral emotion speech data. The CER further decreases to 33.75% when additionally trained with combined unpaired speech data. The accuracy of recognizing non-neutral emotions ranged from 2.18% to 53.51 %, though the F1 score fluctuated, increasing by up to 20.6% and decreasing by up to 23.4%. These results suggest that the model demonstrates a bias towards the majority class, as reflected by the values of the two metrics. © 2024 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving digital music landscape, identifying similarities between musical pieces is essential to help musicians avoid unintended copyright infringement and maintain the originality of their work. However, detecting such similarities remains a complex and computationally challenging problem. A novel approach to address this issue is a song similarity detection system that utilizes a Siamese Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with Triplet Loss for effective audio input comparison. The model is trained on a custom dataset from WhoSampled, an extensive database of information on sampled music, cover songs, and remixes. The dataset comprises pairs of audio samples and interpolations, making it suitable for the Siamese CNN approach. Incorporating Triplet Loss enhances the model's performance by learning discriminative features for improved comparison. The performance of this system is assessed using a confidence interval-based metric, achieving a 96.86% accuracy at a 99.7% confidence level in determining the similarity between music samples. The solution provides a helpful tool for musicians to actively compare their creations with existing songs, helping to reduce the likelihood of unintentional plagiarism and possible legal issues. © 2023 IEEE.

As in the existing opinion summary data set, more than 70% are positive texts, the current opinion summarization approaches are reluctant to generate the negative opinion summary given the input of negative opinions. To address such sentiment bias, two approaches are proposed through two perspectives: model-specific and model-agnostic. For the model-specific approach, a variational autoencoder is proposed to disentangle the input representation into sentiment-relevant and sentiment-irrelevant components through adversarial loss. Therefore, the sentiment information in the input is kept and employed for the following decoding which avoids interference of content information with emotional signals. To further avoid relying on some specific opinion summarization frameworks, a model-agnostic approach based on counterfactual data augmentation is proposed. A dataset with a more balanced emotional polarity distribution is constructed using a large pre-trained language model based on some pairwise and mini-edited principles. Experimental results show that the sentiment consistency of the generated summaries is significantly improved using the proposed approaches, while their semantics quality is unaffected. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

Emotion recognition in text has become an essential research area within artificial intelligence and natural language processing due to its applications in sentiment analysis, human-computer interaction, and social media analysis. This paper introduces an approach for emotion recognition in social networks using transformer models enhanced with explainability techniques. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of transformers to analyze and classify emotions in written content, our finetuned models achieves high accuracy in identifying emotions according to the Ekman emotional model. The integration of LIME and SHAP provides transparency and interpretability to our model, making it more trustworthy for practical applications. Our findings indicate that models like XLNET report an exceptional performance in emotion recognition tasks. The explainability techniques illustrate the transformer model decision-making processes and the way that they utilize words and their continual information in sentences.

This Bicopter is an unmanned aircraft with two brushless motor drive systems connected to propellers in a horizontal parallel position. The problem that often occurs in bicopters is stability or flight balance. When the vehicle cannot control or maintain its balance angle, it is most likely that the bicopter vehicle will fall while flying. Thus, a research design is carried out that can develop and overcome problems in Bicopter stability through PID Control Implementation as a One Axis Balancing Control System on the Bicopter Vehicle. This study aims to find out how to apply the PID control system as a balance controller on the bicopter and to see the results of the dynamic response generated by the PID control system using testing methods using different load weights and load positions. The research results show that the prototype of the bicopter vehicle with PID controller has been successfully made and can work well in carrying out balance control. By providing a value of Kp = 2.4329, Ki = 0.000821, Kd = 603.98901, and a Throttle of 1600 rpm, it produces a dynamic response in the form of the smallest Steady State Error value of 0.16 and the largest value of 9.29, the smallest Rise Time is 0.22s and the largest is 1.92s, The biggest overshoot is 6.68 and the smallest is -0.17. The biggest settling time is 3.36s, and the smallest is 0.92s © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet has become an essential tool for people in the modern world. Humans, like all living organisms, have essential requirements for survival. These include access to atmospheric oxygen, potable water, protective shelter, and sustenance. The constant flux of the world is making our existence less complicated. A significant portion of the population utilizes online food ordering services to have meals delivered to their residences. Although there are numerous methods for ordering food, customers sometimes experience disappointment with the food they receive. Our endeavor was to establish a model that could determine if food is of good or poor quality. We compiled an extensive dataset of over 1484 online reviews from prominent food ordering platforms, including Food Panda and HungryNaki. Leveraging the collected data, a rigorous assessment of various deep learning and machine learning techniques was performed to determine the most accurate approach for predicting food quality. Out of all the algorithms evaluated, logistic regression emerged as the most accurate, achieving an impressive 90.91% accuracy. The review offers valuable insights that will guide the user in deciding whether or not to order the food. © 2024 IEEE.

It is necessary to collect data measured in open lands, whether for example for monitoring purposes or for border protection. The process of data transmission from active nodes and its next level to the cluster head (CH), followed by follow-up to arrive at the base station (BS), with safety and acceptability, are the main objectives of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The key benefits of wireless systems are low-cost system installation and loss-free data transfer. Weather conditions in the spacious area affect wireless data transmission that is done between sensor nodes in free space. This study attempted to ascertain the influence of atmospheric and meteorological conditions on the loss of data when utilizing the wireless data transmission systems in a wireless sensor network. For this reason, the volume of data transfer losses that happen in free space because of three types of weather conditions is the main discussion point. The meteorological criteria that can be considered in this research are temperature, clear weather, dust, and rain as the weather elements that affect the Iraqi climate. The correlation analysis's outcomes show that the amount of precipitation and the size of raindrops have a main effect on the losses of data transmission. From a practical point of view, there is no confirmed statistical evidence of the amount of loss in the volume of transmitted data as a result of the amount of rainfall with the use of different transmission frequencies. In this research, we designed an objective routing protocol called Fuzzy Clustering with Ant Colony System FCACS, which has been utilized as a simulation program using the MATLAB 2018b application. The practical results of the proposed protocol for data transmission in free space and under different weather conditions were examined, and the simulation results were compared with those of two well-known routing protocols, which are DEEC and Z-SEP. Multi-sensory experiences underpin embodiment, whether with the body itself or technological extensions of it. Vocalists experience intensely personal embodiment, as vocalisation has few outwardly visible effects and kinaesthetic sensations occur largely within the body, rather than through external touch. We explored this embodiment using a probe which sonified laryngeal muscular movements and provided novel auditory feedback to two vocalists over a month-long period. Somatic and micro-phenomenological approaches revealed that the vocalists understand their physiology through its sound, rather than awareness of the muscular actions themselves. The feedback shaped the vocalists' perceptions of their practice and revealed a desire for reassurance about exploration of one's body when the body-as-sound understanding was disrupted. Vocalists experienced uncertainty and doubt without affirmation of perceived correctness. This research also suggests that technology is viewed as infallible and highlights expectations that exist about its ability to dictate success, even when we desire or intend to explore. © 2023 ACM.
