Pilot vehicle interfaces on aircraft, similar to the automobile digital displays found in automobiles, are used to present the current status of various systems (e.g., navigation, engine information). Aircraft interfaces exhibit deterministic behavior due to safety concerns, ensuring that user input yields predictable outputs. Consequently, integrating text-based pattern recognition or artificial neural network based solutions to aircraft systems are challenging because of their deterministic nature. In this paper, an approach complementary to the existing user interface models is proposed. This approach is based on learning recurring user interactions during flight. It utilizes text-based pattern recognition and prediction models based on user interaction logs and sensor readings. Test results on sample data suggest that the proposed approach yields faster and context-aware user interaction model that decreases the time needed to perform tasks in the aircraft cockpit, where timing is crucial.

The new generation of 5G networks, compared to 4G networks, is a very important example of change in achieving very high frequencies in the carrier with huge bandwidth, high densities with a huge number of antennas and improved quality of services, making effective interference management necessary. In this paper, we present the contribution of the Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) scheme to improving the performance of 5G networks. We refer to the technique of sequential interference cancellation applied to some NOMA formats, compare NOMA and Orthogonal Multiple Access (OMA) formats in terms of the capabilities they offer users and NOMA's significant contribution to Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology and compare three basic NOMA formats in three different resource and user reporting scenarios. Finally, we present the results of the simulations of the above comparisons and analyze the contribution of each scheme to the improvement of the system performance. and copy;2021 IEEE. © 2021 IEEE computer Society. Exponential growth in digital information outlets and the race to publish has made scientific misinformation more prevalent than ever. However, the task to fact-verify a given scientific claim is not straightforward even for researchers. Scientific claim verification requires in-depth knowledge and great labor from domain experts to substantiate supporting and refuting evidence from credible scientific sources. The SciFact dataset and corresponding task provide a benchmarking leaderboard to the community to develop automatic scientific claim verification systems via extracting and assimilating relevant evidence rationales from source abstracts. In this work, we propose a modular approach that sequentially carries out binary classification for every prediction subtask as in the SciFact leaderboard. Our simple classifier-based approach uses reduced abstract representations to retrieve relevant abstracts. These are further used to train the relevant rationale-selection model. Finally, we carry out two-step stance predictions that first differentiate non-relevant rationales and then identify supporting or refuting rationales for a given claim. Experimentally, our system RerrFact with no fine-tuning, simple design, and a fraction of model parameters fairs competitively on the leaderboard against large-scale, modular, and joint modeling approaches. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is an important cash crop for animal and human consumption in many countries, especially Ethiopia due to its high protein content and high rate of production. It also improves soil fertility with the help of bacteria, which forms nodules on its roots. Ethiopia is the second largest faba bean producer;however, according to research, the yield is generally low. Among the constraints contributing to low productivity of the crop, disease is the most important. Even though there are countermeasures such as the use of chemical sprays, which is used to reduce the damage or eliminate the disease, an effective disease identification technique is still required. Chocolate spot, faba bean gal, and rust are the most common diseases of faba beans. To effectively detect the disease, in this paper, we propose an end-to-end CNN model for training before and after the dataset is preprocessed. The CNN end-to-end model is trained with raw images and achieves 92.1% training accuracy. Also, the model is trained with preprocessed data and it achieves a training accuracy of 98.14% for the end-to-end CNN classifier. The results show that the proposed approach is suitable for faba bean disease detection and can be employed to detect diseases of other crops. © 2023 IEEE.

Heart failure (HF) is a complex syndrome that is affected by many factors and causes. It is crucial to early recognize the disease subtypes and the unidentified clinical pathways that give rise to it. Machine learning (ML) is the tool that assist to deal with these challenges and improve the prediction of HF. In this work, the HF risk prediction was implemented by employed ML classifiers, such as Random Forest (RF), Extreme Grading Boosting (XGBoost) and Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LGBM). We utilized the data from the German epidemiological trial on ankle brachial index - getABI cohort, which includes 6,454 patients. The performance of classifiers was estimated by Accuracy (ACC), Sensitivity, Specificity and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) in mean values for each ML classifier. The results were also interpreted using the Explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) approach, the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values. Our work reveals that LGBM classifier predict the HF risk within 5 years follow-up in general population with 68 % accuracy. Moreover, the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) was identified as the most important feature for HF risk prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

Prediction of neutralization antibodies is important for the development of effective vaccines and antibody-based therapeutics. Traditional methods rely on features based on first principles derived from the binding interface. However, they are burdened by arduous data preprocessing from a limited quantity of protein structures. In comparison, deep learning allows automatic substructure characterization and representation without hand-crafted feature engineering. In particular, large language models (LLMs) based method predicts neutralization using Fv sequences of antibody and antigen. Despite LLM's success, incorporating full-length Fv sequences suffers from: 1) inaccurate sequence-level labels in existing datasets, 2) inefficient modeling due to noisy non-contributing motifs, and 3) ignorance of non-bonded interactions that play a key role in facilitating epitope-paratope pairing. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that incorporates only the paratope and epitope for antibody-antigen neutralization prediction while adopting a novel set modeling that regards the paratope and epitope as bags of residues. Specifically, we hand-crafted a dataset containing neutralizing paratope-epitope pairs where epitopes are potentially generalizable to future unseen variants of SARS-CoV-2. Training on such a dataset enables deep learning models to predict neutralizing antibodies for prospective mutated variants of SARS-CoV-2, meanwhile addressing the problem of inaccurate sequence-level labels. A higher modeling efficiency is also achieved by disregarding non-contributing motifs. Furthermore, we also propose paratope-epitope set interaction (PESI), a set modeling model inspired by first principles that learns intra-inter non-covalent interactions through a global attention mechanism. Active research into multi-tenancy means multitenant quantum computers could be soon. However, the growth of quantum computing introduces new security risks. One such risk is crosstalk error in multi-tenant superconducting quantum computers, which can be used to inject faults into other users' circuits. Concurrent works in the field have designed malware that exploits this vulnerability. This work demonstrates a malicious Deutsch-Jozsa malware that resists mitigation. This is created by designing a Deutsch-Jozsa circuit that contains a malicious payload. To analyze this malware, we assess both covertness and mitigation resilience. For covertness, we evaluated the impact on the integrity of the Deutsch-Jozsa circuit it hides in. Our findings show that the malware closely mimics the performance of an innocent Deutsch-Jozsa circuit at all optimization levels, which shows success in covertness. To assess mitigation resilience, we use Qiskit's circuit optimization. We found that our malware remains mostly unmitigated by optimization and almost doubles the victim error rate at the highest level of optimization offered by IBM. This shows that hiding a well-designed payload within a wrapping circuit does not reduce the malware's effectiveness, and it even performs better than the non-deceptive variant.

Stress, as a reaction to threatening situations, can raise heart rate and result in serious conditions that might cause significant damage or even be life-threatening. Traditional methods for evaluating stress, which rely on subjective self-reporting and clinical assessments, often suffer from biases and inconsistencies. Artificial intelligence models have been explored to predict stress levels more accurately. This paper investigates the application of Extreme Gradient Boosting in classifying psychological stress using the WESAD dataset, which includes parameters such as acceleration, electrocardiogram, electromyography, electrodermal activity, temperature, and respiration. The dataset was balanced and sampled to create a manageable subset for experimental. Extreme Gradient Boosting was chosen for its efficiency and scalability in handling complex datasets. The model was trained and validated, achieving a 95% accuracy in predicting stress levels. This study highlights the potential of integrating Extreme Gradient Boosting models into wearable devices for real-time stress monitoring. Future work involves optimizing the model to utilize fewer sensors without decreasing accuracy, ensuring it can be integrated into portable/wearable systems using tiny microcontrollers. © 2024 IEEE.
