This paper introduces a new method for managing fire hydrants that uses a monitoring system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and a Naive Bayes Classifier (NBC) for predictive maintenance. Water pressure, flow rate, and the physical state of fire hydrants are among the essential factors for the proposed system continually collecting data using an IoT sensor network. The system analyzes real-time data using NBC. These predictive capabilities reduce the potential of hydrant breakdowns during emergencies through preventive maintenance potential. It introduces a reliable IoT infrastructure for fire hydrant monitoring, improving the acquired data's granularity and timeliness. NBC provides a powerful instrument for early problem detection, significantly improving maintenance effectiveness. Since the technology is compatible with existing fire department procedures, it can easily integrate into current operational processes. Better public safety, more efficient use of resources, and more dependable fire hydrants are potential outcomes of responsive and proactive data-driven maintenance techniques. The findings improve overall fire safety and operational efficiency, with a 25% decrease in maintenance expenditures and a 40% increase in issue detection accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Broadcasting is one of the fundamental information dissemination primitives in interconnection networks, where a message is passed from one node (called originator) to all other nodes in the network. Following the increasing interest in interconnection networks, extensive research was dedicated to broadcasting. Two main research goals of this area are finding inexpensive network structures that maintain efficient broadcasting and finding the broadcast time for well-known and widely used network topologies. In the scope of this study, we will mainly focus on determining the broadcast time and nearoptimal broadcasting schemes in networks. Determination of the broadcast time of any node in an arbitrary network is known to be NP-hard. Polynomial time solutions are known only for a few network topologies. There also exist various heuristic and approximation algorithms for different network topologies. In this study, we consider the broadcast time problem on graphs that comprise some recursive structures. We initiate a novel direction to designing broadcasting algorithms on recursively defined graphs. We provide a theoretical foundation for future broadcasting studies, as well as discuss several practical applications of the approach we introduce.

The BART model is an advanced adaptation of transformers introduced by Facebook. It has incorporated elements from both BERT and GPT transformers, enabling significant advancements in language understanding and general speech processing. Utilizing both encoder and decoder components, BART proves versatile for various tasks, including translation, text completion, automatic sentence generation, entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and more. In this study, we focus on the study of pretrained models, BART and a modified version called distilbart, in the context of Zero-Shot Text Classification. In the experimental study we dive into the Zero-Shot technique applied to various pretrained Transformers. Our analysis demonstrates that, depending on the Model we utilize, we can achieve F1 scores of up to 88%, showcasing the model's effectiveness in discerning classes for this Sentiment Analysis problem using the Zero-Shot Text Classification technique.

Road is an essential transportation infrastructure to move people and goods to support economic prosperity. The efficiency, safety, security, and comfort of people have significant consequences by damage and defects on the road surface. A good-condition road ensures the land traffic runs well. This research is a collaboration between the Bandung institute of Technology and the Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning of West Java Province to develop a smart system for road damage surveys. The system was built by leveraging machine vision and IoT technologies to improve the performance of the road survey activities. The previous road damage detection, classification method, and pavement condition index (IKP) computation were performed semi-automatically. The proposed survey system developed in this work uses the Canny edge Detection algorithm and MobileNet V2 architecture to detect road defects automatically. The pavement condition index computation also improved by using the interpolation reduction factor. The system is designed into a four-layer architecture that consists of several functions and modules, i.e., the sensor system that includes a vision sensor, GPS and odometry, a hardware embedded system using a microcontroller, and machine learning to process the road condition image automatically, and a dashboard application to reveal the road condition on map. The performance resulted in accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score of the road damage detection are 54.5%, 24.2%, 78.9%, and 37%, respectively.

The ANN is a commonly used network for pattern recognition, and has been trained for various tasks such as prediction, classification, and engineering. However, this model faces challenges such as local minima and slow convergence, which have been addressed through different strategies such as combining the artificial neural network (ANN) with optimised models like the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm. However, for large datasets, the hybrid ANN-based CS algorithm can lead to overfitting. To overcome this issue, the authors propose a new algorithm called Principal Component Analysis with Cuckoo Search Neural Network (PCACSNN). The performance of this algorithm is compared to other commonly used algorithms such as ANN, backpropagation neural network (BPNN), and cuckoo search backpropagation (CSBP), using the Mean Square Error (MSE) and accuracy on classification problems. The simulations were performed on the Student Performance dataset taken from the UCIMLR. The results show that the proposed model performs better than the other models, achieving high accuracy and low MSE for both mathematics and Portuguese student datasets. For the mathematics students, the suggested model attained an accuracy of (99.32%) with MSE of 2.77E-07 for 70% training data and an accuracy of 98.52% with MSE of 2.50E-04 for 30% training data. Similarly, for the Portuguese student dataset, the proposed model obtained (99.38%) accuracy with MSE of 1.09E-08 for 70% training data and 98.72% accuracy with MSE of 1.01E-04 for 30% training data. © 2023 The Authors. A stroke, also known as brain attack, occurs when blood supply to your brain is interrupted. Primary prevention relies on prompt prediction of a stroke. While currently there are several clinical risk scores, machine learning (ML) models seems to be more suitable tools for accurate prediction of stroke events. Therefore, this work focuses on the prediction of stroke within 7 years follow-up in patients who have not suffered from a stroke or TIA event at baseline. LightGBM (LGBM), Extreme Grading Boosting (XGBoost), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree were employed in the getABI dataset, which includes 5,897 participants. The performance of models was calculated by Accuracy (ACC), Sensitivity (SENS), Specificity (SPE) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of each model. According to the comparison analysis's results, LGBM has been shown to be the most trustworthy algorithm, with accuracy 68 %. Moreover, sex, age, status of peripheral artery disease (PAD), history of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, amputation and diabetes and pulse status of different arteries can be used as a simple and cost-effective way to predict *** Relevance: A fatal medical emergency, stroke may be anticipated using artificial intelligence, and the sooner it is predicted, the more cerebrovascular disease occurrences can be avoided. © 2023 IEEE.

Elman Neural Network (ENN) is one of the most common type of recurrent neural network (RNN). It is frequently applied to numerous applications such as classification and predication. However, the ENN model, suffers from serious flaws like network stagnancy and delayed convergence during training. To enhance the effectiveness of the ENN and address the mention problems, numerous studies have been conducted to speed up the learning process of ENN. Many optimization techniques are being used and each algorithm has its own characteristics in terms of efficiency. Some of the algorithms inspire from nature, while others come from the swarm's combined behaviour. Different numbers of optimization methods, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Bat Algorithm, and Cuckoo Search (CS) are applied to improve the ENN's learning process. As a result, this study suggested using Salp Swarm algorithm (SSA) to address these issues and speed up the ENN algorithm's learning process. The SSA, which is based on the typical behaviour of Salp swarms, is proposed in this research as a novel optimization technique. Due to its effectiveness and Salp intelligent behaviour, a novel Salp algorithm improves the learning process of the artificial neural network (ANN), and ENN models. Therefore this study proposed Salp swarm artificial neural network (SSANN) and Salp swarm Elman neural network (SSElmanNN). Performance of the suggested models is evaluated against ANN, back propagation neural network (BPNN), along with ENN in term of accuracy and Mean Square Error (MSE). Two datasets such as IRIS and Credit Card are used for simulation. The simulation results demonstrate that the suggested models outperform the other algorithms used in this study in terms of MSE and accuracy. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. As a subset of machine learning, meta-learning, or learning to learn, aims at improving the model’s capabilities by employing prior knowledge and experience. A meta-learning paradigm can appropriately tackle the conventional challenges of traditional learning approaches, such as insufficient number of samples, domain shifts, and generalization. These unique characteristics position meta-learning as a suitable choice for developing influential solutions in various healthcare contexts, where the available data is often insufficient, and the data collection methodologies are different. This survey discusses meta-learning broad applications in the healthcare domain to provide insight into how and where it can address critical healthcare challenges. We first describe the theoretical foundations and pivotal methods of meta-learning. We then divide the employed meta-learning approaches in the healthcare domain into two main categories of multi/single-task learning and many/few-shot learning and survey the studies. Finally, we highlight the current challenges in meta-learning research, discuss the potential solutions, and provide future perspectives on meta-learning in healthcare. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The rate limiting service in API gateways controls request entry by throttling requests with a boundary. The rate limiting accuracy determines how efficiently it works and whether it allows requests within the throttle count or exceeds the throttle count. Latency, on the other hand, is the round-trip time of a particular API call. The accuracy of rate limiting service is defined using spillover error percentage. It is the error calculation for the requests that rate limiting service allows more than the throttle count. Requests must be sent to the rate limiting service in order to rate limit requests in the API gateway. The rate limiting service decides whether the incoming requests must be throttled. The time taken for the requests to be decided by the rate limiting service adds additional latency to the round-trip time of requests. This additional latency can be controlled by introducing a timeout. However, this could result in a degradation in the accuracy of the rate limiting. This paper investigates the particular problem and models the relationship between accuracy and round-trip latency. The findings of this research address the analysis of the accuracy and latency trade-off with respect to the parameters influencing them, and also address the prediction outcome using random forest regressor and present key findings.

Security is one of the main considerations in choosing file storage media. Cloud server is one of storage mediums that provides virtual resources to users through third party and it can be accessed through the Internet connection. Cloud computing has several advantages, such as ease to access, ease to control, user-friendly to operate, and flexible capacity. However, these advantages cause potential security problems such as data breach attack. Therefore, a strong security system becomes important to overcome the losses caused by these security problems. A solution to increase the security level is utilizing cryptography algorithms. Due to the discovery of several loopholes in the traditional cryptosystems, the concept of using Computational Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) cryptosystem was identified as a possible more complex cryptosystem to solve. Meanwhile, Role-based Access Control (RBAC) provides efficient and strong ways to manage authorization of the system resources based on user authentication. By cooperating with Identity-based Cryptography (IBC) and DNA cryptosystem, we propose an efficient authentication system to securely access electric vehicle (EV) data stored in the cloud server based on identity-based RBAC.
