Mobile edge cloud (MEC) has emerged as a critical technology for enabling low-latency and real-time mobile device applications. However, an efficient resource allocation framework for improving the user experience in MEC with heterogeneous users is still missing, especially considering the recent sparks of AI-generated content applications. This paper proposes a double-closed-loop online resource allocation (DORA) framework for user experience improvement. This framework employs inner and outer loops to construct the optimal online allocation strategy and recommend a suitable strategy for different types of users, respectively. Based on the DORA framework, we put forth OR2A-HetU, an Online Resource Recommendation and Allocation algorithm for Heterogeneous Users, to solve this resource allocation problem. The OR2A-HetU algorithm proceeds sequentially and can converge to the optimal solution when the time horizon is sufficiently large. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the baseline algorithms, and the user complaint rate decreases from 48.8% to 27.5% when the available resources increase. © 2024 IEEE.

This article presents a simulation study on the use of LoRaWAN technology in autonomous vehicles. The research focuses on developing an Auto-Handover Gateway for Autonomous Vehicles, utilizing LoRaWAN parameters such as bit rates, spreading factor (SF), packet loss, and received signal strength. These parameters are tested in simulations of autonomous vehicle movements, which include both regular and random motion patterns. The aim is to assess the performance of LoRaWAN in different scenarios and its impact on communication in autonomous vehicle systems. The simulation results show several key trends. As the vehicle moves further, the spreading factor (SF) increases, and bit rates tend to decrease, indicating a drop in communication performance over longer distances. The research also identifies that the gateway with the closest proximity to the vehicle is selected, both in random and non-random movement scenarios. Additionally, packet loss increases as the distance between the vehicle and the gateway grows, highlighting the challenges of maintaining reliable communication over long distances. These findings provide insights into optimizing LoRaWAN parameters for real-time communication in autonomous vehicles, contributing to the development of intelligent vehicle networks. © 2024 IEEE.

Studies on civilian costs of cyberwarfare operations are crucial in understanding how to protect the population in large-scale cyberattacks conducted by state actors. In this preliminary study, we conduct interviews (N=5) focusing on the harms experienced by Ukrainian civilians due to Russian cyberwarfare operations since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022 as well as mitigation measures for protection of the civil society. The findings include harms such as lack of information, lack of access to essential services, physical harms, anxiety and lack of trust in the government. The study shows that cyberwarfare operations have the potential of causing severe harm to civilians and that there is a need for future studies to be conducted and adopted by institutions in order to develop measures to mitigate, not only in Ukraine but in any countries in risk of such attacks. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is an important cash crop for animal and human consumption in many countries, especially Ethiopia due to its high protein content and high rate of production. It also improves soil fertility with the help of bacteria, which forms nodules on its roots. Ethiopia is the second largest faba bean producer;however, according to research, the yield is generally low. Among the constraints contributing to low productivity of the crop, disease is the most important. Even though there are countermeasures such as the use of chemical sprays, which is used to reduce the damage or eliminate the disease, an effective disease identification technique is still required. Chocolate spot, faba bean gal, and rust are the most common diseases of faba beans. To effectively detect the disease, in this paper, we propose an end-to-end CNN model for training before and after the dataset is preprocessed. The CNN end-to-end model is trained with raw images and achieves 92.1% training accuracy. Also, the model is trained with preprocessed data and it achieves a training accuracy of 98.14% for the end-to-end CNN classifier. The results show that the proposed approach is suitable for faba bean disease detection and can be employed to detect diseases of other crops. © 2023 IEEE.

The immersive nature of virtual reality (VR) gaming is significantly improved by the implementation of dynamic environmental systems. This paper focuses on the development and impact of a dynamic day and night cycle in a serious VR game. This feature is intended to simulate a full 24-hour cycle within a 10-minute gameplay session, resulting in a seamless transition between different times of day that impacts both the visual aesthetics and gameplay mechanics. The day and night cycle introduces strategic depth by requiring players to adjust their management strategies according to the time of day, which affects resource availability, operational efficiency, and conditions. This system not only enhances visual fidelity but also directly impacts gameplay, necessitating that player modify their strategies in response to the changing environment. Visual aesthetics are expected to increase by 15%, strategic profundity will be improved by 20%, and player immersion will be enhanced by 25%, according to the research findings. This investigation underscores the importance of natural cycles in enhancing the strategic complexity, interactivity, and realism of virtual reality environments, thereby offering valuable insights for the creation of future virtual reality games. © 2024 IEEE.

User-centric data sharing is essential to encourage citizens'active participation in the digital *** key to smart cities,a form of the digital economy,is the promotion of public use of citizen ***,it is not easy to utilize data without citizens’*** this study,we took a technological approach to these *** access(UMA)is a well-known framework for delegating resource access rights to others on the *** UMA,authorization mechanisms are designed to be centralized so that resource owners can centrally manage access rights for various resources stored in different ***,the lack of transparency in the authorization mechanism is a barrier to its implementation in large-scale systems such as smart *** this study,we developed a blockchain-based cross-domain authorization architecture that enables a resource-sharing ecosystem in which organizations that wish to utilize data can freely trade with each *** proposed architecture solves the transparency problem that conventional authorization systems have had by designing the authorization mechanism on blockchain *** implemented the proposed architecture as smart contracts and evaluated its processing *** resultant time required for delegating access rights and accessing resources was less than 500 ***,we found that the fluctuation in the processing time overhead was *** on these results,we concluded that performance degradation with the proposed architecture is minor.

We present the non-FIFO time-dependent graph model with REalistic vehicle eXchange times (REX) for schedule-based multimodal public transport, along with a novel query algorithm called TRIP-based LAbel-correction propagation (TRIPLA) algorithm that efficiently solves the realistic earliest-arrival routing problem. The REX model possesses all strong features of previous time-dependent graph models without suffering from their deficiencies. It handles non-negligible exchanges from one vehicle to another, as well as supports non-FIFO instances which are typical in public transport, without compromising space efficiency. We conduct a thorough experimental evaluation with real-world data which demonstrates that TRIPLA significantly outperforms all state-of-the-art query algorithms for multimodal earliest-arrival routing in schedule-based public transport. © Spyros Kontogiannis, Paraskevi-Maria-Malevi Machaira, Andreas Paraskevopoulos, and Christos Zaroliagis.

Generation Alpha, the present primary school cohort born after 2010, has significant exposure to mobile devices and gaming. Adopting a "One Size Fits All" approach in modern teaching methods may not be effective, as it overlooks individual learning preferences. Personalized learning can be facilitated by identifying a student’s learning style (LS). Adaptive learning based on LS has been found to have positive effects in several studies. However, traditional learning style detection techniques such as questionnaires and self-assessments can be time-consuming and demotivating for primary school students. This study aims to propose a game-based activity framework as an alternative to the Index of Learning Style (ILS) questionnaire linked with Felder Silverman Learning Style Model for LS detection. The proposed game was evaluated with a sample of sixty students, and preliminary results indicate that the game outperforms the original ILS questionnaire in terms of student engagement and motivation to complete LS activities, achieving an overall satisfaction rate of 87.5%. The second phase of the research will focus on evaluating the accuracy of LS prediction using the designed game, which is currently ongoing.

A mixed interval graph is an interval graph that has, for every pair of intersecting intervals, either an arc (directed arbitrarily) or an (undirected) edge. We are particularly interested in scenarios where edges and arcs are defined by the geometry of intervals. In a proper coloring of a mixed interval graph G, an interval u receives a lower (different) color than an interval v if G contains arc (u, v) (edge {u, v}). Coloring of mixed graphs has applications, for example, in scheduling with precedence constraints;see a survey by Sotskov [Mathematics, 2020]. For coloring general mixed interval graphs, we present a min{ω(G), λ(G) + 1}-approximation algorithm, where ω(G) is the size of a largest clique and λ(G) is the length of a longest directed path in G. For the subclass of bidirectional interval graphs (introduced recently for an application in graph drawing), we show that optimal coloring is NP-hard. This was known for general mixed interval graphs. We introduce a new natural class of mixed interval graphs, which we call containment interval graphs. In such a graph, there is an arc (u, v) if interval u contains interval v, and there is an edge {u, v} if u and v overlap. Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC) facilitates secure collaboration among multiple parties while safeguarding the privacy of their confidential data. This paper introduces a two-party quantum SMC protocol designed for evaluating binary Boolean functions using single qubits. Complexity analyses demonstrate a reduction of 66.7% in required quantum resources, achieved by utilizing single qubits instead of multi-particle entangled states. However, the quantum communication cost has increased by 40% due to the amplified exchange of qubits among participants. Furthermore, we bolster security by performing additional quantum operations along the y-axis of the Bloch sphere, effectively hiding the output from potential adversaries. We design the corresponding quantum circuit and implement the proposed protocol on the IBM Qiskit platform, yielding reliable outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
