The rise of Modular Deep Learning showcases its potential in various Natural Language Processing applications. Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) modularity has been shown to work for various use cases, from domain adaptation to multilingual setups. However, all this work covers the case where the modular components are trained and deployed within one single Pre-trained Language Model (PLM). This model-specific setup is a substantial limitation on the very modularity that modular architectures are trying to achieve. We ask whether current modular approaches are transferable between models and whether we can transfer the modules from more robust and larger PLMs to smaller ones. In this work, we aim to fill this gap via a lens of Knowledge Distillation, commonly used for model compression, and present an extremely straightforward approach to transferring pre-trained, task-specific PEFT modules between same-family PLMs. Moreover, we propose a method that allows the transfer of modules between incompatible PLMs without any change in the inference complexity. The experiments on Named Entity Recognition, Natural Language Inference, and Paraphrase Identification tasks over multiple languages and PEFT methods showcase the initial potential of transferable modularity. In today's world, where digital threats are on the rise, one particularly concerning threat is the Mirai botnet. This malware is designed to infect and command a collection of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The use of Mirai attacks has intensified in recent times, thus threatening the smooth operation of numerous devices that are connected to a network. Such attacks carry adverse consequences that include interference with services or the leakage of confidential information. To fight this growing threat, smart and flexible detection techniques are required to counter the new methods cyber attackers use. The aim of this research is to develop a resilient defense against Mirai botnet attacks. The Long Short Term Memory term (LSTM) and XGBoost combined have the best performance of 97.7% accuracy score. With this combination, the aim is to strengthen our cyber defenses against sophisticated and dynamically operating Mirai botnets to further enhance the security of our digital world. © 2024

Drone based terrorist attacks are increasing daily. It is not expected to be long before drones are used to carry out terror attacks in urban areas. We have developed the DUCK multiagent testbed that security agencies can use to simulate drone-based attacks by diverse actors and develop a combination of surveillance camera, drone, and cyber defenses against them. Service composition is an important and effective technique that enables atomic services to be combined together to forma more powerful service,i.e.,a composite *** the pervasiveness of the Internet and the proliferation of interconnected computing devices,it is essential that service composition embraces an adaptive service provisioning *** learning has emerged as a powerful tool to compose and adapt Web services in open and dynamic ***,the most common applications of reinforcement learning algorithms are relatively inefficient in their use of the interaction experience data,whichmay affect the stability of the learning process when deployed to cloud *** particular,they make just one learning update for each interaction *** paper introduces a novel approach that aims to achieve greater data efficiency by saving the experience data and using it in aggregate to make updates to the learned *** proposed approach devises an offline learning scheme for cloud service composition where the online learning task is transformed into a series of supervised learning tasks.A set of algorithms is proposed under this scheme in order to facilitate and empower efficient service composition in the cloud under various policies and different *** results of our experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for composing and adapting cloud services,especially under dynamic environment settings,compared to their online learning counterparts.

Performance Analysis of Three Spectrum Sensing Detection Techniques with Ambient Backscatter Communication in Cognitive Radio Networks

In wireless communications, the Ambient Backscatter Communication (AmBC) technique is a promisingapproach, detecting user presence accurately at low power levels. At low power or a low Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR), there is no dedicated power for the users. Instead, they can transmit information by reflecting the ambientRadio Frequency (RF) signals in the spectrum. Therefore, it is essential to detect user presence in the spectrum forthe transmission of data without loss or without collision at a specific time. In this paper, the authors proposed anovel Spectrum Sensing (SS) detection technique in the Cognitive Radio (CR) spectrum, by developing the *** Matched Filter Detection with Inverse covariance (MFDI), Cyclostationary Feature Detection with Inversecovariance (CFDI) and Hybrid Filter Detection with Inverse covariance (HFDI) approaches are used with AmBCto detect the presence of users at low power levels. The performance of the three detection techniques is measuredusing the parameters of Probability of Detection (PD), Probability of False Alarms (Pfa), Probability of MissedDetection (Pmd), sensing time and throughput at low power or low SNR. The results show that there is a significantimprovement via the HFDI technique for all the parameters.

Zirkus Empathico 2.0: a multiplayer serious mobile game for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with a focus on enhancing social and emotional development

This study explores the effectiveness of the multiplayer serious mobile game "Zirkus Empathico (ZE) 2.0" in enhancing social-emotional behaviors in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It aims to assess how such games can foster emotional recognition, empathy, and prosocial behavior, thereby supporting the holistic development of children with ASD. An eight-week randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted between January and April 2021 at autism centers in Islamabad, Pakistan, and Berlin, Germany. The study involved 107 children aged 5–11 years, with 60 diagnosed with ASD and 47 typically developing children serving as an Active Control Group (ACG). Participants were engaged in sessions using the bilingual"ZE 2.0"game, incorporating multiplayer and emotional learning modules. The intervention required 120 min of weekly training supplemented by daily sessions. Post-intervention assessments demonstrated significant improvements in the ASD group compared to the control group in areas of empathy and emotional awareness, as evidenced by higher scores on the Griffith Empathy Measure (GEM) and multiplayer module evaluations. Notable was the ability of participants to apply learned social skills in dynamic, real-world contexts, which suggests the game’s effectiveness transcends the controlled settings typically associated with ASD interventions. ZE 2.0 adds to the social and teamwork competencies of children with ASD. Besides encouraging peers to be proactive in communications and cooperation, the multiplayer mode provides an immersion learning atmosphere for facilitating social and emotional development. Such an outcome underlines the perspectives of serious games for use as a framework for the treatment and education of children who have ASD. In this manner, serious games can be utilized as a supplementary or alternative means of treating ASD. With the gradual development in industrialization, the advent of computer and information technology has evolved in the field of engineering and construction industry. BIM technology has become a valuable part of prefabricated concrete engineering with the advancement of modern technology based on 3D modeling simulation. In order to realize the industrialization and automation of prefabricated concrete structures, this paper analyzes the characteristics of fabricated concrete structure and BIM, combining the two techniques. This work applies BIM to fabricated concrete design and chooses finite element analysis and calculation software ETABS to analyze the structure model. The results show that the mass participation ratio of the model studied in this paper reaches more than 90%, the interlayer displacement angle is less than 1/550, and the modal and shell internal force analysis results meet the requirements. In this paper, modal analysis, shell internal force analysis under live load and structural dynamic analysis under response spectrum load conditions were carried out on the ETABS model converted from the Revit model and the model directly established by ETABS. The ETABS model converted from the Revit model by the data interface plug-in can be used for structural analysis. © 2023, CAD Solutions, LLC. All rights reserved.

The expansion of the internet of things (IoT) and Big Data are two factors that have contributed to the rise in popularity of smart cities. The ability to anticipate the quality of the air in an area with precision and efficiency is one of the fundamental building blocks of a smart city. The amount of polluted air found in smart cities throughout the world has been gradually growing. Because of this, there has been a rise in the concentration of several air pollutants in the environment, including particulate matter (PM 10), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and PM 2.5, amongst others. Because of the possibility of uncontrollable repercussions, such as an increase in the severity of asthma and cardiovascular disease, this situation poses a risk to the country and to the people who live in it. Heavy industry and vehicle exhaust have been major contributors to the growth of air pollution in smart cities such as New Delhi, Bombay, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru in India. The purpose of this investigation is to compare and contrast the efficiency of a variety of machine learning methods in order to assess the precision of the air quality index (AQI) projection of PM 2.5 in Chandigarh, India. Models for predicting AQI are trained and tested using a variety of statistical techniques like Linear regression, Lasso regression, KNN regression, and Random Forest regression This Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) found for Linear regression, Lasso regression, KNN regression, and Random Forest regression are 31.01, 29,45, 37.09 and 28.3. From all four models, random forest regression was more accurate than the other three regression models in estimating PM 2.5 levels in India's smart city. © 2023 IEEE.

EFX Allocations and Orientations on Bipartite Multi-graphs: A Complete Picture

We consider the fundamental problem of fairly allocating a set of indivisible items among agents having valuations that are represented by a multi-graph – here, agents appear as the vertices and items as the edges between them and each vertex (agent) only values the set of its incident edges (items). The goal is to find a fair, i.e., envy-free up to any item (EFX) allocation. This model has recently been introduced by Christodoulou et al. [2023] where they show that EFX allocations always exist on simple graphs for monotone valuations, i.e., where any two agents can share at most one edge (item). A natural question arises as to what happens when we go beyond simple graphs and study various classes of multi-graphs? We answer the above question affirmatively for the valuation class of bipartite multi-graphs and multi-cycles. Our main positive result is that EFX allocations on bipartite multi-graphs (and multi-cycles) always exist and can be computed in polynomial time for additive valuations. We, therefore, push the frontiers of our understanding of EFX allocations and expand the scenarios where they are known to exist for an arbitrary number of agents. Next, we study EFX orientations (i.e., allocations where every item is allocated to one of its two endpoint agents) and give a complete picture of when they exist for bipartite multi-graphs dependent on two parameters—the number of edges shared between any two agents and the diameter of the graph. Finally, we prove that it is NP-complete to determine whether a given fair division instance on a bipartite multi-graph admits an EFX orientation. © 2024, CC BY.
