The Internet of Things (IoT) systems include a massive number of connected devices. The communication between these devices requires a huge amount of communication. Thus, it is very crucial for an IoT system to reduce communication volumes by minimizing the amount of data transmission. There are several approaches to achieving the goal of data transmission reduction, such as data compression and dual prediction. Dual prediction schemes received more attention in comparison to data compression. The mainstream techniques for proposing dual prediction schemes in the literature can be classified into two main groups, namely, filter-based and deep learning-based methods. The filter-based methods, such as the 1-D Kalman filter, are lightweight in terms of running time and the model’s memory requirements. On the other hand, deep learning-based methods require more memory space and training time, but deep learning models are more accurate as predictive models in comparison to filter-based methods in dual prediction schemes. There are very limited efforts to utilize machine learning methods in dual prediction schemes as a compromise between the aforementioned mainstream techniques. In this work, we extended one of these limited efforts, which utilizes boosting ensemble learning as a machine learning predictive method in a proposed dual prediction scheme. The current work proposes exploring the performance gap between the three main approaches to ensemble learning, namely, boosting, stacking, and bagging. The three proposed ensemble learning models are evaluated on a real dataset and compared against state-of-the-art methods. The obtained results show that among the ensemble learning models, boosting and bagging models are better than the stacking model, but the three proposed ensemble learning models outperformed the state-of-the-art methods of comparison. From News to Summaries: Building a Hungarian Corpus for Extractive and Abstractive Summarization

Training summarization models requires substantial amounts of training data. However for less resourceful languages like Hungarian, openly available models and datasets are notably scarce. To address this gap our paper introduces HunSum-2 an open-source Hungarian corpus suitable for training abstractive and extractive summarization models. The dataset is assembled from segments of the Common Crawl corpus undergoing thorough cleaning, preprocessing and deduplication. In addition to abstractive summarization we generate sentence-level labels for extractive summarization using sentence similarity. We train baseline models for both extractive and abstractive summarization using the collected dataset. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the trained models, we perform both quantitative and qualitative evaluation. Online Control of Linear Systems with Unbounded and Degenerate Noise

This paper investigates the problem of controlling a linear system under possibly unbounded and degenerate noise with unknown cost functions, known as an online control problem. In contrast to the existing work, which assumes the boundedness of noise, we reveal that for convex costs, an Oe(√T) regret bound can be achieved even for unbounded noise, where T denotes the time horizon. Moreover, when the costs are strongly convex, we establish an O(poly(log T)) regret bound without the assumption that noise covariance is non-degenerate, which has been required in the literature. The key ingredient in removing the rank assumption on noise is a system transformation associated with the noise covariance. This simultaneously enables the parameter reduction of an online control algorithm. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Post-stroke rehabilitation of upper extremity (UE) motor function is essential. Despite the widespread use of UE rehabilitation in clinical settings, assessing the success of these treatments is challenging. Methods for evaluating UE motor function include task performance under clinical supervision, patient self-reports, and data analysis from wearable devices equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. In prior research, we demonstrated that machine learning and deep learning models using data from a single wrist-worn accelerometer sensor could accurately differentiate between functional and non-functional UE movements in stroke patients. To overcome the limitations of single wrist-worn accelerometer sensors - challenges in capturing the full context of functional movements - this study presents a new deep learning (DL) based framework designed to classify functional and non-functional arm movements in videos captured from a conventional camera. The system is entirely automated and comprises two DL networks. The first network performs human pose estimation, extracting 2D pose key points of the paretic arm(s) and torso on 2-second sequences of the frames. The second network then uses these 2D pose landmarks to classify the movement sequence as functional or non-functional. This system offers two key benefits for rehabilitation. First, it can automatically generate initial annotations for video frames, significantly reducing the time needed for manual labeling. Second, analyzing the effectiveness of UE rehabilitation through third-person videos allows for objective outcome measurement of UE treatments in stroke survivors' home environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Metaheuristics are universal optimization algorithms which should be used for solving difficult problems, unsolvable by classic approaches. In this paper we aim at constructing novel socio-cognitive metaheuristic based on castes, and apply several versions of this algorithm to optimization of time-delay system model. Industrial internet of things (IIoT) is the usage of internet of things(IoT) devices and applications for the purpose of sensing, processing andcommunicating real-time events in the industrial system to reduce the unnecessary operational cost and enhance manufacturing and other industrial-relatedprocesses to attain more profits. However, such IoT based smart industriesneed internet connectivity and interoperability which makes them susceptibleto numerous cyber-attacks due to the scarcity of computational resourcesof IoT devices and communication over insecure wireless channels. Therefore, this necessitates the design of an efficient security mechanism for IIoTenvironment. In this paper, we propose a hyperelliptic curve cryptography(HECC) based IIoT Certificateless Signcryption (IIoT-CS) scheme, with theaim of improving security while lowering computational and communicationoverhead in IIoT environment. HECC with 80-bit smaller key and parameterssizes offers similar security as elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) with 160-bitlong key and parameters sizes. We assessed the IIoT-CS scheme security byapplying formal and informal security evaluation techniques. We used Realor Random (RoR) model and the widely used automated validation of internet security protocols and applications (AVISPA) simulation tool for formalsecurity analysis and proved that the IIoT-CS scheme provides resistance tovarious attacks. Our proposed IIoT-CS scheme is relatively less expensivecompared to the current state-of-the-art in terms of computational cost andcommunication overhead. Furthermore, the IIoT-CS scheme is 31.25% and 51.31% more efficient in computational cost and communication overhead,respectively, compared to the most recent protocol.

Following the introduction of the socio-cognitive caste-based algorithms into the classic evolutionary metaheuristics, in this paper we focus on similar task regarding agent-based universal optimization methods. We tackle EMAS and DE algorithms and enrich them also with TOPSIS-inspired mechanism. Besides giving the details of the methods and the background, we present preliminary results after applying those techniques to solving the problem of optimization of time-delay system model. © 2022 IEEE.

The advent of the Internet has significantly stream-lined daily tasks through the rapid increase of online services. Everyday activities, such as purchasing goods and scheduling appointments with healthcare professionals, have become more speedy, efficient and user-friendly with the integration of the Internet. The continuous improvement of online services has led to many people moving towards digital activities. As a result, it has heightened the recording of personal and payment transaction data across various storage mediums, including databases and log files. The protection and regulation of this sensitive data are imperative, aligning with the guidelines outlined in GDPR and PCI-DSS compliances. Recognizing exposed personal data poses a considerable challenge. This research introduces a novel approach to identifying payment card industry data (PCI) and personally identifiable information (PII). The research project proposes a machine learning-based text classification model utilizing the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to discern PII and PCI data within a given text. The CNN model has been constructed and compared against Naive Bayes, Gradient Boost, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine (SVM) models. The CNN model achieved the highest accuracy at 0.96 (96%). Additionally, the F1 scores for each class were significant, with PII scoring 0.94, PCI scoring 0.95, and Normal scoring 0.99. Following the model's construction and training, it was employed with the saved tokenizer's word indexes and label encoders in the developed classification tool. This tool successfully delivered the promised results, identifying exposed PII and PCI data.

In human life, skin cancer is a curse. If not appropriately diagnosed, it spreads around all body parts in the earlier stage. The melanoma skin cancer death rate is 75% all over the world. There is an urgent need for a cure to be in place. Swarm and evolutionary computation for healthcare deals with real-world healthcare applications. One of the best ways to do this is to find the genes that need to be turned off such that only cancer cells can die. The current therapies used to cure cancer focus on turning off cancer cells but, at times, affect healthy tissues. Using the power of Artificial Intelligence, one can easily mark out the cancer-affected area and provide treatment accordingly. Segmentation techniques can be used to mark cancer lesions, and advanced deep learning algorithms in computer vision can help classify which class of cancer lesions. Automatic detection of melanoma by using a dermoscopic sample is tricky to find the stage and percentage of lesions affected by using deep convolutional neural networks with the help of machine vision tools. To predict skin lesions, we developed a model with three layers, each having output channels of 16, 32, and 64, respectively. For this research, different samples were collected from the international skin imaging collaboration database (ISIC2019, ISIC2020, ISIC2021). The study computed the most important parameters for classifying and identifying the lesion with accuracy, precision, recall, and specificity values. The proposed DCNN model classifier attained an accuracy of 88.82%, 93.45%, and 95.15% with the respective datasets of ISIC2019, ISIC2020, and ISIC2021, indicating high performance compared with the other state-of-the-art networks. The proposed model is a better framework for automating early detection and classification of melanoma skin cancer to protect many lives and avoid mishaps. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Reducing ADC Front-end Costs During Training of On-sensor Printed Multilayer Perceptrons

Printed electronics technology offers a cost-effective and fully-customizable solution to computational needs beyond the capabilities of traditional silicon technologies, offering advantages such as on-demand manufacturing and conformal, low-cost hardware. However, the low-resolution fabrication of printed electronics, which results in large feature sizes, poses a challenge for integrating complex designs like those of machine learning (ML) classification systems. Current literature optimizes only the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) circuit within the classification system, while the cost of analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) is overlooked. Printed applications frequently require on-sensor processing, yet while the digital classifier has been extensively optimized, the analog-to-digital interfacing, specifically the ADCs, dominates the total area and energy consumption. In this work, we target digital printed MLP classifiers and we propose the design of customized ADCs per MLP’s input which involves minimizing the distinct represented numbers for each input, simplifying thus the ADC’s circuitry. Incorporating this ADC optimization in the MLP training, enables eliminating ADC levels and the respective comparators, while still maintaining high classification accuracy. Our approach achieves 11.2x lower ADC area for less than 5% accuracy drop across varying MLPs. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
