Short distance optical interconnections, on-printed circuit boards, on-backplanes, and even on-chip, are a promising solution for replacing copper interconnections in future Data Center and HPC systems. Since photonic technology introduces new network building blocks, topology design for all the packaging levels should be reconsidered. This paper focuses on the on-board level of the packaging hierarchy, and proposes lay-out strategies for optical interconnection networks on optical printed circuit boards (OPCBs), based on direct topology families (tori, meshes and fully connected networks). We also describe a methodology for designing OPCBs given a set of input parameters, including building blocks specifications as well as traffic demands. The onboard topology design methodology generates all the feasible designs within the topology families examined, following our proposed OPCB lay-out approach, and selects the optimal designs based on specific optimization criteria.

A crucial point on the delivery of multicast content over mobile multicast networks is the utilization of Forward Error Correction (FEC) codes on the application layer (AL-FEC) so as to introduce robustness against arbitrary erasures on different recipients without the need of inefficient common error control methods based on data retransmission. FEC is a feedback free error recovery method where the sender introduces redundant data in advance with the source data enabling the recipients to recover from different arbitrary packet losses. The main issue on the efficient application of AL-FEC protection is the adaptation of the introduced redundancy to the current network conditions, in order to avoid network resources wastage ensuring at the same time sufficient transmission robustness. Based on this, in this work we present an adaptive weighted online algorithm aiming at the efficient application of RaptorQ AL-FEC codes over mobile multicast services. The proposed algorithm adapts the introduced AL-FEC transmission overhead exploiting at first the reception reports ability defined by several mobile multicast standards and thereafter the performance properties of the newly introduced RaptorQ FEC codes. We introduce the competitive framework of the efficient application of AL-FEC protection over mobile multicast networks, in the context of which, we design and analyze the adaptive online weighted algorithm and we further provide a series of simulation results to analyze the performance of the proposed scheme.

Profile cloning is a severe security issue in social networks since it is used to make a profile identical to existing ones. Profile cloning detection creates a possibility to detect frauds that would use people's trust to gather social information. This paper proposes two novel methods of profile cloning detection and also presents state-of-the-art research. The first method is based on the similarity of attributes from both profiles and the second method is based on the similarity of relationship networks. The methods are further evaluated with experiments and the results clearly describes that the proposed methods are useful and efficient compared to existing methods. The paper also stress that profile cloning in Facebook is not only possible but also fairly easy to perform.

The main focus of this work is the effort to minimize the power consumption on mobile devices such as notebooks, netbooks, tablets, tablets, smartphones, etc. by adjusting the transmission power of the wireless card, thus extending the battery life. In order to achieve that, we provide a mechanism (which we call Signal Adaptation Mechanism - SAM) that optimizes the power depending on the quality of the connection. This mechanism measures the quality of the transmission and adjusts the transmission power accordingly, by utilizing an expanded array of metrics along the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), for more accurate estimation. It also aims at easy implementation on various wireless adapters. In order to evaluate, fine-tune and improve the mechanism, a list of experiments has been performed. These experiments were conducted on a real (as opposed to simulated) ad-hoc network, where the nodes of the networks followed varying moving patterns.

In this work, a novel, multi-space, real-time and robust human tracking system is going to be presented. The system exploits a multi-camera network monitoring the multi-space dynamic environment under interest, detecting and tracking the humans in it. The system is able to handle the dynamic changes of the environment, as well as partial occlusions utilizing virtual top cameras. Furthermore, the system is able to real-time visualize the detection and tracking results on the architectural map of the dynamic environment, as well as a variety of statistics. The visual spatio-temporal analysis of the tracked data are presented in a consolidated form for the overall monitoring area and analytically for each space separately and for each tracked human. These statistics could be also combined with the energy consumption in the area, as well as with other environmental data providing semantic information such as comfort. The overall system is equipped with a number of visual interactive tools providing real-time spatio-temporal human presence analysis offering to the user the opportunity to capture and isolate the areas/spaces with high human presence, the days and times of high human presence, to correlate this information with the potential energy consumption and indicators such as comfort.
