The paper introduces the concept of a crystalline-like model of a computer communication network (CCN) composed of routers forming a repeating or periodic arrangement. The considered homogenous network assumes the same routers servicing the same number of transmissions form an array. In such a network several isomorphic sub-networks encompassing packet transmission processes serviced by each router, interact each other as to provide a variety of demand-responsive host-server transmission services. In that context, a crystalline-like layout of physically different, however functionally identical, routers provides a homogenous array supporting computer network flows. In turn, packet transmission flows are treated as multimodal processes encompassing arbitrarily given inter-computer communications. Assuming the packets passing their origin-destination routes are synchronized by the same mechanism of packet transmission the problem boils down to a communication processes scheduling. Since concurrent transmission flows are processed along the same presumed routes, hence the schedules sought are cyclic ones. In general case, cycles of multimodal processes depend on CNN's periodicity. That objective to develop conditions allowing one to calculate the cyclic schedule of whole CCN while taking into account only periodicity of its repeating isomorphic structure.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to address the frequent item set hiding problem, by formulating it as an integer linear program (ILP). The solution of the ILP points out the transactions that need to be sanitized in order to achieve the hiding of the sensitive frequent item sets, while the impact on other non-sensitive item sets is minimized. We present a novel heuristic approach to calculate the coefficients of the objective function of the ILP, while at the same time we minimize the side effects introduced by the hiding process. We also propose a sanitization algorithm that performs the hiding on the selected transactions. Finally, we evaluate the proposed method on real datasets and we compare the results of the newly proposed method with those of other state of the art approaches.

Remote robotic explorations for collapsed buildings in a severe disaster are demanded. However, rescue robots cannot approach the rubble due to safety risks. This study proposes a remote vertical exploration system for collapsed buildings with a robotic inspection system hoisted by a crane. An Active Scope Camera (ASC) has many advantages for the vertical exploration such as a light and flexible continuum body to produce distributed driving forces. The purpose of this paper is to confirm the feasibility of the vertical exploration system with the ASC. The vertical explorations have proper problems related to contact and hanging conditions of the scope cable. We developed a new ASC that has a two-step bending mechanism to produce larger head movement in multi-DOF. We also evaluated the performances of the prototype when the contact areas were small. Finally, we conducted a remote vertical exploration experiments at the simulated collapsed building in 6 m height. The robot could explore in six different pathways by changing head directions and running the rubbles within seven trials. The experimental results showed that the proposed system has high potential to get inserted in the deep area in the rubble.

Broadband is starting to be deemed by many as a public utility and several countries have already recognized it as a civil right. The European Commission (EC) acknowledging the significance of broadband services for the improvement of citizen welfare and its economic benefits, has put in place targets for the diffusion of broadband to all citizens and businesses in the European Union. This paper, comparatively assesses the current state of affairs in broadband and digital public services in selected South East Europe countries in order to identify weaknesses and highlight strengths and to produce knowledge resources and provide insights that will support informed decision making including strategy and policy planning. It builds on three surveys that took place in the second quarter of 2013 and evidence gathered from seven South East Europe countries.

The motivation for writing this paper is to present the method for qualitative evaluation of full body movements with Gesture Description Language. By qualitative evaluation we understand the possibility of evaluating the similarity between the template of movement defined in GDL script (GDLs) and physical activity performed by observed user. The establishing of this methodology allows us to perform real time evaluation of movements accuracy defined as similarity to the statistically computed templates. The presented methodology can be used not only to perform advanced numerical analysis of movements but also to support multimedia visual feedback to various movements activities in computer applications. The initial evaluation presented in this paper proved that proposed method of qualitative analysis of movements has a potential to be used in practice.

MapReduce has been a worldwide accepted framework for solving data-intensive applications. To prevent MapReduce jobs from being interrupted by node failures which occur frequently in a large-scale MapReduce cluster, current MapReduce implementations, e.g., Hadoop, employ a task reexecution policy (TR policy for short) for MapReduce jobs, i.e., when a map/reduce task of a job fails due to node failure, this policy reperforms the task on another node. However, the impact of the TR policy on job completion reliability and job completion time have not been studied from a theoretical viewpoint, especially when the job is given different characteristics, e.g., different input data sizes, different numbers of reduce tasks, and different intermediate data sizes. In this study, we derive the job completion reliability (JCR for short) of a MapReduce job based on Poisson distributions and analyze the expected job completion time (JCT for short) based on the universal generation function. We use nine settings of task re-execution factor (TR factor for short) to explore the impact of the TR policy on the JCR and JCT of jobs. The results show that the TR policy can effectively improve JCR without significantly prolonging JCT. But there is no single TR factor with which all jobs can achieve a high JCR.

Our motivation for writing this paper was to present application of Gesture Description Language (GDL) methodology in the role of natural user interface (NUI) for immersive virtual reality (VR) environment. In order to do so we have adapted an existing so called voxel-engine framework by adding essential components. In order to apply NUI in VR environment we have implemented two types of interactions with the system: mouse - like two-dimensional point and click interface and movements commands that are used to travel through VR. The validation of our method was performed on group of twelve students of both sexes. Our experiment might be easily repeated by using our software modules.

In this paper, as variations of a Tai mapping between rooted labeled ordered trees (trees, for short), we introduce a segmental mapping to preserve the parent-children relationship as possible, and also top-down segmengal and bottom-up segmental mappings as the segmental mappings that contain the pair of the roots and the pair of the leaves, respectively. Then, we show that these mappings provide a new hierarchy for the variations of the Tai mapping in addition to a well-known one, in particular, the top-down segmental mapping coincides with a top-down mapping. Also we show that both segmental and bottom-up segmental distances as the minimum costs of segmental and bottom-up segmental mappings are metrics. Next, we design algorithms to compute the segmental and the bottom-up segmental distances in quadratic time and space. Finally, we give experimental results for the segmental distance.
