Single cell tracking, based on the computerised analysis of time-lapse movies, is a sophisticated experimental technique to quantify single cell dynamics in time and space. Although the resulting cellular genealogies comprehensively describe the divisional history of each cell, there are many open questions regarding the statistical analysis of this type of data. In particular, it is unclear, how tracking uncertainties or spatial information of cellular development can correctly be incorporated into the analysis. Here we propose a generalised description of single cell tracking data by spatiotemporal networks that can account for ambiguities in cell assignment as well as for spatial relations between cells. We present a way to measure correlations among cell states by analysing the mutual information in state space considering causal (time-respecting) paths and illustrate our approach by a corresponding example. We conclude that a comprehensive spatiotemporal description of single cell tracking data is ultimately necessary to fully exploit the information obtained by time-lapse imaging.

This paper introduces a simulation and evaluation of guidance, navigation, and control algorithms applied to an autonomous hovercraft. A line-of-sight guidance law is adopted in conjunction with a neural network based adaptive dynamic inversion control scheme for the underactuated hovercraft following a prescribed path. The simulation result demonstrates that the guidance and control scheme can be effective in waypoint following of the underactuated hovercraft, especially, when external disturbances exist. In this paper we present a feedback-based adaptation mechanism that adjusts the transmission power of a wireless card on commodity PCs depending on the quality of the connection. Our purpose is to manage the available power in order to achieve lower power consumption without negatively affecting the user's perception of connection quality. We based our implementation on an existing theoretical model and focused on resolving problems and removing assumptions which made it inefficient in real life implementation. The initial model manages to minimize the power consumption in networks with exactly two nodes. In this paper, we extend the model to consider the possibility of the existence of a base station, where any number of nodes can be connected. Our objectives for the base station are to minimize the power consumption and guarantee continuous connectivity for all mobile nodes. We implement the adaptation mechanism for a specific adapter with open sources drivers thus allowing necessary modifications. We conduct a number of real world experiments. The results indicate that power consumption can be significantly reduced for nodes that are either almost stationary or slowly moving (e.g. at walking speed), without any significant increase in packet loss. The results are quite important as nowadays mobile devices with limited battery life time use tethering to become base stations for other devices like in ad-hoc networks.

This paper proposes an integrated approach for the identification of daily hand movements with a view to control prosthetic members. The raw EMG signal is decomposed into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) with the use of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). A number of features are extracted in time and in frequency domain. Two different dimentionality methods are tested, namely the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique and the RELIEF feature selection algorithm. The outputs of the dimensionality reduction stage are then fed to a linear classifier to perform the detection task. The approach was tested on a group of young individuals and the results appear promising.

Continued increasing of fault rate in integrate circuit makes processors more susceptible to errors, especially many-core processor. Meanwhile, most systems or applications do not need full fault coverage, which has excessive overhead. So on-demand fault tolerance is desired for these applications. In this paper, we propose an adaptive low-overhead fault tolerance mechanism for many-core system, called Device View Redundancy (DVR). It treats fault tolerance as a device that can be configured and used by application when high reliability is needed. Nevertheless, DVR exploits the idle resources for low-overhead fault tolerance, which is based on the observation that the utilization of many-core system is low due to lack of parallelism in application. Finally, the experiment shows that the performance overhead of DVR is reduced by 16% to 98% compared with full Dual Modular Redundancy (DMR).

This paper presents a pattern recognition approach for the identification of basic hand movements using surface electromyographic (EMG) data. The EMG signal is decomposed using Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) and subsequently a feature extraction stage takes place. Various combinations of feature subsets are tested using a simple linear classifier for the detection task. Our results suggest that the use of EMD can increase the discrimination ability of the conventional feature sets extracted from the raw EMG signal.
