We investigate saturated geometric drawings of graphs with geometric thickness k, where no edge can be added without increasing k. We establish lower and upper bounds on the number of edges in such drawings if the vertices lie in convex position. We also study the more restricted version where edges are precolored, and for k = 2 the case for vertices in non-convex position. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Social media is widely utilized for crime, highlighting the need for automated crime detection and prevention systems that can reach a vast audience. There is substantial study on specific social media crimes, but a holistic model to detect them is needed. This article classifies cybercrime tweets using deep neural networks, specifically deep CNNs, a common computer vision method. Although promising, deep neural networks need further research to find their best topology. Manual iteration and intensive testing limit the deep CNN model's practicality. CNN embedding dimensions, dense unit count, learning rate, and batch size affect model performance. Thus, constructing an effective CNN model with little manual intervention and domain expertise is difficult. This study reduces dimensionality and improves model performance by selecting the most relevant and informative dataset features using CNN hyperparameters. Five CNN feature selection methods using optimal hyperparameters are shown. These approaches use CNN, SO-roulette wheel, SO-tournament, SO-linear rank, SO-exponential rank, and Grey Wolf Optimizer to identify and categorize Arabic criminal tweets. The CNN-SO-tournament model recognizes illicit Arabic tweets with 99.60% accuracy. This study substantially improves Twitter crime prevention.

Over the past decade, a noticeable increase in literature can be seen in wearable foot interfaces, which have evolved from activity tracking to enhancing human capabilities. Our legs, being the largest body limbs, play an essential role in various functions such as locomotion, maintaining balance, supporting proper posture and providing ground-contact using our feet. Hence, foot augmentations offer the opportunity to augment our entire body. However, most prior research focuses on specific application areas, thus affording a research agenda to further understand the full potential of feet in designing augmentations and to contextualize it in the broader human augmentation space. To achieve this, in this workshop, we invite researchers, designers, and practitioners, novice and expert, interested in designing human and foot augmentations. We will discuss how early foot interfaces helped in augmenting humans, and based on current work and trends in foot augmentation, we will formulate strategies for the next steps and discuss the applicability of such strategies in the broader space of human augmentation. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Planar/flat configurations of fixed-angle chains and trees are well studied in the context of polymer science, molecular biology, and puzzles. In this paper, we focus on a simple type of fixed-angle linkage: every edge has unit length (equilateral), and each joint has a fixed angle of 90° (orthogonal) or 180° (straight). When the linkage forms a path (open chain), it always has a planar configuration, namely the zig-zag which alternating the 90° angles between left and right turns. But when the linkage forms a cycle (closed chain), or is forced to lie in a box of fixed size, we prove that the flattening problem - deciding whether there is a planar noncrossing configuration - is strongly NP-complete. Back to open chains, we turn to the Hydrophobic- Hydrophilic (HP) model of protein folding, where each vertex is labeled H or P, and the goal is to find a folding that maximizes the number of H-H adjacencies. In the well-studied HP model, the joint angles are not fixed. We introduce and analyze the fixed-angle HP model, which is motivated by real-world proteins. We prove strong NP-completeness of finding a planar noncrossing configuration of a fixed-angle orthogonal equilateral open chain with the most H-H adjacencies, even if the chain has only two H vertices. An autonomous mobile robot system is a distributed system consisting of mobile computational entities (called robots) that autonomously and repeatedly perform three operations: Look, Compute, and Move. Various problems related to autonomous mobile robots, such as gathering, pattern formation, or flocking, have been extensively studied to understand the relationship between each robot’s capabilities and the solvability of these problems. In this study, we focus on the complete visibility problem, which involves relocating all the robots on an infinite grid plane such that each robot is visible to every other robot. We assume that each robot is a luminous robot (i.e., has a light with a constant number of colors) and opaque (not transparent). In this paper, we propose an algorithm to achieve complete visibility when a set of robots is given. The algorithm ensures that complete visibility is achieved even when robots operate asynchronously and have no knowledge of the total number of robots on the grid plane using only two colors. © 2023, CC0.

Heterogeneous Graph Neural Networks (HGNNs) aim to embed rich structural and semantic information of heterogeneous graphs into low-dimensional node representations. While HGNNs extend the foundational work of homogeneous Graph Neural Networks, the methodology for effectively transforming heterogeneous graphs into homogeneous graphs and then learning node representations remains under-explored. In this paper, we propose a novel heterogeneous graph embedding method via the Homogeneous Graph Extraction strategy, termed HGE. Specifically, the proposed method ingeniously harnesses information clusters and metapaths to extract tailored homogeneous graphs from the complex heterogeneous graph. Subsequently, these distilled homogeneous graphs are fed into a weight-shared homogeneous graph encoder to obtain embeddings with diverse semantic information. Finally, we employ an attention mechanism, which adeptly fuses embeddings derived from distinct homogeneous graphs, resulting in the more expressive capability of the nodes. The effectiveness of the proposed architecture was demonstrated through experiments on three real heterogeneous graph datasets.

IoT applications often rely on battery-powered nodes that may be challenging to recharge, making energy efficiency a crucial concern. In this context, routing protocols play a vital role as they dictate the paths data packets take between nodes, directly influencing the energy consumption of IoT networks. Energy-aware routing protocols have been proposed to address this issue, with the aim of optimizing energy consumption by selecting paths that minimize the energy required for data transmission and reception. These protocols employ various strategies, such as distance-based, traffic-based, and hybrid schemes, to achieve energy efficiency in IoT networks. LoRaWAnprotocol has been adopted for various IoT applications with requirements in low-power and extended coverage. Over the recent years attempts have been made to replace the typical star topology employed by LoRa with multihop solutions, in an effort to further increase its capabilities. In this paper, we present a multihop algorithm that is based on an energy-balanced routing scheme adopted by LoRa nodes to increase energy efficiency and network lifetime. Multiple one-hop routes are configured for critical nodes and a different route is selected in each transmission. Additionally, critical nodes adjust their Spreading Factor and Transmission Power according to the distance of intermediate nodes. Simulation testing results verify the improved performance of our algorithm over the direct link approach.

A serious risk to genuine organization demands is a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. The main DDoS attack was archived in 1996, however, from that point forward, their intricacy and refinement have consistently expanded. A 2 TBps attack on a crucial foundation, including the monetary area, was accounted for in August 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. In the accompanying two years, it is anticipated that the number of attacks would twofold, stretching around 15 million. Since its beginning, many relief plans have been made, however, the intricacy is rising, requiring modern arrangements in view of new innovation. A potential and common-sense method for DDoS relief is blockchain. The point of the review is to give an exhaustive examination of the fundamental and intrinsic properties of blockchain, including their decentralization, inside and outer trust lessness, unchanging nature, honesty, obscurity, and evidence, which have demonstrated to be a fantastic contender for battling this destructive cyber threat. © 2023 IEEE.

The most common cause of blindness among diabetics is diabetic retinopathy. This disease must be detected in its early stages as delaying treatment can result in permanent blindness. In today’s modern world with the development of technologies, automated techniques have improved the accuracy and efficiency of detecting and classifying this disease. This study suggests a deep learning model utilizing EfficientNetB0 that focuses on designing a neural network structure that requires fewer parameters and computations compared to traditional architectures. Further to help in increasing the accuracy, the image is being processed with methods like CLAHE which is an image processing algorithm that helps in enhancing the contrast while keeping the noise of the images as low as possible. Also, augmentation is being done on the images and SMOTE is applied to handle class imbalance. We collected the APTOS Blindness Detection dataset consisting of retinal fundus images. The accuracy that is being obtained from the proposed methodology is 98.78% indicating the model's effectiveness in detection and classifying between the various stages of diabetic retinopathy.
