Aspect-based sentiment analysis in MOOCs: a systematic literature review introducing the MASC-MEF framework

Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) in massive open online courses (MOOCs) offers a powerful tool to understand student experiences and improve the quality of online education. As MOOCs grow in popularity, there is an increasing need to analyze student feedback at a granular level, focusing on specific course aspects rather than just overall sentiment. Despite ABSA’s potential in MOOCs, research in this specific domain remains limited. Thus, this review of the literature seeks to fill this gap by systematically examining ABSA within the realm of MOOCs. We utilized a PRISMA framework to guide the search process. Consequently, this review covered 57 studies conducted between 2019 and 2024, retrieved from eight electronic research databases. The studies included in this analysis were examined on the basis of their datasets, data preprocessing, ABSA tasks in MOOCs, evaluation aspects in online courses, fusion approach in ABSA, techniques of word representations, and evaluation criteria utilized to evaluate the proposed models. Additionally, this review introduces the multiaspect sentiment classification using multiembedding and fusion (MASC-MEF) framework, a novel approach that uniquely incorporates multiword embeddings and multifeature extraction along with advanced classification techniques. Results shed light on several critical issues and various limitations, pointing towards future directions for ABSA research within the realm of MOOCs. This review underscores significant contributions to improving ABSA in educational technology, with a focus on course effectiveness and advancements in online learning, guiding researchers towards innovative techniques to tackle this challenge in the future. © The Author(s) 2025.

The modern smart grid leverages advanced technologies to enhance electricity distribution's efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, enabling two-way energy and data exchange. This systematic literature review (SLR) explores how artificial intelligence (AI) addresses the challenge of smart grid stability. From 1,181 records identified via Scopus and Web of Science, 41 studies were analyzed in-depth. The SLR evaluates AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, hierarchical clustering, and explainable AI across functions like fault detection, stability analysis, energy forecasting, and demand response. Findings reveal AI's role in enhancing grid stability through predictive capabilities and adaptive controls. This study contributes a taxonomy of AI applications, identifies research gaps, and outlines a future research direction. Key challenges include scalability, data privacy, and model interpretability, while opportunities lie in hybrid models, and integration with blockchain and IoT. The study provides actionable insights for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders.

Integrating machine learning and experimental data in modeling optical behaviors of neodymium oxide nanoparticle-doped glasses

Zinc tellurite doped with neodymium oxide nanoparticles (Nd2O3 NPs) glass series has been fabricated using conventional melt-quenching technique to explore the respective optical, structural, and physical properties of the glass material. Fourier-transform infra-red (FTIR) spectra and the respective deconvolution revealed changes in the amount of TeO3 and TeO4 structural units related to the concentration of neodymium oxide nanoparticles, which directly influences the amount of bridging oxygen and non-bridging oxygen in the glass system. The density of the prepared glasses possesses increasing trend with values that rose from 5346 to 5606 kg m−3 as more Nd2O3 NPs are incorporated in the glass matrix. The parameters for optical properties have also been determined, assisted and trained the chosen model in order to predict the data for optical properties of glass material with different chemical compositions via the machine learning approach. To enhance the experimental results, machine learning models were developed using linear regression (LR) and artificial neural networks (ANN). ANN model with its ability to capture both linear as well as non-linear interactions has outperformed the simulation and LR model as the ANN model had managed to accurately predict the values for the optical properties of glass material based on the compositional parameters. This underscores the effectiveness of ANN in modeling having intricate relationships between dopant concentrations and optical behaviors while at the same time providing critical insights for future advancements in doped glass technology.

Age estimation using forensics odontology is an important process in identifying victims in criminal or mass disaster ***,this process is done manually by human ***,the speed and accuracy may vary depending on the expertise level of the human expert and other human factors such as level of fatigue and *** improve the recognition speed and consistency,researchers have proposed automated age estimation using deep learning techniques such as Convolutional Neural Network(CNN).CNN requires many training images to obtain high percentage of recognition ***,it is very difficult to get large number of samples of dental images for training the CNN due to the need to comply to privacy acts.A promising solution to this problem is a technique called Generative Adversarial Network(GAN).GAN is a technique that can generate synthetic images that has similar statistics as the training set.A variation of GAN called Conditional GAN(CGAN)enables the generation of the synthetic images to be controlled more precisely such that only the specified type of images will be *** paper proposes a CGAN for generating new dental images to increase the number of images available for training a CNN model to perform age *** also propose a pseudolabelling technique to label the generated images with proper age and *** used the combination of real and generated images to trainDentalAge and Sex Net(DASNET),which is a CNN model for dental age *** on the experiment conducted,the accuracy,coefficient of determination(R2)and Absolute Error(AE)of DASNET have improved to 87%,0.85 and 1.18 years respectively as opposed to 74%,0.72 and 3.45 years when DASNET is trained using real,but smaller number of images.

A survey by Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has shown that Internet users in Malaysia has increased up to 88.7% in year 2020 compared to 76.9% in year 2016 which is quite high increase in percentage. The pervasive use of smartphones and computers nowadays as well as the availability of high-speed Internet access has brought a new way of promoting products. E-commerce is a buy and sell system that can be accessed globally around the world. This system can provide efficient strategies for promoting products and services. It is widely agreed that even small enhancements in promotion techniques can increase the profitability of any e-commerce system. In this paper, a research has been conducted to study methods to enhance product promotion among Malaysians. The study investigates through a survey the factors affecting users' WTP (willing-to-pay) during performing e-commerce transaction as well as factors what attract/repel them more. To achieve the study aim, a group of 385 respondents throughout Malaysia have been involved in this research through questionnaire study. Detailed analysis has been introduced to clarify the results. The study has identified the top e-commerce platforms that are used by Malaysians to execute product promotion. The results show that promotion through e-commerce platforms could increase profitability and help businesses to expand rapidly. This is due to the fast market penetration of online promoting compared to conventional one. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a brief review on smart grids. Environmental destruction that is marked by high CO2 level or green-house gas emissions due to excessive use of fossil fuels is a serious challenge that must be minimized immediately. One of the most prominent impact is the destruction of natural ecosystems such as forest fires due to very high temperature, rising sea level, flash flood, melting of iceberg in the north and south poles and uncertain natural climates. From the energy sec-tor that contribute most to global warming is the power generation sector. Currently there are still many power plants that use fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal as the main source of turbine drive in generating electrical energy. Renewable energy is capable of generating electrical energy without generating and increasing greenhouse gases. Current renewable energy utilization trends continue to increase which contributes to the birth of the smart grid concept. Current electricity transmission and distribution networks can be categorized as conventional electricity networks because they have not been able to provide excellent service and present real-time data. This network has not been able to provide reliability, safety and efficiency in supplying electrical energy even not yet have the flexibility to be integrated with the generation of renewable energy or microgrid. So the introduction of smart grid technology is a necessity to reduce the impact of global warming while encouraging efficiency, reliability and effective governance in the supply of electrical energy. © 2020 IEEE.

Smart grids facilitate the use of distributed and renewable resources on the supply side and providing consumers with a range of tailored services on the consumption side. The introduction of energy smart grid in Malaysia allows other stakeholders to reap the potential benefits it offers. However, for the stakeholders to share knowledge and collaborate, a common language that can act as intermediary that allows any application to communicate with each other is needed. Ontologies have been successful in integrating the knowledge required for solving complex problems such as energy management problems. Ontology has become a promising future direction towards devising a context-aware middleware platform for the smart grid. Hence, we propose to develop ontology for energy smart grid to support information integration for existing smart grid applications and to produce an efficient, semantically aware and operationally accurate software environment for managing flexibility in Malaysian energy distribution networks. © 2020 IEEE.

There are numerous automatic speech recognition applications available in market, but these applications are quite challenging to be used for individual with speech disability. Due to this demand, SPEESH, a speech recognition system is developed for individuals with dysarthria disorders. The main objective of this project is to study the requirement of proposed system and characteristics of individuals with dysarthria. Interview with speech therapists in Malaysia has been conducted on the phone to elicit the requirements for the system. Based on the interview, we acquired numerous common words that are used by dysarthric patients. These findings are crucial in designing the application to ease the user's experience. The system consists of two phases on how it works;text dependent and text independent. First, in a text dependent phase, the system will learn to recognize specific words from the speaker and register them into database. In the next phase, speaker model will now consist characteristics of voice of the person and it can identify what one is saying. SPEESH application have been designed to be able to translate words from individuals with dysarthria or any speech disorders. All the functionalities and features are all developed in a way such that SPEESH will work as a communication platform between dysarthria individuals and their surroundings. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As of recent practice, the majority of current parking systems are still implementing the same traditional method of giving entry to parking visitors which is by giving out a physical ticket. This has caused several problems for mall visitors. Therefore, it is planned to propose a system that can eliminate the problems and provide further improvement to the current systems. Our proposed system named PARKEY is a Ticket-less Parking System that has been designed to provide a new method of parking entry and exiting while implementing new features in the parking system. The objective of the project is to provide a working ticket-less entry and exit system by using a virtual ticket with the help of image recognition technology. With the proposed system being developed, it will help to solve problems that are present in the current systems and give an implementation of a parking system that is up to par with the current standard of technology. Before the system was developed, interviews, observation, and requirement reuse were used as methods to elicit requirements that will provide useful insights for the development of the system. Malaysian Sign language is the primary means of communication among the deaf-mute community in Malaysia for many years since it was first created in 1998 when the Malaysian Federation of Deaf was first established. Although Malaysian Sign Language is widely used among the deaf-mute community, hearing individuals often have little or no exposure to the usage of sign language due to the lack of pervasive environment for the usage of sign language. There is also a lack of effective mobile learning application that encourages and facilitates the learning of sign language. This creates a communication gap among the deaf-mute community and the hearing individuals. The objective of the project is to design a mobile application that can facilitate the learning of sign language and ultimately bridging the gap between deaf-mute communities and hearing individuals. A survey was carried out to elicit the requirements of potential users. The sample population was drawn from Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIMMFD) Facebook group and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) students. The questionnaire consists of multiple-choice questions, open-ended question and dichotomous questions which can be logically divided into demographic questions, questions on the experience of a participant on sign language, preferred learning methods and the preferred features of the application. The findings show that there is a need for an effective and interactive mobile application for learning sign language. Most of the respondents agreed that video tutorials are their preferred learning method as it is more dynamic than learning via images or books. A majority of the respondents also have no experience in using a sign language learning application due to the lack of availability on the market. Moreover, most of the participants also show interest in using a mobile application in learning Malaysian Sign Language. Some respondents also requested the feature of a built-in dictionary.
