This working-in-progress paper aims to present a three-dimensional reconstruction using aerial images in different environments. The experiments were conducted with aircraft in both external and internal settings, starting with image acquisition, followed by the application of specific photogrammetry software—both commercial and open-source—and concluding with a qualitative evaluation of the results.

The electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) has been used in various clinical studies and has become a key physiological signal for cochlear implants (CI). This study used four sensing electrodes to record ECAP signals based on the alternating polarity approach. An electrical field imaging (EFI) result based on the finite element method was used to obtain the interface impedance, then ECAP simulation results were computed and compared with a patient's clinical ECAP measurements. Preliminary modeling results show that the interface impedance obtained by this EFI-based technique can improve the simulation accuracy of the ECAP model. The ECAP modeling result will be compared with clinical ECAP measurements to validate the model in the full paper.

Free market stipulated organizations to improve quality and competitiveness. To achieve this improvement, companies had to implement Total Quality Management so that the vision and mission of companies as one of the main competing factors in the free market were achieved. Many companies had problems in measuring and implementing the organizational performance and Total Quality Management because it needed enough budgets so that a system was needed to measure this organizational performance. The objective of this study was (1) to measure the organizational performance, (2) to measure the implementation of Total Quality Management, and (3) to measure the organizational culture by using Knowledge Management System (KMS)-based approach at Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The advantage of this study was to provide the best recommendations for companies. To develop this system, the writers conducted surveys to several MSMEs, invited experts and practitioners to acquire the knowledge, and carried out the literature study to obtain the recommendation about the best organizational culture at MSMEs. This study developed software used to measure the organizational performance, Total Quality Management, and organizational culture is seen from the Knowledge Management System (KMS) principles. The developed software had been examined to several companies and MSMEs with a very high level of accuracy in giving a recommendation. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Among the main techniques for detecting and classifying partial discharges in high-voltage equipment currently studied, the radiometric method stands out, based on the application of UHF sensors. However, using UHF sensors for partial discharge detection requires the use of sophisticated acquisition systems, meaning robust systems with high sampling rates and processing capacity. In this context, the use of VHF sensors for partial discharge detection and classification shows great promise. Utilizing a frequency range lower than UHF allows for a decrease in the resources required for detection and processing of the electromagnetic signals produced by partial discharges. This study evaluates the application of VHF sensors for partial discharge detection in high-voltage equipment, aiming to reduce the acquisition and processing requirements necessary for partial discharge monitoring.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the disinfection effect of Near-UV LED light, which is pulsed using PWM control, on Staphylococcus aureus. To evaluate the disinfection effect of Near-UV LED light, three types of Near-UV LEDs with wavelengths of 395 nm, 385 nm, and 365 nm were installed within a sealed space inside an incubator and energized with a forward current of 1000 mA and a forward voltage of 3.6 V, and the disinfection rate under each type of light was assessed. Additionally, the disinfection effect was evaluated when the same three types of Near-UV LEDs were pulsed with a 50% duty cycle. As a result, 100% disinfection was achieved with 365 nm Near-UV LED direct-current irradiation for 120 seconds, and a 93% disinfection rate was obtained with pulsed irradiation for 150 seconds.

This study presents a novel approach to human keypoint detection in low-resolution thermal images using transfer learning techniques. We introduce the first application of the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test in thermal image computer vision, establishing a new paradigm for mobility assessment. Our method leverages a MobileNetV3-Small encoder and a ViTPose decoder, trained using a composite loss function that balances latent representation alignment and heatmap accuracy. The model was evaluated using the Object Keypoint Similarity (OKS) metric from the COCO Keypoint Detection Challenge. The proposed model achieves better performance with AP, AP50, and AP75 scores of 0.861, 0.942, and 0.887 respectively, outperforming traditional supervised learning approaches like Mask R-CNN and ViTPose-Base. Moreover, our model demonstrates superior computational efficiency in terms of parameter count and FLOPS. This research lays a solid foundation for future clinical applications of thermal imaging in mobility assessment and rehabilitation monitoring. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Goal-oriented inference of environment from redundant observations

The agent learns to organize decision behavior to achieve a behavioral goal, such as reward maximization, and reinforcement learning is often used for this optimization. Learning an optimal behavioral strategy is difficult under the uncertainty that events necessary for learning are only partially observable, called as Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP). However, the real-world environment also gives many events irrelevant to reward delivery and an optimal behavioral strategy. The conventional methods in POMDP, which attempt to infer transition rules among the entire observations, including irrelevant states, are ineffective in such an environment. Supposing Redundantly Observable Markov Decision Process (ROMDP), here we propose a method for goal-oriented reinforcement learning to efficiently learn state transition rules among reward-related"core states" from redundant observations. Starting with a small number of initial core states, our model gradually adds new core states to the transition diagram until it achieves an optimal behavioral strategy consistent with the Bellman equation. We demonstrate that the resultant inference model outperforms the conventional method for POMDP. We emphasize that our model only containing the core states has high explainability. Furthermore, the proposed method suits online learning as it suppresses memory consumption and improves learning speed. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recently, volumetric video coding based on neural radiance fields has gained significant attention for storing and transmitting three-dimensional (3D) scenes captured from multi-view video. Because the neural networks are trained to produce novel view synthesis of surrounding 3D scenes, compressing the model and then rendering the colors and geometry through the decompressed model can be utilized as a 3D video coding system. However, although this approach provides superior performance compared to conventional 3D video coding standards using depth video, challenges remain in reducing overall model sizes to improve coding efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic volumetric video coding technique that employs a Group of Volume (GoV) to divide multi-view video sequences into smaller chunks, addressing complex temporal dynamics. Our method uses volumetric video features represented with 3D spatial and temporal tensor matrices and vectors and encodes them with the GoVs. The tensors are compressed by existing 2D video codec, allowing for fast rendering and easing deployment. Experimental results validate that our method not only reduces memory footprint but also maintains high-quality rendering as compared to state-of-the-art studies.

Data Alignment Design for Robotic programming by Demonstration Based on IMU and Optical Tracker

This study proposes a data alignment design for sensor fusion of an optical target (OT) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to track the trajectory of a handheld tool for robot programming by demonstration (PbD). A novel method is proposed for coordinate and temporal alignment between the OT and the IMU sensor to increase tracking accuracy. The IMU measurements are aligned with the corresponding angular velocities and accelerations derived from the OT to calibrate the IMU-OT relationship. Global and local optimizations are combined to reduce the computation time for the temporal alignment and coordinate calibration. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides improved calibration results with shorter calculation time compared with the two existing methods. The sensor fusion experiments verify the accuracy of trajectory tracking of 1.3 mm using the calibration result, an improvement from 1.4 mm of the data alignment using ruler measurement. Integrated PbD experiments using a 6-DOF manipulator were carried out to evaluate the proposed method. The manipulator imitated the hand motion of a bottle transfer task with a trajectory error of 0.66 mm. Practical robotic experiments demonstrate that the method is suitable for robot programming applications. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Nearly two billion air-conditioning (AC) units are currently being used for space cooling worldwide. The majority of these ACs use R134a as the working fluid, a greenhouse gas (GHG) with a global warming potential (GWP) of 1300 kg-CO2-eq. According to the rules set by the world environment safety organizations, the GWP of domestic air-conditioning systems must not exceed 750 kg-CO2-eq. Hence, the R134a must be phased out by 2025, and an alternative refrigerant with similar thermodynamic properties yet low GWP is required. Therefore, the authors have investigated several potential binary/ternary refrigerant blends in this study. Among the studied refrigerants, R445A, R30A, and NPB2 (newly proposed blend: 8% R152a + 92% R1234yf) can reduce 90–99% global warming impact (more than 200 million tonnes of CO2 emission equivalent) caused by the domestic air-conditioning systems every year. © 2023, The Institution of Engineers (India).
