Matrix-pattern-oriented Ho-Kashyap classifier has been demonstrated to have a superior classification performance to its vector classifier. However, it is found that the matrixized classifier takes a large computational complexity for convergence in some cases. To overcome the disadvantage, this paper introduces the early stopping technique into the matrixized Ho-Kashyap classifier and presents a matrix-pattern-oriented Ho-Kashyap classifier with early stopping named MatHKES. The presented MatHKES adopts early stopping as a new regularization technique instead of adding a regularization parameter in the criterion. The proposed algorithm achieves: 1) a less running time; 2) a competitive or better classification performance; 3) an avoidance of over fitting in training.

During gene expression, transcription factors are unable to bind to a transcription binding site (TFBS) involved in regulation if DNA methylation has occurred at the TFBS. Methyl-CpG-binding proteins may also occupy the TFBS and prevent the functioning of a transcription factor. Thus, the methylation status of CpG sites is an important issue when trying to understand gene regulation and shows strong correlation with the TFBS involved. In addition, CpG islands would seem to undergo cell-specific and tissue-specific methylation. Such differential methylation is presented at numerous genetic loci that are essential for development. Current DNA methylation site prediction tools need to be improved so that they include TFBS features and have greater accuracy in terms of the DNA region that is involved in methylation. We developed models that compare the differences across these regions and tissues. The TFBSs, DNA properties and DNA distribution were used as features for this classification. From the results, we found some TFBSs that were able to discriminate whether a sequence was methylated or not. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy estimated using 10-fold cross validation were 90.8%, 80.54%, and 86.07%, respectively. Thus, for these four regions and twelve tissues, the performance levels (ACC) were all greater than 80%. We propose that the differential features or methylations vary between the different regions because the features common to each DNA region made up only 50% of the top 70 features. Electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information technology (IT) hold unrealized potential for improving the quality, continuity, and safety of medical care;they can also introduce new gaps in care and present unique challenges for healthcare workers. We conducted 14 key informant, semi-structured interviews at a large Veterans Affairs Medical Center and asked healthcare employees why paper use persists despite a fully implemented EHR. In this investigation, we performed a secondary analysis on interview data to identify characteristics of information technology (IT) that are important to support healthcare workflow. As a result of this study, 17 distinct information characteristics emerged;in this document, we provide detail on five characteristics that were often cited as desirable for workflow but insufficiently supported by health IT: 1) customizable, 2) prioritized, 3) trendable, 4) locatable, and 5) accessible. Results from this study reveal key electronic information characteristics for healthcare workflow and have implications for patient safety and future health IT designs.

A parallel optimization model for massive data stream application

While computing is entering a new phase in which CPU improvements are driven by the addition of multiple cores on a single chip, rather than higher frequencies. Parallel processing on these systems is in a primitive stage, and requires the explicit use and knowledge of underlying thread architecture. Based on the features of massive data stream application, this paper proposes three-level pipelining programming model of multithreading system, which realizes the new synchronization mechanism with no contention of shared structures and is capable to provide differential service for data streams. Then the paper applies the new model to remote sensing information processing system and backbone network intrusion detection system, and evaluates the improved system on several multicore platforms. In performance analysis, the optimized effects of backbone network intrusion detection system are evaluated in several aspects of throughput scalability on both SPARC T1 and x86 platforms, the impacts of different multithreading mapping methods on throughput, and the comparison of response time and service quality before and after optimization. The experimental results show that the system throughput has good scalability on both platforms, the values of response time are greatly improved and the prioritized streams achieve better response time with the differential service mechanism. © by institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Study on user's identification system in insider threats

Monitoring user's abnormal behaviors, which is an effective method to detect impersonation, is used for impersonation detection in insider threats. A model is built by using TAN-based Bayesian network to reflect the characteristics of user's behavior. When the deviation from the model is found, the system can determine the identity of the user. As a result, experiments show that the monitoring numbers of processes called by users can be very effective on detecting impersonation and can identify the identity of the attacker.

Nowadays complex information system's integrated formal models of function verification and performance evaluation lack properties constraint about space aspect. This paper presents an integrated verification model atsFPM by defining a space requirement function over the states of the considered information system. The patterns of paths which are based on regular expressions is proposed in order to specify the functional specifications. The syntax and semantic of the model atsFPM is defined. A conversion product model is obtained by the combination of the system model and the automaton of the pattern of paths which expresses the functional specifications. The verification of the model atsFPM is tackled by the performance verification technique of Markov Reward Model. Experimental results show that the atsFPM model and its verification approach can satisfy the modeling of information system and verification of functional and performance specifications.

Entering the 21st century, the aging process and increasing chronic diseases in Taiwan society have become more prevalent. To deal with the problem, we develop a ubiquitous healthcare (u-Health) system platform that integrates wireless telecommunication, sensor network, and information technology to take care of patients having chronic diseases. The u-Health system provides not only telecare at home setting, but also a health community network which can further integrate medical care and life care and emphasize on patent humanity and dignity. For this purpose, a holistic u-Health system focusing on the physiological, psychosocial, arts, recreational, and even spiritual aspects of patients was implemented for people living in the community. In this study, we applied our community based u-Health system to the current and retired employees of National Taiwan University (NTU) who had at least one of the following chronic diseases: hypertension, diabetes mellitus and obesity, and required long term follow up and treatment. A community medical group (CMG) which is formed with family doctors from the Family Medicine Department of NTU Hospital, the Yung-Ho Branch of Cardinal Tien Hospital, NTU Health Center, and several other local clinics in Taipei City was in charge of the medical care along with a dedicated case managing nurse for the medical care at outpatient clinics, home telecare and 24-hour health consultation. Using this integrated community-based system is expected to provide a comprehensive and ubiquitous healthcare and eventually improve the quality of care by increasing compliance and reducing the complications of chronic diseases.

Optimization dynamics evaluation mode for particle swarm algorithm

Based on the fundamental evaluation index system of intelligent optimization, a type of optimization dynamics evaluation mode for particle swarm algorithm is presented here. The mode is used for general optimization performance and particles'population dynamics. In the evaluation mode, primary indexes include optimum value, population dynamic aggregation, population center convergence and population diversity. Numerical optimization simulation based on several benchmarks is studied, and the typical population dynamic results of primary indexes show that the proposed optimization dynamics evaluation mode is effective.

We present a general framework for a higher-order spline level-set （HLS） method and apply this to biomolecule surfaces construction. Starting from a first order energy functional, we obtain a general level set formulation of geometric partial differential equation, and provide an efficient approach to solving this partial differential equation using a C2 spline basis. We also present a fast cubic spline interpolation algorithm based on convolution and the Z-transform, which exploits the local relationship of interpolatory cubic spline coefficients with respect to given function data values. In this paper, we proposed an approach for detecting feature points as regards natural-based images, that is, delicate and smoothing rather than artificial image. Our feature point detector is technique using symmetrically covariant of the gradient for neighboring points in contrast with using corner value for detecting feature points. The methods of our detector shows good performance in accuracy of detection about transform of gaussian noise, scale, rotation and translations, and etc.
