Faced with the challenge of finding ways to use an evergrowing transistor budget, microarchitects have begun to move towards the chip multiprocessors (CMPs) as an attractive solution. CMPs have become a common way of reducing chip complexity and power consumption while maintaining high performance. Multiple cores are replicated on a single chip, resulting in a potential linear scaling of performance. Cores are becoming sufficiently small with technology scaling. As technology continues to scale, inter-die and intra-die variations in process parameters can result in significant impact on performance and power consumption, leading to asymmetry among the cores that were designed to be symmetric. Adaptive voltage scaling can be used to bring all cores to the same performance level leaving only core-to-core power variations. The goal of our work is to find the optimal frequency that balances performance with power against asymmetry. We also demonstrate that traditional task scheduling techniques need to be revisited to mitigate the effects of process variations. Copyright 2008 ACM.

The theory of concept lattices is an efficient tool for knowledge representation and knowledge discovery, and is applied to many fields successfully. One focus of knowledge discovery is knowledge reduction. Based on the reduction theory of classical formal context, this paper proposes the definition of decision formal context and its reduction theory, which extends the reduction theory of concept lattices. In this paper, strong consistence and weak consistence of decision formal context are defined respectively. For strongly consistent decision formal context, the judgment theorems of consistent sets are examined, and approaches to reduction are given. For weakly consistent decision formal context, implication mapping is defined, and its reduction is studied. Finally, the relation between reducts of weakly consistent decision formal context and reducts of implication mapping is discussed.

Electronic health record (EHR) systems and health informationtechnology (IT) hold unrealized potential for improving the quality, continuity, and safety of medical care; they can also introduce new gaps in care and present unique challenges for healthcare workers. We conducted 14 key informant, semi-structured interviews at a large Veterans Affairs Medical Center and asked healthcare employees why paper use persists despite a fully implemented EHR. In this investigation, we performed a secondary analysis on interview data to identify characteristics of informationtechnology (IT) that are important to support healthcare workflow. As a result of this study, 17 distinct information characteristics emerged; in this document, we provide detail on five characteristics that were often cited as desirable for workflow but insufficiently supported by health IT: 1) customizable, 2) prioritized, 3) trendable, 4) locatable, and 5) accessible. Results from this study reveal key electronic information characteristics for healthcare workflow and have implications for patient safety and future health IT designs.

A laboratory experiment on internal solitary wave propagation over a submarine ridge was performed. Analytical methods, binary and cumulative logistic regression model included, were appropriately employed to analyze amplitude-based transmission rate, defined as ratio of incident wave amplitude and transmission wave amplitude. We concluded that the prediction comprehension by the cumulative logistic regression model was better than the binary logistic regression model. Furthermore, the binary logistics is more stable and suitable to describe the characteristics of samples.

Recently, as more and more applications of peer-to-peer network (P2P network) appeared on file sharing and information retrieving, many researchers made great efforts in studying its search mechanism and algorithm design. In this paper, we establish a novel Differential Coefficient Dynamics Model of file transmission in P2P network using system dynamics method based on dynamics characteristics of P2P network. The threshold value of a certain file in P2P network transmission is calculated. We also analyze the influence of some important parameters to the file transmission, such as locate successful rate among servents, entering and withdrawing rate of servents and forget rate of servents.
