This work proposes a simple and effective strategy for photon clustering, called regional photon clustering, to accelerate the global illumination updating of dynamic scenes. This method can cluster various numbers of photons adaptively. The scenes in adjacent frames are similar, and so most photons have the same moving paths in adjacent frames. Therefore, most photons do not need to be shot again in the next frame. Regional photon clustering employs a quadtree structure to track the trajectory of dynamic objects to reduce the number of re-shot photons. Experimental results show that regional photon clustering reduces the number of re-shot photons, and accelerates the estimation of global illumination in dynamic scenes

The paper studies the tomography reconstruction of the intra-lipid phantom measured with near infrared (NIR) light (800 nm) using a tomographic scanning device in the DC domain, where the homogenous intra-lipid phantom as the normal tissue is inserted with another different volume density one as a tumor. In our research, the instrument of continuous wave as implied by the name employs continuous-wave light as a light source where the measurement of emerging light can yield the wavelength dependent attenuation. With comparing the difference between the homogeneous and the heterogeneous phantoms, 1-D signal measurement indicates the angular position of the inclusion. Following the measuring procedure, the numerical simulation to reconstruct tomographic images of optical properties was performed using 16 by 16 sources/detectors combination and the initial guess with a homogenous background for all cases where the finite element (FE) analysis was implemented. With the use of real measured data, promising results of tomographic absorption and diffusive image are successfully reconstructed

Hexagonal structure is different from the traditional square structure for image representation. The geometrical arrangement of pixels on hexagonal structure can be described in terms of a hexagonal grid. Uniformly separating image into seven similar copies with a smaller scale has commonly been used for parallel and accurate image processing on hexagonal structure. However, all the existing hardware for capturing image and for displaying image are produced based on square architecture. It has become a serious problem affecting the advanced research based on hexagonal structure. Furthermore, the current techniques used for uniform separation of images on hexagonal structure do not coincide with the rectangular shape of images. This has been an obstacle in the use of hexagonal structure for image processing. In this paper, we briefly review a newly developed virtual hexagonal structure that is scalable. Based on this virtual structure, algorithms for uniform image separation are presented. The virtual hexagonal structure retains image resolution during the process of image separation, and does not introduce distortion. In this paper, we propose a bidirectional buffer repeater insertion to reduce the RLC tree delay in multi-source multi-sink systems which involve four significant factors in our works. First, inductance effect is taken into account due to the reason that chip sizes with the exponential reduction and high work frequency. Second, bidirectional buffer repeater could improve interconnect delay more than unidirectional buffer insertion. Third, the location of insertion buffer is also considered in our work. Fourth, more than one buffer could be inserted in critical path while buffers have already existed. Finally, we develop a graphical user interface for designers to estimate the delay with bidirectional buffer repeater insertion target multi-source multi-sink systems. Experiment results shown that the reduced delay rate is 50.73% and 64.47% in 0.18 and 0.35 micron fabrication process, respectively

Most digital content and most digital libraries are mainly concerned with artefacts rather than the craft in making them or the skill in using these artefacts. The same concerns manifested in hospital and childcare standard operation procedures (SOPs). The motivation for this project is based on several observations. First, informationtechnology and digital libraries are convenient and efficient virtual environments for teaching and learning. In addition, they can be built to the Internet. Second, students in universities expect state-of-the art learning resources from the Web. Third, life-long learning is becoming increasingly important worldwide. Fourth, housewives who intend to be child caregivers will particularly benefit from E-learning materials. Finally, E-learning with interactive videos provides more learner satisfaction than non-interactive and traditional classroom learning. In this paper, an application of online learning in child caregiver training is presented with step-by-step interactive videos that can be used for education of child caregivers. Metadata compatible with the Dublin core are used for recording the individual steps of SOPs. By analyzing and comparing the test scores using t-test, it was found that the system provides a more effective method than the non-interactive or traditional classroom learning (p<0.05). Additionally, analysis of the questionnaires shows that interactive video learning provides more learner satisfaction with Cronbach α measure of 0.766. In conclusion, the system implements a website of childcare SOP and supports an interactive online learning environment for practicing childcare skills. In the future, large-scale investigation and evaluation with more learners will be done for exploring the drawbacks and advantages of interactive learning.

The openness of Internet offers great convenience of information sharing and exchange, accompanied with crucial challenges to information Security. As a kind of active measure of information Assurance, Intrusion Detection acts as the effective complement to traditional protection techniques. On the base of analyzing KMP algorithm and BM algorithm, which are fashionable pattern matching algorithms in intrusion detection system at present, the author gives an new pattern matching algorithm in place of the BM algorithm. The results show that the improved pattern matching algorithm has better efficiency and is helpful to reduce systematical missing package rate.

Hexagonal structure provides an easy way for image translation and rotation transformations. However, all the existing hardware for capturing image and for displaying image are produced based on square architecture. It has become a serious problem affecting the advanced research based on hexagonal structure. In this paper, we introduce a new virtual hexagonal structure. This paper presents a digital rights management model, which considers the integrated factors including legality, communication security, integrity of the content, and trading fairness. The architecture of the model, the necessary protocol for the copyright control and content distribution, the authentication mechanism which offer consumption registration for content fair distribution, of the model are all provided. The scheme also provides distribution and evidence for using the copyright of digital content fairly and effectively. Finally, analysis shows the proposed model has both high security and good performance.

Soft error tolerance is a hot research topic for modern microprocessors. We have been investigating soft error tolerance micro architecture, RED, which exploits time redundancy to achieve soft error tolerance without requiring prohibitive additional hardware resources. Unfortunately, our previous study unveiled that a RED-based processor suffers severe performance penalty. We guess that it comes from the reduction in effective instruction issue queue (ISQ) capacity. Since RED uses a register update unit (RUU), which combines an ISQ and a reorder buffer (ROB) into a single structure, redundant instructions occupy the ISQ. Actually, contemporary microprocessors use a dedicated ISQ, which is decoupled from the ROB rather than the RUU. In this paper, in order to reduce the performance penalty, we adopt RED into ROB-based microprocessors. We reduce the penalty from 17.4% to 12.4% and from 23.9% to 18.3% for integer and floating-point programs, respectively
