Big-data-driven vessel destination prediction for smart port management

The accurate prediction of vessel destinations is crucial for enhancing maritime traffic efficiency, optimizing port management, and improving regional economic analysis. However, destination information in Automatic Identification system (AIS) data is often missing or inaccurate, which undermines the reliability of maritime analytic. Traditional vessel destination prediction methods primarily focus on measuring trajectory similarities, which results in high computational complexity. This study develops a deep learning approach to vessel destination prediction by transforming the problem into an image classification task. Rasterized images of historical destination ports and vessel trajectories are generated, incorporating AIS data within a fixed spatial context. A multi-scale residual convolutional network is constructed to extract relevant trajectory and port distribution features. To enhance the representation of trajectory endpoints, which are critical for predicting the destination port, a multi-attention mechanism is introduced. This mechanism increases the learning weight assigned to endpoint features, improving prediction accuracy. Finally, a classification network predicts the destination port based on the extracted features. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using AIS data from the Denmark Strait. Experimental results demonstrate that the model outperforms existing methods, highlighting its potential for applications in smart port management and maritime traffic optimization. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

In order to solve the problem of track slab crack detection under few samples’ conditions, this paper proposes a track slab crack detection algorithm with few samples based on deep learning. Firstly, after extracting multi-scale query and support features through the Swin Transformer backbone, the similarity between query pixels and support pixels is computed according to the scaled dot-product attention of the Transformer architecture, and the query masks are aggregated; in order to filter a large amount of irrelevant background information in the crack image, multi-scale prototypes are computed by using prototypical learning, highlighting the class information of the cracks, and introducing a lightweight attention module to generate class-representative attention feature maps using support features at different scales, which guides the network to focus its attention on the target region; finally, the final prediction of cracks is realized by the feature fusion module. The experimental results show that the track slab crack IoU reaches 66.94% and the FB-IoU reaches 83.02% under the few samples’ condition and exhibits strong generalization performance on the crack set of other scenarios as well.

Optical speed sensors based on the spatial frequency filter method are a proven technology that offer high measurement accuracy over a wide speed range. Newly developed variants also enable measurements at very low speeds and increase the robustness of the method [1]. This makes the sensor very suitable for use in the area of functional safety. A measurement chain up to safety integrity level 3 (SIL3) should be feasible via a combination with a safety system on a chip (SoC) for evaluating the measurement data and an extension of the sensor module to include safety-related elements [2], [3]. By integrating the sensor at IC level, a compact overall solution is to be made possible. After the first successful tests with the safety SoC, further examinations of the measuring method with regard to functional safety are now necessary.

Existing face forgery detection usually follows the paradigm of training models in a single domain, which leads to limited generalization capacity when unseen scenarios and unknown attacks occur. In this paper, we elaborately investigate the generalization capacity of deepfake detection models when jointly trained on multiple face forgery detection datasets. We first find a rapid degradation of detection accuracy when models are directly trained on combined datasets due to the discrepancy across collection scenarios and generation methods. To address the above issue, a Generalized Multi-Scenario Deepfake Detection framework (GM-DF) is proposed to serve multiple real-world scenarios by a unified model. First, we propose a hybrid expert modeling approach for domain-specific real/forgery feature extraction. Besides, as for the commonality representation, we use CLIP to extract the common features for better aligning visual and textual features across domains. Meanwhile, we introduce a masked image reconstruction mechanism to force models to capture rich forged details. Finally, we supervise the models via a domain-aware meta-learning strategy to further enhance their generalization capacities. Specifically, we design a novel domain alignment loss to strongly align the distributions of the meta-test domains and meta-train domains. Thus, the updated models are able to represent both specific and common real/forgery features across multiple datasets. In consideration of the lack of study of multi-dataset training, we establish a new benchmark leveraging multi-source data to fairly evaluate the models' generalization capacity on unseen scenarios. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments on five datasets conducted on traditional protocols as well as the proposed benchmark demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. Microgrid is an important part of smart grid, and self-healing is a key feature of smart grid. The purpose of this paper is to combine the particle swarm optimization algorithm and the binary particle swarm optimization algorithm to study the self-healing control of the distributed power supply in the microgrid. Can be used to solve nonlinear multi-objective optimization problems with continuous and discrete variables. At the same time, considering the load shedding effects of fault recovery, switch opening and closing times, active and reactive power losses, node voltage drift, distributed generator performance, etc., it becomes a nonlinear, multi-objective function involving continuous or discrete variables.. After the optimal operation of the traditional microgrid system, the power factor and line loss cannot reach the optimal state. The line loss of microgrid 1 is 0.71, the power factor is 0.88, the line loss of microgrid 1 is 0.72, and the power factor is 0.88. BeamVQ: Beam Search with Vector Quantization to Mitigate Data Scarcity in Physical Spatiotemporal Forecasting

In practice, physical spatiotemporal forecasting can suffer from data scarcity, because collecting large-scale data is non-trivial, especially for extreme events. Hence, we propose BeamVQ, a novel probabilistic framework to realize iterative self-training with new self-ensemble strategies, achieving better physical consistency and generalization on extreme events. Following any base forecasting model, we can encode its deterministic outputs into a latent space and retrieve multiple codebook entries to generate probabilistic outputs. Then BeamVQ extends the beam search from discrete spaces to the continuous state spaces in this field. We can further employ domain-specific metrics (e.g., Critical Success Index for extreme events) to filter out the top-k candidates and develop the new self-ensemble strategy by combining the high-quality candidates. The self-ensemble can not only improve the inference quality and robustness but also iteratively augment the training datasets during continuous self-training. Consequently, BeamVQ realizes the exploration of rare but critical phenomena beyond the original dataset. Comprehensive experiments on different benchmarks and backbones show that BeamVQ consistently reduces forecasting MSE (up to 39%), enhancing extreme events detection and proving its effectiveness in handling data scarcity. A child is the utmost innocent and vulnerable human being. Yet, children fall easy target to many types of violence, all over the place and each single day. Globally, one billion children face certain form of emotional, physical or sexual crimes each single year. To prevent and address crimes against children, a multifaceted approach combining law enforcement, healthcare workers, educators, researchers and social service providers is necessary. Modern technology and advanced tools are widely in use for criminal investigations from crime data. Although crime data set solely comprises the number of crimes reported in each state for various years, clustering can still be used to group states in India according to the crime cases against children. In this paper, we apply Expectation-Maximization (EM) cluster methodology in WEKA platform to find patterns and trends in child crime rate data and cluster states in India based on crime cases against children which may help to create efficient interventions to stop and deal with crimes against children. © 2023 IEEE.

Since the emergence of Pokémon Go in 2016, the world has been introduced to Augmented Reality (AR) games. Many IT companies have begun developing augmented reality (AR) games due to the great commercial potential in this industry. Certain products may have managed to remain viable in the market, while others were forced to close due to one or two factors. Since the emergence of Pokémon Go, no other game has managed to surpass its unprecedented success. The company responsible for developing Pokémon Go has decided to shut down one of their games due to a lack of consumer interest. The technology of augmented reality (AR) is consistently associated with the concept of immersion. Immersion is a key aspect of the game that allows users to deeply engage and feel fully involved in the experience. This study will employ a quantitative methodology, utilising a questionnaire that will be distributed to and completed by those who have engaged in augmented reality (AR) games. The data will be analysed using Smart PLS to examine the impact of user experience on immersion, which in turn influences intention. After gathering over 200 participants by spreading google form questionnaires and doing data analysis, the findings indicate that only a few aspects of user experience, namely Brand Experience and User Need Experience, have an impact on reasons. Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, was unable to replicate their success with a similar augmented reality game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The initial release occurred on June 21, 2019, and the shutdown took place on December 21, 2021. In the beginning, they shown a profound enthusiasm for the game but were unable to sustain it, much as Pokémon Go. According to Niantic CEO John Hanke, the primary reason for the game's shutdown was its immersion. Mixed-Precision Computing in the GRIST Dynamical Core for Weather and Climate Modelling

Atmosphere modelling applications become increasingly memory-bound due to the inconsistent development rates between processor speeds and memory bandwidth. In this study, we mitigate memory bottlenecks and reduce the computational load of the GRIST dynamical core by adopting the mixed-precision computing strategy. Guided by a limited-degree of iterative development principle, we identify the equation terms that are precision insensitive and modify them from double- to single-precision. The results show that most precision-sensitive terms are predominantly linked to pressure-gradient and gravity terms, while most precision-insensitive terms are advective terms. The computational cost is reduced without compromising the solver accuracy. The runtime of the model’s hydrostatic solver, non-hydrostatic solver, and tracer transport solver is reduced by 24%, 27%, and 44%, respectively. A series of idealized tests, real-world weather and climate modelling tests, has been performed to assess the optimized model performance qualitatively and quantitatively. In particular, in the high-resolution weather forecast simulation, the model sensitivity to the precision level is mainly dominated by the small-scale features. While in long-term climate simulation, the precision-induced sensitivity can form at the large scale. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
