Thermal constraint control of reversible solid oxide cell for optimal system efficiency

Reversible solid oxide cell (RSOC) demonstrates considerable promise in multimodal energy conversion architectures, particularly as a technology for hydrogen-based energy storage systems. Nevertheless, under dynamic operating regimes with time-varying current inputs, realizing time-efficient and reliable transitions to steady-state operation remains difficult. This difficulty arises from the intricate coupling of thermal, electrical, and gaseous processes within the RSOC system. This study aims to address these challenges by developing a 5 kW mathematical model of the RSOC system. The proposed model enables systematic investigation of thermal safety issues arising during current switching operations while introducing a thermal constraint control strategy to enhance both system efficiency and thermal safety performance. This efficiency-driven study employs the Grid Search algorithm to identify optimal steady-state operating points for the RSOC system, ensuring strict adherence to safety constraints across varying current inputs. Furthermore, by integrating the pre-identified optimal operating points as feedforward control with Model Predictive control (MPC)-based feedback correction, this hybrid strategy effectively mitigates stack temperature gradient overshoot while synchronously ensuring optimal system efficiency throughout current transition processes. Under simulated variable current inputs, the proposed RSOC system model and control strategy demonstrate the capability to constrain stack temperature gradient overshoot within 2.3K while enhancing transient efficiency by 5 %–8 %, achieving a peak system efficiency of 85 %. It provides a novel methodology for safe and efficient working with intermittent renewable energy. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

A Parallel Read-Write Circuit With Fast Amplitude-Adaptive Matching Scheme to Memristor Crossbar Array

Memristor crossbar array (MCA) is a computing-in-memory (CIM) module for computational acceleration. However, conventional read-write (R-W) circuits for MCA rely heavily on external components and have shortcoming in long writing times. To address these issues, we propose a parallel R-W circuit with a fast amplitude-adaptive matching (AAM) scheme. The fast AAM scheme is designed to accelerate time of writing memristors in MCA by adaptively adjusting the writing voltage to match an optimal amplitude. The architecture of parallel R-W circuit are outlined with the implementation of R-W processes. The design principles of parallel R-W unit, fast AAM unit, and associated control logic are described for analyzing their functions within the circuit. By integrating the parallel R-W circuit with MCA, a computing block is leveraged in a neural network for classification tasks. The experimental results demonstrate that the neural network with multiple computing blocks maintains high accuracy across various datasets (over 80%). Furthermore, the proposed AAM scheme achieves an average 54% reduction in writing time compared to that one without AAM scheme. Compared to the pulse-width scheme, the parallel R-W circuit exhibits an average 3.05× speedup in adjusting a 5×5 MCA, and the speedup efficiency is higher as the increases of MCA size. © 2025 IEEE.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) clustering has been a fundamental but challenging task with zero training labels. Currently, some deep graph clustering methods have been successfully explored for HSI due to their outstanding performance in effective spatial structural information encoding. Nevertheless, insufficient structural information utilization, poor feature presentation ability, and weak graph update capability limit their performance. Thus, in this paper, a homophily structure graph learning with an adaptive filter clustering method (AHSGC) for HSI is proposed. Specifically, homogeneous region generation is first developed for HSI processing and constructing the original graph. Afterward, an adaptive filter graph encoder is designed to adaptively capture the high and low frequency features on the graph for subsequence processing. Then, a graph embedding clustering self-training decoder is developed with KL Divergence, with which the pseudo-label is generated for network training. Meanwhile, homophily-enhanced structure learning is introduced to update the graph according to the clustering task, in which the orient correlation estimation is adopted to estimate the node connection, and graph edge sparsification is designed to adjust the edges in the graph dynamically. Finally, a joint network optimization is introduced to achieve network self-training and update the graph. The K-means is adopted to express the latent features. Extensive experiments and repeated comparative analysis have verified that our AHSGC contains high clustering accuracy, low computational complexity, and strong robustness. As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2

Intracortical brain-machine interfaces (iBMIs) aim to establish a communication path between the brain and external devices. However, in the daily use of iBMIs, the non-stationarity of recorded neural signals necessitates frequent recalibration of the iBMI decoder to maintain decoding performance, which requires collecting and labeling a large amount of new data. To address this challenge and minimize the time needed for decoder recalibration, we proposed an active learning domain adversarial neural network (AL-DANN). This model leveraged a substantial volume of historical data alongside a small amount of current data (four samples per category) to calibrate the decoder. By incorporating domain adversarial and active learning strategies, the model effectively transferred knowledge from historical data to new data, reducing the demand for new samples. We validated the proposed method using neural signals recorded from three monkeys performing different movements in a classification task or a regression task. The results showed that the AL-DANN outperformed existing state-of-the-art methods. Impressively, it required only four new samples per category for decoder recalibration, leading to a recalibration time reduction of over 80 %. To our knowledge, this is the first study to incorporate deep transfer learning into iBMI decoder calibration, highlighting the significant potential of applying deep learning technologies in iBMIs. © 2025

Speckle noise usually deteriorate the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system severely, which results in great difficulties to the post-processing. In this paper, we propose a novel despeckling method based on Fisher-Tippett (FT) distribution and nonconvex total variation (NTV) model to tackle the problem. First, we introduce a FT distribution-based Bayesian framework to develop speckle noise removal models. Secondly, we propose a new nonconvex TV model which is more appropriate to preserve edges/textures than the conventional model. Meanwhile, we give a simple method to solve the nonconvex TV model. Thirdly, a new iterative regularization scheme-based despeckling algorithm is proposed, in which the NTV model filtered residual is added back to the despeckling image. Experiments conducted on both simulated and real SAR images demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively remove speckle while preserving edges and textures compared with some state-of-the-art methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper proposes a novel lightweight classification network based on ShuffleNet V2 to promote the accuracy of garbage image classification. Compared with the conventional network, there is a package of optimizations to both ameliorate the classification accuracy and inference speed of the model. Firstly, the optimized network introduces the Leaky ReLU as a substitute for the activation function. It also adopts the squeeze and excitation network to enhance important features. In addition, the flattened layer is applied to downscale the data, and three fully connected layers are used for enhancing the learning capability. Furthermore, the model is pre-trained based on transfer learning, wherein the feature knowledge learned from imageNet datasets is transferred to garbage classification task. Extensive experiments on the garbage image dataset verify the overall performance, which improves the classification accuracy by 6.3% with a 35.4% reduction in time consumption. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The contourlet Transform is an efficient directional multiresolution image representation, but it is not shift-invariant. The nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT), is a fully shift-invariant, multiscale, and multidirection expansion that has a fast implementation, but the computational efficiency is lower than the contourlet transform, such an efficient representation has to be obtained by structured transform and fast algorithm. In this paper, we adopt an optimized directional filter bank and embed it into NSCT to pursue the desired speed, sacrificed the PSNR of the reconstructed image, we obtain the obvious increase of processing speed. Experimental results show that the quality of reconstructed image is sufficient for the human visual system (HVS), and the modified NSCT has a speed about several times than the speed of the customary one, this is very valuable for practical applications of the NSCT. © 2010 IEEE.

In this article, a novel robust image watermarking scheme is presented to resist rotation, scaling, and translation （RST）. Initially, the original image is scale normalized, and the feature points are then extracted. Furthermore, the locally most stable feature points are used to generate several nonoverlapped circular regions. These regions are then rotation normalized to generate the invariant regions. Watermark embedding and extraction are implemented in the invariant regions in discrete cosine transform domain. In the decoder, the watermark can be extracted without the original image. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is robust to traditional signal processing attacks, RST attacks, as well as some combined attacks.

Aiming at overcoming the shortage that the searching scope is limited to the source region of the damaged image, a fractal-based digital image inpainting algorithm is presented in this paper. Firstly, the source region of the image to be inpainted is partitioned into a set of blocks which form a codebook. Secondly, the best-matched block is chosen in the codebook by means of fast fractal theory. In addition, the proportion of confidence term is increased during computing the priority in order to avoid "false edge" caused by error match and intensify the constraint of searching condition, thus the filling process proceeds by the order of "onion-peel", meanwhile linear structures can be propagated into the target region. The novel contribution of this paper is to introduce fractal theory into the inpainting area and to restore damaged images using the characteristic of self-similarity of the images. Numerical experiments on real and synthetic images are given to illustrate the advantages of the proposed algorithm, and the results compare favorably to those obtained by existing techniques. © 2009 IEEE.
