This paper presents a novel approach to compute DCT-I, DCT-III, and DCT-IV. By using a modular mapping and truncating, DCTs are approximated by linear sums of discrete moments computed fast only through additions. This enables us to use computational techniques developed for computing moments to compute DCTs efficiently. We demonstrate this by applying our earlier systolic solution to this problem. The method can also be applied to multidimensional DCTs as well as their inverses. © 2005 Hindawi Publishing Corporation.

Propagation effects of low frequency electromagnetic waves in production well

The frequency domain electromagnetic method has already been widely used for tomographic imaging or electromagnetic well logging. However, different from open hole logging, the metal casing existing in production well logging has a strong shielding effect on the electromagnetic waves, thus bringing some difficulties to the application of the frequency domain electromagnetic method in production well logging. According to the relation of the field source geometry to the ring around the mandrel, the general expressions of frequency domain electromagnetic responses in axially symmetrical layered conductive medium are deduced. The propagation effects caused by the low-frequency electromagnetic waves in cased hole are also analyzed. The distribution curves of eddy current density and magnetic flux density along the radial direction in the mandrel indicate that the eddy loss within the mandrel is proportional to the transmission signal frequency and the mandrel conductivity. The secondary field responses of different casing materials show that the transmission frequency has an important effect on the ability of electromagnetic waves penetrating the metal casing. The transmission frequency should be ultra-low in order to enable the electromagnetic signal to penetrate the casing easily. The numerical results of frequency responses for different casing physical parameters show that the casing thickness has a significant impact on the choice of the transmission frequency. It is also found that the effect of the casing radius on the transmission frequency can be neglected.

The analytical algorithm of program quaternion is studied, aiming at the problem of the arbitrary spacecraft attitude-adjusting control. It also provides the analytical constructor method of the program quaternion for any given initial quaternion and angle velocity, terminal quaternion and angle velocity. The advantages of this method are as follows: (1) Good adaptability. Both of the initial and terminal conditions are arbitrary;(2) Simple model. The calculation process only involves the simple algebraic operation;(3) Easy to optimize. By using the program quaternion model, the time consumption in the process of spacecraft attitude adjustment and the maximum angular velocity can be optimized directly. According to the Mathematical simulation results, the program quaternion tracking can be realized by a simple PD control law. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

An Echo State Network (ESN) based predictive control method for aircraft system is proposed to increase the flight quality. Aerocraft is a nonlinear and time-varying system and its controllers are usually designed by trajectory linearization method. Furthermore, the predictive controller is designed to adjust the current controlled variables by the trend of output to improve the quick responsiveness and traceability. Then, the stability of the system is proved by Lyapunov function. Finally, the numerical simulation results of step-response and attitude tracking illustrate the robustness and effect of the method. © 2011 IEEE.

Solving the optimal control problem with a free final time, such as suborbital launch vehicle (SLV) trajectory optimization with two control variables and multi-constraints ones based on particle swarm optimization (PSO), the smoothness of control variable can not be satisfied by linear interpolation method. A novel method including some improving strategies based on PSO for trajectory optimization is proposed, named LCPSO which is a kind of Cooperate PSO based on Legendre orthogonal polynomials. An additional control variable is introduced and transcribes the original optimal problem to a problem with fixed final time, and one dimension searching method based on interval analysis is used to optimize the additional control variable. Furthermore, a theorem on how to find the boundaries of the coefficient of polynomials is proved. Compared with basic PSO, LCPSO has traits of lower dimensions and smoother control variable. An example of trajectory optimization shows the effectiveness of the LCPSO algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

Underwater laser image is seriously contaminated by speckle noise which is due to the coherent nature of the scattering phenomenon. In this paper, the authors propose an adaptive speckle suppression algorithm via the novel nonsubsampled contourlet transform. The statistical model for speckle noise is first analyzed to obtain a simple and tractable solution in a closed analytical form. Gaussian distribution for speckle noise and a general Gaussian distribution are adopted to model the statistics of contourlet coefficients in logarithmically transformed laser images. Then based on the maximizing the a posteriori estimation with the assumption that speckle noise is spatially correlated within a small window, we utilize a locally adaptive Bayesian processor whose parameters are obtained from the neighboring coefficients in highpass subbands. Experimental results show that comparing with classical wavelet method, the proposed algorithm shows a superior performance in suppressing the speckle noise and retaining geometrical structures of the image.

There are many multi-objective planning problems in emergency decision-making domain. HTN planners were widely used in emergency decision-making, while they have limited ability to solve optimization, especially multi-objective optimization. Aimed to handling multi-objective in HTN planners, this paper proposes a novel method based on SHOP2, which is a domain-independent state-based forward HTN planner. The method uses a weighted vector to mirror the decision maker's performance for various objectives and an anytime search algorithm to improve the ability to find the best solution plan. Finally, a case of emergency evacuation is given to testify the effectiveness of the method. © 2013 IEEE.

A novel multifocus image fusion algorithm based on contourlet transform and region statistics was proposed. For good properties of multiscale, localization, directionality and anisotropy, the multifocus source images are first decomposed using contourlet transform. Fusion operations based on region statistics are implemented for all subbands in each scale and direction. Regional variance and local energy are utilized as the fusion rule in low frequency and high frequency subbands, respectively. Experimental results show that the proposed method can extract image features more effectively and obtain better fusion performance. Compared with traditional gradient pyramid algorithm and wavelet based fusion algorithm, the mean square error of the proposed algorithm is increased by 34.8%and 42.6%.
