In this paper, a multi-agent social evolutionary algorithm is proposed for multiobjective optimization problems. It completes the search process by the agent evolution. MOMASEA (multi-agent social evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective) defines the trust degree to denote the historical information of agents, and the neighborhood of agent is confirmed by it. According to the characteristic of multiobjective problems, three evolutionary operators are designed to complete the whole evolutionary process. The experimental results show that MOMASEA has a good convergence to the Pareto set. Furthermore, the analysis of the mode for instructs local environment verified that importing acquaintance net model can speed up the convergence effectively. © by institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Bioluminescence tomography (BLT) poses a typical ill-posed inverse problem with a large number of unknowns and a relatively limited number of boundary measurements. It is indispensable to incorporate a priori information into the inverse problem formulation in order to obtain viable solutions. In the paper, Bayesian approach has been firstly suggested to incorporate multiple types of a priori information for BLT reconstruction. Meanwhile, a generalized adaptive Gaussian Markov random field (GAGMRF) prior model for unknown source density estimation is developed to further reduce the ill-posedness of BLT on the basis of finite element analysis. Then the distribution of bioluminescent source can be acquired by maximizing the log posterior probability with respect to a noise parameter and the unknown source density. Furthermore, the use of finite element method makes the algorithm appropriate for complex heterogeneous phantom. The algorithm was validated by numerical simulation of a 3-D micro-CT mouse atlas and physical phantom experiment. The reconstructed results suggest that we are able to achieve high computational efficiency and accurate localization of bioluminescent source. © 2009 Optical Society of America.

Interest points are local properties of an image with high informational content. In this paper, we present a new method for image retrieval based on color and distribution of interest points. Firstly, we use Harris corner detector to extract interest points. Secondly, we design a 2D histogram based on interest points to describe an image, which not only takes the local color feature into consideration, but also the space distribution information of interest points. With robustness to image rotation and translation, the 2D histogram avoids the shortcoming of losing the space distribution information in color histogram. Finally,we employ the weighted distance between two 2D histograms to discriminate the similarity between twoimages. Lots of experimental results based on a database containing 1100 images demonstrate our proposed method has good performance.

M-elite coevolutionary algorithm for numerical optimization

The M-elite coevolutionary algorithm (MECA) is proposed for high-dimensional unconstrained numerical optimization problems based on the concept of coevolutionary algorithm and elitist strategy. In the MECA, the individuals with high fitness, called elite population, is considered to play dominant roles in the evolutionary process. The whole population is divided into two subpopulations which are elite population composed of M elites and common population including other individuals, and team members are selected to form M teams by M elites acting as the cores of the M teams (named as core elites) respectively. If the team member selected is another elite individual, it will exchange information with the core elite with the cooperating operation defined in the paper;If the team member is chosen from the common population, it will be led by the core elite with the leading operation. The cooperating and leading operation above are defined by different combinations of several crossover operators or mutation operators. The algorithm is proved to converge to the global optimization solution with probability one. Tests on 15 benchmark problems show that the algorithm can find the global optimal solution or near-optimal solution for most problems tested. Compared with three existing algorithms, MECA achieves an improved accuracy with the same number of function evaluations. Meanwhile, the runtime of MECA is less, even compared with the standard genetic algorithm with the same parameter setting. Moreover, the parameters of the MECA are analyzed in experiments and the results show that MECA is insensitive to parameters and easy to use. © by institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Epidemic spreading with variant infection rates on scale-free network

In this paper, we proposed a susceptible-infected model with variant infection rates because different individuals have different resistance to diseases in different periods of real epidemic events. We consider two cases: Case 1, we know every individual's infection rate to a kind of epidemic, satisfy a type of distribution. Case 2, assume all individuals have same initial infection rates, a susceptible individual's infection rate will be less than the initial rate if he is not infected after limited number of contacts with infected ones. For both two cases, at the time tD, preventive and control measures bring into effects, every individual's infection rate would decrease. We implemented this models on scale-free networks, and found that the epidemic process before the time tD in Case 1 is almost the same as that in Standard SI model if the infection rate in Standard SI model equals the mean infection rate in Case 1. Furthermore, using numerical simulation, we analysis the effects of the parameter tD, and find the bimodal distribution of final infection rates. Finally, we conclude what we get in this paper and give our future direction. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Interdependency analysis of infrastructures

Electric power, potable water, telecommunications, natural gas, and transportation are examples of critical infrastructures, the intrinsic feature of which are suitable for network analysis. This paper proposes a method framework based on the complex network to explore the interdependency of these infrastructures. We describe the topological characterization of two interdependent small-sized real networks, based on which the interdependent model is devised. We define the interdependent factor to characterize the direct interdependency of two infrastructures, and also its fluctuation in the situations of random removal and targeted removal on the electric and water infrastructures is studied. Furthermore we propose a matrix M to reflect all direct and indirect interactions among infrastructures, which also makes contributions to the understanding of infrastructures catastrophes. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

A new algorithm named as M-elitist Evolutionary Algorithm (MEA) is presented with low complexity and high performance to approach the performance of Maximum-Likelihood(ML) detection, for solving the problem of the high complexity of ML detection in real-time Vertical- Bell laboratories LAyered Space-Time (V-BLAST) communication system. The simulation of one knapsack problem validates the effectiveness of MEA to solve combinatorial optimization problems. Furthermore, the simulation of V-BLAST communication system shows that the MEA-based detection algorithm can approach the performance of ML well, and is superior to the detection algorithm based on standard genetic algorithm and that based on clonal selection algorithm as well as some classical ones.

A novel image registration algorithm based on octalog-polar Fourier transform (OLPFT) for estimating large translations, rotations, and scalings in images is presented. The OLPFT, which is calculated at points distributed at non-linear increased concentric octagons, approximated log-polar Fourier representations of images accurately. And it can be calculated fast by utilizing the Fourier separability property and fractional FFT. Using the log-polar Fourier representations and cross-power spectrum method, we can estimate the rotations and scalings in images, and obtain translations later.

In the field of visual attention, bottom-up or saliency-based visual attention allows primates to detect non-specific conspicuous objects or targets in cluttered scenes. Simple multi-scale "feature maps" detect local spatial discontinuities in intensity, color, orientation, and are combined into a "saliency" map. In this paper, we propose a Saliency Map based on feature weighted, in which the Rough Sets is used to assign the weighting for every feature. This method measures the contribution of each conspicuity map obtained from the feature maps to saliency map. And it also carries out a dynamic weighting of individual conspicuity maps. We obtain results, which enrich the theory of Saliency detection. We use the real data of natural scenes to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm. © 2009 IEEE.

A new nonlinear control strategy incorporated the dynamic inversion method with wavelet neural networks is presented for the nonlinear coupling system of Bank-to-Turn(BTT) missile in reentry phase. The basic control law is designed by using the dynamic inversion feedback linearization method, and the online learning wavelet neural network is used to compensate the inversion error due to aerodynamic parameter errors, modeling imprecise and external disturbance in view of the time-frequency localization properties of wavelet transform. Weights adjusting laws are derived according to Lyapunov stability theory, which can guarantee the boundedness of all signals in the whole system. Furthermore, robust stability of the closed-loop system under this tracking law is proved. Finally, the six degree-of-freedom(6DOF) simulation results have shown that the attitude angles can track the anticipant command precisely under the circumstances of existing external disturbance and in the presence of parameter uncertainty. It means that the dependence on model by dynamic inversion method is reduced and the robustness of control system is enhanced by using wavelet neural network(WNN) to reconstruct inversion error on-line. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical engineering.
