Interest points are local properties of an image with high informational content. In this paper, we present a new method for image retrieval based on color and distribution of interest points. Firstly, we use Harris corner detector to extract interest points. Secondly, we design a 2D histogram based on interest points to describe an image, which not only takes the local color feature into consideration, but also the space distribution information of interest points. With robustness to image rotation and translation, the 2D histogram avoids the shortcoming of losing the space distribution information in color histogram. Finally,we employ the weighted distance between two 2D histograms to discriminate the similarity between twoimages. Lots of experimental results based on a database containing 1100 images demonstrate our proposed method has good performance.

A new algorithm named as M-elitist Evolutionary Algorithm (MEA) is presented with low complexity and high performance to approach the performance of Maximum-Likelihood(ML) detection, for solving the problem of the high complexity of ML detection in real-time Vertical- Bell laboratories LAyered Space-Time (V-BLAST) communication system. The simulation of one knapsack problem validates the effectiveness of MEA to solve combinatorial optimization problems. Furthermore, the simulation of V-BLAST communication system shows that the MEA-based detection algorithm can approach the performance of ML well, and is superior to the detection algorithm based on standard genetic algorithm and that based on clonal selection algorithm as well as some classical ones.

A novel image registration algorithm based on octalog-polar Fourier transform (OLPFT) for estimating large translations, rotations, and scalings in images is presented. The OLPFT, which is calculated at points distributed at non-linear increased concentric octagons, approximated log-polar Fourier representations of images accurately. And it can be calculated fast by utilizing the Fourier separability property and fractional FFT. Using the log-polar Fourier representations and cross-power spectrum method, we can estimate the rotations and scalings in images, and obtain translations later.
