In this paper, a new approach to estimate the power system frequency using wavelet transform is proposed. The wavelet function is expressed by the power series and is able to be performed by the z-transform, which can shorten the estimating time of the signal frequency compared with the Gabor function. Simulation results, in which the fundamental frequency (60 Hz) or the harmonics frequency (300 Hz) of the signals are quickly estimated by the proposed method, are presented and the online estimation of the frequencies is successfully achieved by the proposed method in the experimental system using DSP.

A novel approach for the design of Switched Current (SI) ladder circuits is discussed. Starting from the specifications of the filter in z-domain, continued fraction expansions (CFE) of the transfer function are obtained. Then Signal Flow Graphs (SFG) of each row of the expansion so derived are directly transformed into Switched Current structures (integrators and amplifiers). These SI blocks are connected in ladder form to generate the required SI circuit. Two examples have been used to demonstrate the utility of the approach. The circuits have been designed and simulated using OrCAD PSPICE.

Detection and prevention of Phenylketonuria (PKU) is becoming more and more important. However, the current methods are either imprecise or time-consuming. We propose a biosensor system based on phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) immobilized on an ammonia electrode to measure blood phenylalanine for PKU prevention. The biosensor exhibits good linearity from 10-5000 muM and the response time is only about 2 minutes. It remains stable for at least 5 days and less than 20% drop of the original activity after ten day storage at 4 D, while the service life of the biosensor could be up to 30 days. We also develop an intelligent system to ensure optimal conditions for operation and preservation of the biosensor and to make detection more convenient and reliable. All of these advantages indicate that the newly developed method could be a better one for solving the problems of PKU detection

This paper presents the overall design of an industrial vibration transmitter using MEMS capacitive accelerometer. It describes the accelerometer sensor interfacing circuit, rms-to-dc converter, voltage to current loop converter circuit design, calibration procedure, and mounting methods. The industrial vibration transmitter output can be customized to obtain either acceleration or velocity with root mean square (rms) or peak (pk) value signal. The output of the transmitter is a current signal (4-20mA) which is proportional to input acceleration (0-10g rms). The AC coupling circuit for accelerometer sensor interfacing, RMS detector and industrial current loop converter circuit are implemented in a single printed circuit board. The prototype consists of 2 pin top connector for power input (24VDC), current output signal and stainless steel mechanical housing assembly with bottom thread connection for mounting. The loop powered acceleration vibration transmitter is employed for vibration monitoring and control applications.

In mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), the nodes intercommunicate through single-hop and multi-hop paths in a peer-to-peer fashion. Intermediate nodes between two pairs of communication nodes act as routers. Thus the nodes operate both as hosts and routers. The nodes are mobile, so the topology of the network may change rapidly and unexpectedly. One of well-known routing protocol for ad-hoc networks is zone routing protocol (ZRP). However when the protocol searches for a new route, it sends many useless control packets, which increase the network load and decrease the network performance. In this paper, we propose an enhanced zone routing protocol (EZRP). In EZRP, each node calculates the reliability of the route. In the case of reliable route, the source node sends the data packet directly to the destination node using that route without route searching. While, in the case of unreliable route, the source node searches for a new route again. We show that the network performance can be improved by using EZRP.
