Industrial communication networks based on field-buses require specific software tools for planning, configuration and management. The integration of field-buses into intranet-based enterprise networks provides a platform for the introduction of a new quality of software tools for field-bus handling. The paper shows concepts, scenarios and requirements for the Web-integrated management of fieldbus systems. Exemplary solutions with P-NET and CAN are described. Strategies are shown for a mapping of the bus systems' management function blocks to Internet technology and Internet software components. Furthermore, problems, benefits and future trends of this integration are discussed from the users' and vendors' points of view.

By controlling the MOSFET's threshold voltage, power reduction in CMOS VLSIs can be achieved while the operating speed of the circuits is maintained. In this paper, we propose an efficient substrate bias voltage generator with a charge-pumping circuit driven by CMOS inverters for threshold voltage control of MOSFETs. The substrate bias voltage generator can generate negative voltage of -V/sub DD/ level without threshold voltage loss of MOS transistors. The operating characteristics of the generator are also analyzed in detail by using the circuit analysis program H-SPICE.

This paper considers the problem of globally asymptotic stabilization of multi-input multi-output bilinear systems with undamped natural response. It firstly presents a simple sufficient condition for construction of a static state feedback controller. Then under an additional condition on system detectability, two output dynamic feedback controllers with saturation bounded control are constructed. The globally asymptotic stability of the closed loop systems using these controllers are established by using Lyapunov stability approach.

In this paper, an approximate expression of the interconnect capacitance between two strip conductors against the relative position of the conductors is presented. It is based on the numerical results obtained using the boundary element method and the extrapolation method. By combining this capacitance, the electric images, and the principle of superposition of the conductor system, a simple new method of calculating the equivalent capacitance and the characteristic impedance of coupled pairs of microstrip-like transmission lines in the quasi-TEM regime is proposed. If the relative positions of the conductors and of the conductor and ground of the coupled pairs of microstrip-like transmission lines are changed, the characteristic impedance can be obtained, and it will be very easy to calculate the characteristic impedance without the complicated computation necessary in the conventional numerical methods. © 1997 Scripta Technica, Inc. This paper deals with the fault-tolerant control problem under nonlinear boiler systems with noise and disturbance. MCMBPC (Multivariable Constrained Model-Based Predictive controller) proposed by Wilkinson et al . is used and modified in this paper in order to be applied to nonlinear boiler systems. Fault-tolerant control scheme combining MCMBPC with a fault detection method based on the unknown input observer is proposed. The fault-tolerant controller proposed is shown, via simulation, to have acceptable tracking performance even under some faults of input valves in the boiler system.

In this paper, sensor fusion techniques, fused vision/optical sensors and tactile/vision sensors are introduced which are used for learning/identifying features of-tasks related to a robot's part-bringing procedure from a part position to a position over a hole for the purpose of a micro-part insertion in partially unstructured environments. An entropy function, which is a useful measure of the variability and the information in terms of uncertainty, including learning, is introduced to measure the overall performance of a task execution related to a part assembly. By employing a learning approach, the uncertainty associated with the part-bringing task is reduced. The above tools are necessary for a robot manipulator to perform complex assembly, material handling, manufacturing or machining tasks, for example remote maintenance and hazardous material handling, in an unstructured environment.

In October 1985 he became a Research Associate at the University of Tokyo. His research interests are in robotic engineering and magnetic levitation. He is a member of the Institute of Robotics Institute of Measurement and Automatic Control and Institute of Precision Engineering.

A magnetic suspension system with linear actuators and permanent magnets (instead of electromagnets) has been developed. In this system the bearing forces are controlled by adjusting the air gaps between permanent magnets and the levitated object (a circular disk). This system uses less energy and exhibits none of the over-heating of coils typical of systems employing electro-magnets. This paper describes a disk suspension system with three degrees of freedom. The system can operate either with a decentralized (distributed) feedback control system or with a centralized (lumped) one. Feedback gain matrices are calculated for each type of control system. The performances of the two types of control systems are compared by numerical simulations and experiment. This work is part of an effort to develop a magnetic levitation conveyer system.

The root loci of induction drives show weakly damped roots for the motor running at low speeds in accelerating mode. Thus, the torque will oscillate during speed-up. We show in this paper, that the stationary and dynamic behavior of the motor is improved, if the rotor flux peak is regulated to a constant reference. Thus, the stator voltage and stator flux peak are decoupled from the torque. Dynamically, the weakly damped dominant root pair at low speeds is converted into a fast and a slow root giving a low pass torque behavior. Two new control laws are presented. The former controls only the stationary behavior of the rotor flux peak and leaves the dynamics unchanged. Real measurements show that, whenever enough friction of the appended mechanics is present, this controller is a valuable solution. The latter is a dynamic extension of the first one and controls the rotor flux peak at all times to a constant reference using an observer based LQR-designed state feedback. The root locus of the controlled induction drive shows that this controller is a good choice, if mechanics with low friction are used with the motor. Such a result is confirmed by simulations. The main advantage of both controllers stands in their simplicity and modest requirements on hardware, i.e. voltage inverter, measurement, computational power.

The problem in designing an automatic gain controller (AGC) for a low-frequency oscillator is to assure that the de voltage is related to the amplitude of oscillation. For a switched-capacitor (SC) oscillator composed of three SC phase-shifters, the capacitances yielding a de voltage proportional to the square of the oscillation amplitude are discussed. By the stated-variable method, the SC oscillator was analyzed to determine the conditions under which the outputs of three phase-shifters are equal in amplitude and different in phase by 120 degrees. When the condition is satisfied, the de voltage is obtained by summing the three squared outputs. An SC oscillator was designed based on the circuit analysis, and its performance agreed well with the analytical results. (C) 1997 Scripta Technica, Inc.

She has been engaged in research on cluttering of relays holographic observation of surface waves ultrasound measurement of liquid and surface plasmon of biosensors. She is a member of the Applied Physics Society Acoustic Society Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and IEEE. Graduated from the Department of Optoelectromechanical Engineering Shizuoka University in 1990 and received his Dr. of Eng. degree from there in 1995. Since 1993 he has been a special Research Associate at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. In 1994 he received an Awaya Award from the Acoustic Society and Hiroshi Ando Memorial Award in 1994. He has been engaged in research on chemical sensors using surface acoustic wave devices. It was found that a surface acoustic wave microsensor is highly sensitive in detecting the physical and chemical changes of the medium on the vibrating surface in real time. Hence, microsensors are used in many applications. There are already several types of surface acoustic wave microsensors with their differences based on vibration and wave modes. New types of sensors are proposed herein and new findings and new applications are reported. The present level of development of surface acoustic wave microsensors is described and these sensors are compared, discussed, and evaluated. Fundamental characteristics are then presented for the shear-surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) microsensors using a 36 degrees rotated Y-plate X-propagation LiTaO3 studied by the authors. It is shown that this sensor has many applications. Further, if several SH-SAW sensors with different frequencies are used, a high recognition rate can be obtained even for liquid samples that cannot be recognized by human perception. The example used here is 13 types of whiskey.
