Beamforming technology is mainly applied to increase the energy utilization efficiency in wireless communication, and to enlarge signal transmission range via multiantenna technology. The beamforming technology presented in this paper is distributed collaborative beamforming (DCBF) technology, which is a branch of cooperative communication. In this paper, we propose a phase synchronization algorithm to achieve DCBF in a distributed array. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps. First, in order to improve the convergent speed of the phase alignment, we traverse all N possible initial phases of each node to determine a local optimum iteration point. Then we perform two-bit feedback iteration to ensure that the normalized received signal strength (NRSS) reaches the threshold of cooperative beamforming. Numerical results demonstrate that proposed algorithm offers better phase synchronization performance compared with the classical one-bit feedback method and two-bit feedback method.

Two-dimensional van der Waals magnetic materials have shown fascinating natural ferromagnetic properties at the atomic level, which has great potential in fields of low power spintronics, quantum computing and optical communication. Herein, the ferromagnetism and magnetic anisotropy of bulk Fe3GeTe2 (FGT) were investigated, and the testing results indicate a pronounced vertical magnetic anisotropy below the Curie temperature (Tc=165 K) of FGT. In addition, the anomalous Hall effect of FGT nanoflakes was studied at various temperatures and thicknesses by standard Hall bar device in detail. The results show the anomalous Hall resistance (0.764 Ω at 20 K decreased to 0.332 Ω at 140 K) and the obvious rectangular magnetic hysteresis rings below Tc (165 K). Furthermore, we calculated the carrier concentration (2.5×1022 cm-3 at 20K) and mobility (13.3 cm2/(v·s) at 20K) under large magnetic field (-6 T~6 T). Particularly, we demonstrated that the strong tailoring ability of the anomalous Hall effect for FGT-based magnetoelectric transport devices comes form the regulation of magnetic moment by sample thickness and magnetic field angle. The above experimental results verify that FGT is expected to be a prime candidate material for ultrathin 2D spintronic devices to the next generation. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the consensus control against attacks for a type of nonlinear multi-agent switched systems under arbitrary switching is studied. The attacks corrupt the information data, which cannot be used for the feedback design. Meanwhile, the switching logic is not allowed to be designed. To tackle the complicated effects, some intermediate variables and adaptive laws are introduced to compensate the uncertainties. By constructing a common Lyapunov function, an adaptive protocol is proposed such that the outputs of the agents achieve consensus against attacks under arbitrary switching.

This paper investigates the charging scheduling problem within an Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS), aiming to coordinate multiple charging piles to optimize the charging process. The objectives are to increase the profit for the Charging Station Operator (CSO) and enhance user satisfaction while mitigating significant fluctuations in grid load. However, since these objectives originate from different stakeholders, they are inherently conflicting;a strategy trained using fixed objective weights cannot satisfy all of them simultaneously. Additionally, uncertainties such as vehicle arrival and departure times, power requirements, and grid tariffs complicate the modeling of this process. To address these challenges, this paper reformulates the scheduling process as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and proposes a novel model-free reinforcement learning method. By integrating randomly varying objective preferences into the inputs of agents, a set of policies corresponding to different objective preferences can be learned through a single training session. As a result, agents can execute various policies to satisfy the stakeholders’ needs based on these preferences. Moreover, a sampling adjustment strategy is introduced to improve the uniformity of the final non-dominated solution set and enhance the ability of the agent to explore the objective space. Experiments show that the proposed method can effectively solve the multi-objective problem of cooperative charging within an EVCS. Compared to the baseline method, the proposed method can achieve superior results while simultaneously reducing the computational cost to a significant extent. © 2014 IEEE.

DC Micro-grid system is drastically dependent on energy storage system that will provide compatible power required between power output of new energy and the loads. This article addresses the new type of robust control strategy specifically designed for the hybrid energy storage system of batteries and super capacitor for the DC micro-grid. For the purpose of such robust control strategy, the batteries are used to supply the energy in a stabilized manner while the super capacitor is used to supply the energy with fast transients. This method is used for stabilized energy filtered by conventional low-pass filter using fuzzy rule based controllers are used for further energy filtration at the sharp end. Compared with conventional control strategy, it will further reduce the current stress for battery while improving battery life time. In addition, it is featured with simple control, less computations and easy-to-realize. Furthermore, such system also incorporates energy control algorithm that will retain the state of charge of both batteries and super capacitor within the limit, thereby preventing the hybrid energy storage system from overcharge or over discharge so that the life time of hybrid energy storage system can be guaranteed. In the end, the simulation test platform established in Matlab/Simulink for DC micro-grid system will be used to verify the effectiveness of the control strategy as put forth.

This article presents an innovative Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Miniaturized Radiator tailored for microwave applications. The design addresses key challenges such as achieving broad impedance bandwidth, maintaining a compact form factor, and ensuring high radiation efficiency. Extensive simulations using CST Microwave Studio were conducted on a 13 × 14 × 1.5 mm³ FR-4 substrate to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the antenna. The proposed design exhibits notable features, such as an impressive 121.8 % impedance bandwidth and a remarkable -28 dB (S 11 ). Ensuring consistent radiation patterns, the antenna guarantees reliable and efficient operation. It operates from 3.4 GHz to 14 GHz, with a middle point of 8.7 GHz, and an efficiency of 82.9 % with delivers a wide gain of 3.92 dBi, making it quite suitable for many uses. Its design is particularly suitable for communications in the UWB, S-band, C-band, and X-band.

Self-guided filtering slow feature thermography for subsurface defect detection in composite materials

Infrared thermography (IRT) is widely used for non-destructive measurement and testing of composite materials and heritage conservation. Thermal data post-processing techniques playing a crucial role in improving accuracy and efficiency. In this work, a self-guided filtering-based slow feature thermography (GF-SFT) method is proposed for subsurface defect assessment of composites. It processes and analyzes time-series thermal imaging data of inspection targets from both temporal and spatial dimensions. First, a self-guided filtering method enhances the thermal image sequence in the spatial domain, preserving critical image features (e.g., edges) while reducing noise and suppressing irrelevant details, thereby improving the data quality. Subsequently, the slow feature analysis technique isolates stable background components in the thermal signal over time while distinguishing rapidly changing features associated with subsurface defects. The proposed framework is validated through an evaluation of filtering performance and a Fourier-based interpretation of fast- and slow-varying thermal features. A test case on a carbon fiber reinforced polymer demonstrates the effectiveness of the GF-SFT method in detecting subsurface defects.

The electric vehicle (EV) and electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) have been widely deployed with the development of large-scale transportation electrifications. However, since charging behaviors of EVs show large uncertainties, the forecasting of EVCS charging power is non-trivial. This paper tackles this issue by proposing a reinforcement learning assisted deep learning framework for the probabilistic EVCS charging power forecasting to capture its uncertainties. Since the EVCS charging power data are not standard time-series data like electricity load, they are first converted to the time-series format. On this basis, one of the most popular deep learning models, the long short-term memory (LSTM) is used and trained to obtain the point forecast of EVCS charging power. To further capture the forecast uncertainty, a Markov decision process (MDP) is employed to model the change of LSTM cell states, which is solved by our proposed adaptive exploration proximal policy optimization (AePPO) algorithm based on reinforcement learning. Finally, experiments are carried out on the real EVCSs charging data from Caltech, and Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA, respectively. Aluminum nitride (AlN) thin film has considerable properties, which makes it advantages for a variety of applications. AlN films were prepared by plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) with the growth temperature of 100 to 450 ℃. The properties of AlN films with various growth temperatures were studied systematically. In addition, AlN/GaN layers deposited on sapphire (Al 2 O 3 ) substrates were also investigated. The AlN/GaN interfaces and AlN/Al 2 O 3 interfaces characteristics were analyzed. The optical property of GaN films prepared on sapphire substrate with and without AlN buffer layer were identified by Photoluminescence measurement. The experiment result shows that crystal AlN films became to present at 250 ℃ with a hexagonal wurtzite structure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigation shows that AlN films contain Al-O, Al-O-N complexes and Al-Al metallic aluminum bonds except the main Al-N bond confirmed by high resolution Al 2p and N 1s spectra. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy measurement reveals sharp interfaces of AlN/Al 2 O 3 and AlN/GaN. The obtained lowest lattice mismatch of AlN/Al 2 O 3 and AlN/GaN are 11.0% and 2.1%, respectively. Photoluminescence measurement further confirms that AlN buffer layer enhances the quality of GaN grown on sapphire substrates. High quality AlN/GaN layers prepared by PEALD provides a promising pathway towards high quality GaN-based devices. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Wide use and availability of machine learning and computer vision techniques allows development of relatively complex monitoring systems in many domains. Besides the traditional industrial domain, new applications appears also in biology and agriculture, where they may be used to detect infections, parasites and weeds, but also for automated monitoring and early warning systems. This goes in concordance with the introduction of the easily accessible hardware and development kits such as the Arduino, or RaspberryPi families. In this paper, we survey 50 papers focusing on the methods of automated beehive monitoring using computer vision techniques. Particularly on the pollen and Varroa mite detection together with the bee traffic monitoring. Such systems could also be used for monitoring of honeybee colonies and for the inspection of their health state, which could potentially identify dangerous states before the situation is critical, or to better plan periodic bee colony inspections and therefore save significant costs. Further on, we also include analysis of the research trends in this application field and we outline the possible directions of new development. Our paper is also aimed at veterinary and apidology professionals and experts, who may not be familiar with machine learning to introduce them to its capabilities, hence each family of techniques is prefaced by a brief theoretical introduction and motivation related to its base method. We hope that this paper will inspire other scientists to use machine learning techniques for other applications in beehive monitoring. © 2022, CC BY.
