Singularities arise in diverse disciplines and play a key role in both exploring fundamental laws of physics and making highly-sensitive sensors [1–14]. Higher-order (≥ 3) singularities, with further improved performance [15–19], however, usually require exquisite tuning of multiple (≥ 3) coupled degrees of freedom [15–17] or nonlinear control [18, 19], thus severely limiting their applications in practice. Here we propose theoretically and confirm using mechanics experiments that, cubic singularities can be realized in a coupled binary system without any nonlinearity, only by observing the phase tomography of the driven response. By steering the cubic phase-tomographic singularities in an electrostatically-tunable micromechanical system, enhanced cubic-root response to frequency perturbation and voltage-controlled nonreciprocity are demonstrated. Our work opens up a new phase-tomographic method for interacted-system research, and sheds new light on building and engineering advanced singular devices with simple and well-controllable elements, with a wide range of applications including precision metrology, portable nonreciprocal devices, and on-chip mechanical computing. © 2023, CC BY-SA.

Gesture recognition is a key research field in the human-computer interaction. At present, most of researchers focus on one-handed gesture recognition, but do not pay much attention to bimanual (two hands) gesture recognition. This paper presents a deep learning-based solution to tackle the self-occlusion and self-similarity. To solve this problem, this paper uses Kinect to collect many colour and depth images of different gestures, and each gesture contains multiple sample individuals. Colour images and depth images are used to train the recognition model of bimanual gesture respectively, and then the colour image and depth image are fused, and the bimanual gesture recognition model is trained based on colour image and depth image fusion. Then, the bimanual recognition effects of the three models are compared. The experimental results show that, regardless of the single gesture precision or the mean average precision, the bimanual gesture recognition effect of the fused model is better than the gesture recognition models based on either colour image or depth image. In this study, wet oxidation of an industrial high concentration caprolactam organic wastewater using oxygen gas as an oxidant was investigated. Different experiments were conducted to discuss the effects of the reaction temperature, time, the initial oxygen pressure and dilution ration of raw wastewater, using a batch reactor with COD removal rate as a standard for assessing. Results show that the highest removal rate of COD, 76.6%, was obtained at 250 °C for 30 min with the oxygen pressure 1.7 MPa and dilution ration 10. The biodegradability of the wastewater improved greatly after the wet oxidation process. These results illustrated that wet oxidation with oxygen gas as an oxidant displayed effectively for the pretreatment of high concentration caprolactam organic wastewater. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Modeling spatio-temporal sequences is an important topic yet challenging for existing neural networks. Most of the current spatio-temporal sequence prediction methods usually capture features separately in temporal and spatial dimensions or employ multiple mutually independent local spatio-temporal graphs to represent a spatio-temporal sequence. The first kind of method mentioned above is difficult to mine the complex spatio-temporal correlations, while the other is limited for the accuracy of long-term predictions. To handle these issues, this paper proposes a Transformer-Improved Graph Convolution Network for spatio-temporal prediction. Specifically, the temporal location encoding method is exploited to derive the spatio-temporal characteristics of the sequence utilizing a spatio-temporal feature fusion network. In addition, a spatio-temporal attention network is developed to enhance the spatio-temporal correlation of the sequence, and the dynamic spatial features of sequence are further extracted through the adaptive graph convolution network. A private dataset and a public dataset are employed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed TIGC-Net. The qualitative and quantitative results show that the proposed TIGC-Net can extract dynamic spatiotemporal properties more effectively, enhance the spatio-temporal correlation of sequences and improve the prediction accuracy compared with four stateof-the-art. © 2022, The Authors. Optimizing hydrogen direct injection strategy in a passive pre-chamber turbulent jet ignition NH 3 /H 2 Miller-cycle engine: Analysis of flow, combustion and emission characteristics

Hydrogen and ammonia, as promising zero-carbon fuels, are gaining increasing attention in transportation applications. The passive pre-chamber (PC) can effectively enhance combustion efficiency. This study investigates the impact of hydrogen direct injection strategies on passive PC turbulent jet ignition (TJI) Miller-cycle NH 3 /H 2 engine performance. The flow field and mixture distribution are explored through numerical simulation, while the engine performance is evaluated through experiments. Experiments were conducted at 1600 rpm engine speed with 60 kPa intake manifold pressure under stoichiometric conditions. The research findings that as the start of injection (SOI) timing is delayed, the distribution of the mixture gradually transitions from uniform to stratified. Maximum BMEP and BTE were achieved at 60°CA BTDC SOI. The TJI technology can effectively mitigate the combustion instability induced by the late injection strategy. However, the late injection strategy will lead to an increase in N 2 O emissions from combustion and unburned NH 3 emissions. In addition, an overly early injection timing causes a decrease in the mixture quality, deteriorating the engine power. Adopting a secondary injection strategy counteracts performance degradation from early injection while maintaining mixture homogeneity. The findings suggest that appropriately delaying the SOI represents a viable approach to improve the working performance of the TJI NH 3 /H 2 engine.

This paper investigates the high-speed train rescheduling (HSTR) problem under a partial station blockage and proposes an efficient problem-specific strengthen elitist genetic algorithm (PS-SEGA) for HSTR. An HSTR model that is subject to train operation constraints is established to minimize the total train delay. The PS-SEGA framework consists of the following main steps. Firstly, a permutation-based encoding method is developed to define an efficient search space based on a train departure sequence. A decoding method is employed to output the rescheduled timetable and objective value based on the departure sequence. Moreover, a hybrid initialization method involving an efficient heuristic strategy (EHS) is put forward to accelerate the convergence speed of Evolutionary algorithms (EAs). Using problem-specific knowledge, EHS generates an efficient and feasible solution for the initial population. Finally, a restart strategy is presented to maintain genetic diversity. Compared with other advanced EAs and their improved variants also using the PS-SEGA framework, experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PS-SEGA for addressing HSTR scenarios under the partial station blockage. As for the scenarios that CPLEX can not obtain optimal solutions within 10 minutes, PS-SEGA can all provide quasi-optimal solutions in real-time. Furthermore, compared with the other two strategies (i.e., First-Scheduled-First-Served and EHS), PS-SEGA can find the best departure sequence that can output the timetable with a quasi-optimal solution. © 2023, The Authors. In this paper, a perspective image fusion algorithm of real-world and artificial scenes based on depth maps is proposed and applied to holographic printing to realize augmented reality display of holographic stereograms. The basic principle of the fusion algorithm is introduced, and the perspective image fusion with correct occlusion relation is implemented theoretically. Under the condition of sampling only once, an image generation algorithm with adjustable depth of artificial scenes is proposed and implemented. We use effective perspective image segmentation and mosaicking method for optical experiments, and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Electrocardiography (ECG) is a mandatory standard for monitoring electrical activity of the heart in many clinical settings such as intensive care and emergency units. However, in situations wherein the skin is damaged, such as acute burn injuries, it is impossible to efficiently attach electrodes to the skin. In this study, we developed a non-contact cardiac monitoring system using a 24-GHz medical radar for directly measuring the beat-to-beat heart mechanical activity at a distance from a subject. The heart rate variability (HRV) was analysed using an autoregressive model (AR) from the measured beat-to-beat intervals during a head-up tilt test. To investigate the feasibility of the proposed system, we compared medical radar and ECG recording by using Lin’s correlation coefficient and Bland–Altman analysis, which showed a negligible mean difference from the substantial agreement of Lin’s correlation coefficient of 0.9 between the radar and ECG. The non-contact radar clearly monitored dynamic changes in HRV indices induced by the head-up tilt test. This type of non-contact HRV-sensing technique as an alternative approach has significant potential for advancing personal healthcare in both clinical and out-of-hospital settings. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
