A sorter of impurities, or colors, in glass cullet is a key device in waste-glass recycling plants. The arrangement of an optical sensor for a detector in the sorter, based on pairs of infrared LED and photodiode, is examined. The issues of tolerance of the optoelectronic components and their temperature dependence are resolved. The design of key electronic circuits of the detector is outlined. The main functions of the microcontroller firmware (multiplexing, ranging, impurity detection, filtering, detection of soiling, event timing), their solution and communication protocols are described. PC control software is briefly mentioned. The detectors work successfully in a Czech recycling plant.

Analysis of the wall-plug efficiency, i.e. the ratio of reflected and absorbed acoustic power over the total electric input power, of semi-active vibration control devices based on the principle of Piezoelectric Shunt Damping is presented. The vibration suppression element in the considered vibration control device consists of a piezoelectric actuator, which is connected to the active synthetic impedance shunt circuit that emulates a negative capacitance. Two types of power amplifiers can be used in the implementation of the synthetic impedance: linear (class B, AB) and switching (class D). Strengths and weaknesses of the two aforementioned implementations of the synthetic impedance shunt circuit in the semi-active vibration control device are analyzed. The key factor in the analysis is the wall-plug efficiency. Principles that can enhance the wall-plug efficiency of the device are discussed.

This paper deals with a substitution of the nonlinear once-through boiler model. The substitution is based on a set of the linearized models which are continuously switched according to the value of the boiler power level. The aim is to obtain a model which sufficiently accurately substitutes the original nonlinear model and whose simulation is faster for more flexible advanced control algorithm testing. This article deals with nowadays urgent issue. It tries to find a way how to achieve as highest probability of current students employment as possible, especially in the age of business crises. It comes from actual industry practice requirements on hiring employees. There is briefly, considering limited range of article, described innovative education concept Educational company, which implies elements of problem based learning with focus on e-learning application and acquirement of soft skills by students. This article shows structure of mentioned concept. There are mentioned differences between traditional and developed education concept. A contribution describes current experiences of all participants, concept benefits and also problems, which this concept faces. There are presented further steps connected with concept development. The experience of concept versatility are very good and show it's high potential. A concept is motivating not only for students but also for the teachers, which are acquiring the new abilities and are getting new knowledge. In the paper, there are presented methods for a precise active control of the acoustic impedance of large planar structures, e.g glass plates or shells, by means of distributed flexible piezoelectric composite actuators which are connected to passive or active electronic shunt circuits. Design of tunable acoustic metamaterials is realized using Finite Element Method simulations and their acoustic properties are evaluated using acoustic transmission loss measurements. Static and dynamic displacements of the metamaterials produced by electric voltage are measured using Digital Holographic Interferometry. We believe that deep understanding of presented systems should result in future applications that improve the quality of everyday life.
