Uplink control information (UCI) and discontinuous reception (DRX) play important roles for massive machine type communication (mMTC). Despite their standalone significance, a conspicuous gap exists in comprehensively exploring the synergy between UCI and DRX concerning both energy conservation and latency reduction for mMTC. In this letter, we propose a UCI-based clustered access and DRX management (UCADM) scheme that strikes a balance between these two critical performance metrics, reducing energy usage while preserving low latency in uplink-downlink interaction for mMTC. Specifically, we present a strictly feasible solution for the proposed UCADM scheme by using the spectral radius and the constraint projection, which can effectively solve DRX switching operations as indicated by scheduling information from UCI. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our scheme. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Discrete chaotic systems based on memristors exhibit excellent dynamical properties and are more straightforward to implement in hardware, making them highly suitable for generating cryptographic keystreams. However, most existing memristor-based chaotic systems rely on a single memristor. This paper introduces a novel discrete chaotic system employing dual memristors, named the 3D memristive cubic map with dual discrete memristors (3D-MCM). The 3D-MCM system demonstrates richer and more intricate dynamical behaviors compared to its single-memristor counterparts, as verified through bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponent spectra, and complexity analyses. Notably, the system exhibits coexisting attractors, substantially enhancing its dynamical complexity. Hardware implementation of the 3D-MCM attractors confirms its feasibility for industrial applications. To illustrate the system's potential in encryption tasks, this study integrates the quaternary-based permutation and dynamic emanating diffusion (QPDED-IE) scheme for image encryption with the *** results demonstrate that the QPDED-IE scheme based on the 3D-MCM exhibits strong diffusion and confusion properties, effectively resisting cryptanalytic attacks. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Google Map-based Password Authentication Systems Using Tolerant Distance and Homomorphic Encryption

Passwords are widely used for authentication in Internet applications. Recently, users tend to adopt graphical passwords instead of traditional alphanumeric passwords, since it is much easier for humans to remember images than verbal representations. However, the existing graphical password authentication systems generally suffer from three main issues. 1) It is required to remember and perform complicated operations during the registration/login phases, which significantly limits the systems' usability;2) The users' passwords are simply stored as plaintexts in servers, and thus the security is compromised;3) The users need to register/login to each server separately when they are applied in multi-server environment. To address the above issues, we propose a user-friendly and secure Google map-based graphical password (FS-GMGP) system using tolerant distance and homomorphic encryption. By using a homomorphic encryption scheme, each user encrypts his password point and response point selected on Google map, while the servers compute and decrypt the distance between the two encrypted points and then compare the resulting value with a tolerant distance for authentication. Moreover, the FS-GMGP system is extended for multi-server environment. The evaluation results and security analysis show that the FS-GMGP and its extended version achieve desirable usability and security in single-server environment and multi-server environment, respectively © 2025 IEEE.

Deterministic quantum communication using the symmetric W state

This study proposes a new coding function for the symmetric W state. Based on the new coding function, a theoretical protocol of deterministic quanama communication （DQC） is proposed. The sender can use the proposed coding function to encode his/her message, and the receiver can perform the imperfect Bell measurement to obtain the sender＇s message. In comparison to the existing DQC protocols that also use the W class state, the proposed protocol is more efficient and also more practical within today＇s technology. Moreover, the security of this protocol is analyzed to show that any eavesdropper will be detected with a very high probability under both the ideal and the noisy quantum channel.

For a linear network code, the encoding profile is specified by, for every output channel of a node, the set of input channels whose symbols upon which the symbol on the output channel depends. For a given single-source network coding problem, it is of fundamental interest to characterize all feasible encoding profiles of a linear network code that achieves the max-flow min-cut bound. We obtain such a characterization through a refinement of the Jaggi-Sanders algorithm due to Barbero and Ytrehus. Our result imply that the design of linear network codes with various constraints and optimization objectives is equivalent to arranging the maximum flows from the source node to the sink nodes. © 2012 IEEE.

OFDM-Based Underwater Integrated Sensing and Communication: Receiver Design for Doubly Spread Acoustic Channels

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology is a promising contender for the future Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT). However, the complexity of underwater acoustic (UWA) channels and the randomness of ISAC signals may pose challenges to underwater communication and sensing. To address this issue, this paper investigates a novel communication-assisted bi-static sensing scheme capable of facilitating underwater multi-node collaboration using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), which refers to as UWA-OFDM-ISAC. Moreover, two efficient receivers are designed based on compressed sensing to enhance communication and sensing performance. In this paper, we first portray the UWA-OFDM-ISAC system model and emphasize that the Doppler and symbols estimated at the communication side are beneficial in enhancing the bi-static sensing performance. To estimate doubly spread UWA channels, an orthogonal matching pursuit-based interference cancellation channel estimation method is developed, which decouples Doppler and delay in OFDM signals and significantly reduces the parameter search dimension. Furthermore, we propose an enhanced detection algorithm based on matching pursuit, which can exploit sparse multipath information of echoes to improve target detection performance under doubly spread channels. The detection probability is improved by more than 30% at the 10-2 bit error rate level compared with the energy detector. Finally, simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed UWA-OFDM-ISAC and demonstrate that the designed receivers have significant advantages relative to various existing algorithms. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Sensing characteristics of a precision aligner using moire gratings for precision alignment sysem has been investigated. A differential moire alignment system and a modified alignment system were used. The influence of the setting accuracy of the gap length and inclination of gratings on the alignment accuracy has been studied experimentally and theoretically. Setting accuracy of the gap length less than 2.5μm is required in modified moire alignment. There is no influence of the gap length on the alignment accuracy in the differential alignment system. The inclination affects alignment accuracies in both differential and modified moire alignment systems.

Alzheimer’s disease is a deadly neurological condition, impairing important memory and brain functions. Alzheimer’s disease promotes brain shrinkage, ultimately leading to dementia. Dementia diagnosis typically takes 2.8 to 4.4 years after the first clinical indication. Advancements in computing and information technology have led to many techniques of studying Alzheimer’s disease. Early identification and therapy are crucial for preventing Alzheimer’s disease, as early-onset dementia hits people before the age of 65, while late-onset dementia occurs after this age. According to the 2015 World Alzheimer’s disease Report, there are 46.8 million individuals worldwide suffering from dementia, with an anticipated 74.7 million more by 2030 and 131.5 million by 2050. Deep Learning has outperformed conventional Machine Learning techniques by identifying intricate structures in high-dimensional data. Convolutional Neural network (CNN) and Recurrent Neural network (RNN), have achieved an accuracy of up to 96.0% for Alzheimer’s disease classification, and 84.2% for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) conversion prediction. There have been few literature surveys available on applying ML to predict dementia, lacking in congenital observations. However, this survey has focused on a specific data channel for dementia detection. This study evaluated Deep Learning algorithms for early Alzheimer’s disease detection, using openly accessible datasets, feature segmentation, and classification methods. This article also has identified research gaps and limits in detecting Alzheimer’s disease, which can inform future research. © 2025, CC BY.

Tag-based physical-layer authentication (PLA) has gained significant research interest due to its high security and low complexity compared to traditional upper-layer authentication mechanisms. However, conventional tag-based PLA schemes often require strict synchronization between the tag and the source message before transmission, which may limit their practicality and effectiveness. To address this limitation, we propose an asynchronous tag-based PLA scheme, where the tag and the source message are transmitted asynchronously with an intentional time delay introduced at the transmitter. The proposed scheme enhances both compatibility and security without compromising robustness. We provide a theoretical analysis of the proposed scheme, and derive closed-form expressions to characterize its performance. Furthermore, theoretical comparisons with existing methods yield insightful conclusions regarding the advantages of the proposed approach. The scheme is implemented and extensively evaluated through simulations, where the theoretical results exhibit strong agreement with the simulation outcomes, thereby validating its effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.

In the fields of computational biology and healthcare systems, there is a growing use of genomic data from cancer to improve diagnostic accuracy and to formulate patient-specific tumor treatment strategies. Cancer genomics allow researchers to define the genome instabilities and mutations associated with tumor growth, poor diagnosis, and immune cells heterogeneity in the cancer context. This molecular taxonomy of cancer provides a more precise diagnosis to better fight solid tumors and enhance the treatment strategy. Single-cell RNA sequencing techniques in cancer re-search enable the detailed examination of gene expression on a cell-by-cell basis, shedding light on the diversity within the tumor microenvironment. In addition, they can reconstruct evolutionary lineages and detect rare subpopulations. It is important to perform pan-cancer analysis to examine the similarities and dissimilarities in different tumor microenvironments. This study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of T-cell populations across breast, colorectal, liver, lung, and pancreatic cancers, unveiling T-cell heterogeneity and gene expression patterns specific to these tumors. By analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing data from breast, colorectal, liver, lung, and pancreatic cancers, our research fills a crucial gap in understanding the diverse immune environments of these malignancies. The study highlights similarities and differences in T-cell populations across these cancers, providing insights for cancer immunotherapy strategies. Our insights into gene expression correlations with tumor progression have significant implications for immunotherapy strategies, suggesting potential biomarkers for personalized treatment approaches and highlighting key molecular targets for future therapeutic development. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
