Classification of arrhythmia using ECG data is a crucial task in medical diagnosis. Early detection of arrhythmia can greatly improve patient outcomes and reduce the risk of complications. However, traditional methods of arrhythmia detection require the collection and analysis of 24 hours of ECG data, which can be time-consuming and inconvenient for patients. By using deep learning algorithms to classify arrhythmia based on ECG data, the time required to detect arrhythmia can be greatly reduced. These algorithms can automatically identify patterns in the ECG data that are indicative of arrhythmia and make a diagnosis in a matter of minutes, rather than hours or days. While this can not replace the utilization of ECG, it does have applications in smart wearables such as smart watches with ECG functionality, which can warn the wearer for arrhythmia. © 2023 IEEE.

Image segmentation is one of the most important processes involved in image processing. Segmenting an image is breaking it up into smaller pieces, or segments. These are the areas where it is most helpful because processing the complete image would be inefficient for tasks like object recognition or image compression. Image segmentation is the process of dividing an image's elements for further processing. This article looked at a number of image segmentation techniques, including the threshold approach, edge-based method, and clustering-based method. The segmentation method that is most effective for separating images in OCT images is clustering-based segmentation. To reduce the speckle noise during preprocessing, the wiener filter approach is used. With regards to the threshold, edge-based (Sobel, Canny, Robert's), and clustering-based segmentation techniques, calculate MSE (mean square error) and PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) values for the segmented image quality. © 2023 IEEE.

An improved multi-scale convolutional neural network with gated recurrent neural network model for protein secondary structure prediction

Protein structure prediction is one of the main research areas in the field of Bio-informatics. The importance of proteins in drug design attracts researchers for finding the accurate tertiary structure of the protein which is dependent on its secondary structure. In this paper, we focus on improving the accuracy of protein secondary structure prediction. To do so, a Multi-scale convolutional neural network with a Gated recurrent neural network (MCNN-GRNN) is proposed. The novel amino acid encoding method along with layered convolutional neural network and Gated recurrent neural network blocks helps to retrieve local and global relationships between features, which in turn effectively classify the input protein sequence into 3 and 8 states. We have evaluated our algorithm on CullPDB, CB513, PDB25, CASP10, CASP11, CASP12, CASP13, and CASP14 datasets. We have compared our algorithm with different state-of-the-art algorithms like DCNN-SS, DCRNN, MUFOLD-SS, DLBLS_SS, and CGAN-PSSP. The Q3 accuracy of the proposed algorithm is 82–87% and Q8 accuracy is 69–77% on different datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Impact of oxymoron features and deep learning techniques in the detection of sarcastic contents

Even though various features have been investigated in the detection of figurative language, oxymoron features have not been considered in the classification of sarcastic content. The main objective of this work is to present a system that can automatically classify sarcastic phrases in multi-domain data. This multi-domain dataset consisting of 67850 sarcastic and non-sarcastic data is collected from various websites to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic utterances. Multiple approaches are examined in this work to improve sarcasm identification: 1. A Combination of fasttext embedding, syntactic, semantic, lexical n-gram, and oxymoron features 2. TF-IDF feature weighting scheme 3. Three machine learning algorithms (SVM, Multinomial Naïve Bayes, and Random Forest), three deep learning algorithms (CNN, LSTM, MLP), and one ensemble model (CNN + LSTM) The CNN + LSTM model achieves a Precision of 91.32%, Recall of 92.85%, F-Score of 92.08%, accuracy of 92.01%, and Kappa of 0.84 by combining the fasttext embedding, bigram, syntactic, semantic, and oxymoron features with TF-IDF method. These experimental results show CNN + LSTM with a combination of all features outperforms the other algorithms in classifying the sarcasm in both datasets. The sarcasm classification performance of our dataset and another sarcasm news dataset was compared while applying the above model. © 2024 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Secure SSI framework using the optimized Orkey identity schema

In the era of digital transformation and increasing concerns regarding data privacy, the concept of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) has attained substantial recognization. SSI offers individuals greater control over their personal information and reduces reliance on centralized authorities for identity verification. However, existing SSI frameworks face challenges in terms of scalability, privacy, and competence. This paper introduces a noivel Secure SSI Framework based on the Optimized OrKey Identity Schema (OIS) for Inter-organizational business processes (IOBP). The Optimized OrKey Identity Schema optimizes data storage and retrieval, reducing the computational overhead associated with identity verification. The pigeon's communicative and mimicry behavior of pigeon-inspired optimization (PIO) as well as the flamingo's foraging and migratory patterns of the Flamingo Search Algorithm (FSA) served as the basis for the proposed Flamieon-inspired optimization method. A Verifiable Data Credential is introduced to combine the elements of verifiable credentials and the Blockchain method to improve the security and trustworthiness of sharing data and verification in a decentralized manner. The proposed OIS methods achieve a value of 4.00% for Anonymization, 9989.57 for Gas ratio, 7445.70 KB for Memory usage, 17.32% for Network hash rate, 5.07 ms for Transaction latency, and 41,234.82 ms for Transaction Time. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

The agriculture industry's production and food quality have been impacted by plant leaf diseases in recent years. Hence, it is vital to have a system that can automatically identify and diagnose diseases at an initial stage for enhancing the quality of agricultural output and also for stopping the overall plant extinction. Most state-of-the-art methods do not provide appropriate accuracy of identification when the similarity among different diseases is higher and the input leaf images have complex background. In this work, a transfer learning-based automated crop disease recognition system is proposed to handle this problem. The cotton leaf disease detection framework being proposed here includes two key stages: (1) the feature extraction stage, where the convolutional neural network (CNN) model from the visual geometry group (VGG-16) is employed to obtain the deep features from cotton leaf images with complex background. (2) Cotton leaf disease detection stage: Here, the extracted optimal features are input to the machine learning classifiers, namely random forest (RF) and nonlinear support vector machine (SVM), for the initial classification of the diseases. For providing an optimal cotton crop disease detection performance, Kaggle’s four-class cotton disease dataset with complex background is chosen in this work. For the final decision making and analysis, two hybrid models named spatial attention-based hybrid VGG-RF and hybrid VGG-SVM have been proposed in this work for enhancing the decision accuracy. These hybrid models offered an average accuracy of approximately 98.29% and 99.31%, respectively, which is higher than the accuracy provided by the related work. This proved that the proposed hybrid model, namely spatial attention-based VGG-SVM and VGG-RF models, with spatial attention outperformed the state-of-the-art classifiers. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Pyram: a robust and attack-resistant perceptual image hashing using pyramid histogram of gradients

Perceptual image hashing is a significant and time-effective method for recognizing images within extensive databases, focusing on achieving two key objectives: robustness and discrimination. The right balance between these two aspects remains a significant challenge in contemporary hashing research. Moreover, many image hashing algorithms face limitations when performing satisfactorily against specific image processing attacks, such as rotation. With this in mind, a rotation correction based perceptual image hashing system is designed called as Pyram using a pyramid histogram of gradients (PHOG). The system exploits the properties of log polar transform for invariance to geometric distortions and then the PHOG in blocks for generating the final hash vector. In computing hash similarity, the correlation is employed as the metric of choice. The trade-off between robustness and discrimination is evaluated on benchmark databases against single and double attacks. Furthermore, the comprehensive experiments further confirm that the PHOG method consistently delivers better accuracy than its state-of-the-art methods. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Because of recent COVID-19 epidemic, the Internet-of-Medical-Things (IoMT) has acquired a significant impetus to diagnose patients remotely, regulate medical equipment, and track quarantined patients via smart electronic devices installed at the patient’s end. Nevertheless, the IoMT confronts various security and privacy issues, such as entity authentication, confidentiality, and integrity of health-related data, among others, rendering this technology vulnerable to different attacks. To address these concerns, a number of security procedures based on traditional cryptographic approaches, such as discrete logarithm and integer factorization problems, have been developed. All of these protocols, however, are vulnerable to quantum attacks. This paper, in this context, presents a data authentication and access control protocol for IoMT systems that can withstand quantum attacks. A comprehensive formal security assessment demonstrates that the proposed algorithm can endure both current and future threats. Adaptive Attention Mechanisms Based Multicriteria Recommender Systems for Improved User Preference Discovery

Personalized recommender systems are becoming more popular to reduce the issue of information overload. It is also observed that the recommendations provided by multi-criteria recommender system (MCRS) are more accurate and precise in comparison to conventional single-criteria recommender systems. MCRS incorporates customers’ preferences based on multiple criteria while recommending any item. Recent research has shown that MCRS can efficiently use implicit and explicit input across various dimensions to make exact recommendations across multiple domains. Due to use of multiple criteria, existing MCRS methods often struggle with effectively aggregating and interpreting these criteria, making it hard to accurately determine user preferences. In this article, we introduce a novel adaptive attention mechanism that dynamically assigns weights to each criterion based on user preferences. Each criterion is initially weighted based on its importance to a user. An attention mechanism is used to understand the exact user’s preference for each criterion. Later, the nearest-neighbor method finds users with similar interest to predict unknown ratings which is further used for Top-N recommendations. The performance of the proposed approach (AM-MCRS) is validated on Yahoo! movies multi-criteria dataset having 1716 unique users and 965 different movies and a comparative analysis is performed with existing single and multi-criteria recommender systems. The results clearly show that the AM-MCRS methodology outperform baseline methods, achieving the highest precision (0.9412), F-score (0.9343), accuracy (0.929), and coverage (0.9407), while also observing a significant reduction in MAE (0.7623) and RMSE (0.9145). These findings highlight the capability of AM-MCRS to improve recommendation accuracy and dependability across various domains. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A moment-based pooling approach in convolutional neural networks for breast cancer histopathology image classification

Automated analysis of breast cancer (BC) histopathology images is a challenging task due to the high resolution, multiple magnifications, color variations, the presence of image artifacts, and morphological variability in the tissue images, often resulting in misdiagnosis. We propose four CNN models using a novel Zernike moments (ZMs)-based pooling approach, which replaces the existing global average pooling for the effective classification, referred to as CZP-CNN, MZP-CNN, SPMZP-CNN, and SPCZP-CNN. We utilize the ZMs-based pooling at three intermediate and last convolution layers. Of the four models, the two models, SPMZP-CNN and SPCZP-CNN, employ spatial pyramidal structures of feature maps to represent global and local characteristics of the feature maps. They effectively integrate the ZMs of various orders derived from the pyramidal representation of a feature map, representing the global and local aspects of shape and fine morphological details. The ability of ZMs is fully utilized to capture shape and morphological information available in the feature map using only a few low-order moments, which adds to the robustness of the proposed approach. Detailed experimental results on the publicly available BreaKHis dataset with four magnification levels and on the high-resolution BACH dataset demonstrate the proposed models’ effectiveness, robustness, and generalization ability. Among these proposed models, the complex ZMs-based SPCZP-CNN model achieves an impressive mean classification accuracy of 94.16% on the BreaKHis dataset and overall best binary and multiclass classification accuracy of 96.25% and 93.75% on the BACH dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
