Messages in Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation systems (C-ITS) are secured using cryptography to ensure authenticity and authorization. However, this cannot prevent the semantical incorrectness of the message, which can be caused by either faulty sensors or malicious intent. This misbehavior must be detected and mitigated by receiving stations to prevent harm. Further, misbehaving stations need to be sanctioned by informing their manufacturer, owner, or evicting them from the C-ITS to protect other systems proactively. This misbehavior detection management process of detection, reporting, and sanctioning will be part of European and American Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS). For research in this domain, we propose the Artery 4 Misbehavior Detection (A4MD) framework, building on the Artery V2X simulation framework and Framework for Misbehavior Detection (F2MD) for the European C-ITS. The framework's capabilities are shown by an evaluation of the Misbehavior Reporting protocol proposed in ETSI TR 103 460.

Today, we are faced with a huge variety of multimedia and collaborative applications, networks and end-systems. The resulting heterogeneous environment imposes new challenges on transport systems. To meet the requirements of heterogeneous receivers in multi-point communication, a communication framework based on a so-called group mediator is outlined. Group mediators are located within the network and provide multicast support for CSCW and multimedia applications. QoS filters are discussed as group mediator modules. Initial work on signalling filter functions is presented.

Platooning is able to improve fuel efficiency and reduce road congestion. But to maximize the concept's impact, platoons need to be created dynamically whenever feasible. Therefore, vehicles have to cooperate with unknown and possibly malicious partners, creating new safety hazards. Hence, vehicles need to be able to determine the trustworthiness of their cooperators. This paper proposes TriP, a trust model which rates platoon members by the divergence of their reported to their actual behavior. The proposed model is evaluated against attacks from literature. The evaluation demonstrates that TriP detects all attacks and prevents harm by deploying countermeasures thus mitigating safety hazards.

networks in the area of factory automation, named field buses, have been developed to fulfill real time requirements. However, they can only cover areas such as factory halls or buildings. The paper describes a model for an internetworking unit connecting field buses via ATM networks, in order to break these limits. A remote bridge is used to span longer distances between field bus components in a separated field bus. The second version of a bridge acts like a multiport bridge connecting several independent field buses. The emphasis is laid on the investigation of the quality of service requirements the transport channel provided by the ATM network has to meet. By means of the widespread field bus PROFIBUS, standardized by the German standardization office, the implications for real time applications and system behavior are considered.

Wireless Sensor networks (WSN) now advance into areas where new scenarios and applications require WSNs to meet certain Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. To tackle these challenges, a routing approach has to consider limited energy supply of sensor nodes, dynamic network conditions as well as node mobility. This paper presents QoS-AODV6E, a routing scheme based on the Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol, which encompasses QoS and Energy-Awareness for mobile WSNs. Based on the reactive AODV routing protocol, QoS-AODV6E allows applications to specify QoS parameters and finds suitable routes that support their requirements. In order to prolong the lifetime of the network, QoS-AODV6E balances the energy consumption between different paths through the network based on the weakest node. We evaluate our implementation of QoS-AODV6E in Contiki using simulation and measurements.

Wireless video streaming is an area of extensive research due to the error-prone nature of the radio channel with variations in throughput and delay. In mobile networks, handovers may lead to further service degradation. Therefore adaptation has to be applied in order to cope with these challenges. This paper introduces a new two-level proxy architecture, which addresses the aforementioned issues. The first level proxy provides media adaptation to the requirements of its clients by using transcoding techniques and thereby supports many different mobile devices. The second level proxy is supposed to perform adaptation to the radio channel by using FGS-coding as well as unequal error protection. We also discuss handover QoS issues and approaches for signaling with service composition. Our two-level design is highly flexible and provides efficient, scalable and low-latency mobile streaming video. Besides, it provides better core network resource utilization while solving wireless channel problems where they occur.

Resource management in active network nodes is challenging because more types and amount of resources are needed compared with traditional networks, and the consumption of different types of resources is not equally balanced. Hence, it is possible and important to consider the relationship between different types of resources, needed by an application. Adaptation of applications resource usages in network nodes enables the applications to react promptly to the resource status in the network nodes and therefore offers a better performance guarantee and more flexibility to the applications. This paper studies the resource management in active network nodes considering the relationship among different types of resources. The resource vectors (RVs) are introduced to describe the resource requirements of applications and their adaptation capabilities. And an adaptive resource management mechanism based on RV is proposed and the implementation of it in an active node is given.

Today we are faced with an increasing variety of networks and end systems. The resulting heterogeneous environment imposes new challenges on communication support for multimedia and collaborative applications. AMnet is an approach that provides multipoint communication support for large-scale groups with heterogeneous receivers. Active network nodes are used to deliver data streams with user-tailored QoS. They provide so-called QoS filters that remove information from continuous media streams in order to reduce data rate for low-end receivers without affecting high-end receivers. A prototype implementation of AMnet based on RSVP Filer is presented.

In mobile applications, like wireless sensor networks, it is often inevitable to use a location-independent source of energy. Wherever the batteries capacity or inefficient energy harvesting limits the lifetime, other solutions have to be implemented to increase the energy efficiency. Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) is a well known technique with the ability to adapt the voltage level to the actual system load to save energy. While it has been used in many application areas, DVS has not been studied sufficiently for wireless sensor nodes. In this paper, we present a method to estimate the gain of DVS. We study DVS theoretically as well as in a practical manner, i.e., we using a prototype implementation of a DVS capable wireless sensor node. With the theoretical considerations we were able to optimize DVS for an 8-Bit ULP micro controller by a combination of DVS and dynamic power management (DPM). In addition, we proved the calculated results with an extensive practical evaluation of the concept using a prototypical implementation. Moreover, we analysed the effect of voltage scaling on other components of the sensor node (transceiver, sensors and memory).
