ServiceBSP model is presented as an extension of BSP model with a view to the advantages of BSP model in grid environment where large-scale and geographically distributed resources (abstracted as services) are available. In this paper, we advocate a preferable service broker framework to support the services selection policy that could optimize the services selection for ServiceBSP model. It means that the services selection can increase the level of satisfaction measured by overall quality value and decrease execution time by considering services dependent relation and location in a subtask group. Meanwhile, the policy is preliminary work ensuring reasonable distribution of services and loading balance in ServiceBSP model. In an addition, we give a detailed process of services selection based on heuristic greedy algorithm. Finally, by comparing response time and price using proposed policy with other policy only considering QoS, the experimental simulation shows that our services selection policy possesses superior performance on response time and then provides satisfactory result for users.

In this paper, we present the electro-optical characteristics of EL devices made by SVA. A Sawyer-Tower circuit has been set up to evaluate the luminous efficiency based on the measurements of luminance and transferred charge of the EL device. A program is developed to plot the luminance and efficiency as a function of voltage from the input of measurement data. These plots are useful for evaluating the performance of the EL devices and providing feedback for the optimization of thin film structure and processing parameters. When the modulation voltage is 30 V, it is shown that the luminance and efficiency of the yellow (ZnS: Mn) EL device is L30 =250 cd/m2 and η30 = 1.3 lm/W, respectively. Furthermore , the color spectra and the CIE color coordinates of various EL samples (green and blue) developed by SVA are evaluated and discussed.

Motivated by the requirements of archaeologists we are developing an automated system for acquisition, documentation and management of daily finds of excavations. These daily finds can be separated into large objects like remainders of architecture and small objects of ancient daily life - like ceramics and coins. Ceramics especially are found in numbers of tens of thousands on virtually every excavation, because ceramics have been in use for thousands of years. Until the present day these finds are documented by manual drawings. There is a similar situation in the case of coins, where manual drawings are often used to abstract them from photographs. Therefore we propose an automated acquisition and documentation system based on digital cameras and structured light for small findings. For ceramics we provide further processing to estimate horizontal cross-sections (profile-lines) for printed documentation, as it is done by manual drawing. For this a proper orientation of the acquired 3D-model is required and automatically estimated based on the assumption that ceramics were made on rotational plates (wheels). We are aware that ceramics might not always have been manufactured on rotational plates, because the wheel was not invented everywhere as for the example in the Americas. Even though ceramics from such areas appear to be rotational symmetric, we developed a method based on shape and symmetry analysis to determine the manufacturing techniques of ceramics. This helps to answer another archaeological question regarding the technological advance of an ancient culture. Results for accuracy and performance are shown on real data from recent interdisciplinary projects together with archaeologists from Austria, Germany, Israel and Peru. Furthermore we present preliminary results of the integration of coin classification in our documentation system. Illegal trade and theft of coins appears to be a major part of the illegal antiques market. image based recognition of coins could substantially contribute to fight against it. Central component in the permanent identification and traceability of coins is the underlying classification and identification technology. The first step of a computer aided system is the segmentation of the coin in the image. Next, a feature extraction process measures the coin in order to describe the coin unambiguously. In this paper, we focus on the segmentation task, followed by a comparison of features relevant for coin classification. Results of the algorithms implemented are presented for an image database of ancient coins. © The Eurographics Association 2007.

This paper introduces a new class of switching vector median filter. The proposed algorithm first uses four directional masks to analyze the color difference between the central pixel and its neighborhood pixels in the RGB color space and classify each color pixel into noisy pixel or noise-free one, and then employs the standard vector median filtering operations in the detected noisy locations to restore the corrupted pixels and leave the noise-free ones unchanged. The simulation results show that the proposed method excellently suppresses impulsive noise as well as preserving the image details well, and significantly outperforms the existing vector filtering solutions in terms of both the objective measures and the perceptual visual quality.

Video surveillance and object tracking have drawn increased interests in recent years. This paper addresses the problem of moving object tracking from image sequences captured from stationary cameras. Based on the previous work on video segmentation using joint space-time-range mean shift, we extend the scheme to enable the tracking of moving objects. Large displacements of pdf modes in consecutive image frames are exploited for tracking. We also improve the above mean shift-based video segmentation by introducing edge-guided merging of over-segmented regions. This can be viewed as an extension of the enhanced mean shift 2D image segmentation in [2] to the enhanced space-time-range mean shift video segmentation. Experiments have been conducted on several indoor and outdoor videos. Our preliminary results and performance evaluation have indicated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Local image descriptors have proved themselves as useful tools for many computer vision tasks such as matching points between multiple images of a scene and object recognition. Current descriptors, such as SIFT, are designed to match image features with unique local neighborhoods. However, the interest point detectors used with SIFT often fail to select perceptible local structures in the image, and the SIFT descriptor does not directly encode the local neighborhood shape. In this paper we propose a symmetry based interest point detector and radial local structure descriptor which consistently captures the majority of basic local image structures and provides a geometrical description of the structure boundaries. This approach concentrates on the extraction of shape properties in image patches, which are an intuitive way to represent local appearance for matching and classification. We explore the specificity and sensitivity of this local descriptor in the context of classification of natural patterns. The implications of the performance comparison with standard approaches like SIFT are discussed.

In face recognition, the dimensionality of raw data is very high, dimension reduction (feature extraction) should be applied before classification. There exist several feature extraction methods, commonly used are principle component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) techniques. In this paper, we present a comparative study of some feature extraction methods for face recognition in the same conditions. The methods evaluated here include eigenfaces, kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), fisherfaces, direct linear discriminant analysis (D-LDA), regularized linear discriminant analysis (R-LDA), and kernel direct discriminant analysis (KDDA). For the purpose of comparison on feature extraction methods, we adopt nearest neighbor (NN) algorithm from existed classifiers of face recognition, since this classifier is common and simpleness. Empirical studies are conducted to evaluate these feature extraction methods with images from ORL Face Database, and it is found that in most cases LDA-based methods are efficient than PCA-based ones.

With microarray data being dramatically accumulated, integrating data from related studies represents a natural way to increase sample size so that more reliable statistical analysis may be performed. However, inherent variation among different microarray platforms makes the data integration not a trivial task. In this paper, we present a simple and effective integration scheme, called normalized linear transform (NLT), to combine data from different microarray platforms. The NLT scheme is compared with three other integration schemes for two tasks: classification analysis and gene marker selection. Our experiments demonstrate that the NLT scheme performs best in terms of classification accuracy under various classification settings, and leads to more biologically significant marker genes.

we present in this paper an empirical desired headway model for a single lane car-following theory based on the equation of motion of each *** this new model,traffic situation is suggested to be divided into car-following and free travel regions,and in car-following area the stimulus is a function of space difference between the current headway and the empirical desired headway with a constant *** investigate this model with numerical method and it demonstrates some complex physical features observed in real traffic such as existence of three phases:free,synchronized,and jam flow;spontaneous formation of traffic jams;sudden flow drop in flow- density plane;local cluster effects in synchronized regime;traffic hysteresis in transition between the free and the synchronized ***,the proposed model also predicts that in the synchronized flow regime there exists a unique stable state to relative density,which is insusceptible to noise.
