Environmental consequences of an ultra-low emission retrofit in coal-fired power plants from a life cycle perspective

To make coal-fired power generation more environmentally friendly,China has initiated a series of ultra-low emission ret-rofits to the air pollution control(APC)system of the existing power *** this study,a life cycle assessment(LCA)is conducted to analyze the environmental net benefits for the typical ultra-low emission retrofit of a 1000 MW power *** key processes,substances,and APC devices are verified and *** results confirm that the retrofit effectively decreases the environmental stress of acidification potential(AP),eutrophication potential(EP),and photochemical ozone creation potential(POCP)by 69%-79%,which can be attributed to significantly reduced emissions at the ***,the retrofit has also increased other impact categories by 24%-79%,primarily due to the consumption of additional elec-tricity and *** retrofit of selective catalytic reduction,electrostatic precipitator(ESP),and wet limestone flue gas desulfurization devices has a dominant effect on the impacts of EP,human toxicity potential(HTP),and AP.A newly installed wet ESP shows some environmental benefits(only for AP),but causes considerable burdens,in particular for the investigated impact categories global warming potential(GWP),marine aquatic ecotoxicity(MAETP),and abiotic depletion fossil(ADP fossil).The obtained results indicate that the hidden environmental consequences,which are associated with the production of energy and materials,need to be examined more comprehensively to inform the development of ultra-low emission technologies and strategies effectively.

The influence of components with distributed parameters on the stability of the numerical procedure of dynamic modes of the heterogeneous systems is considered. Compared to existing methods of matching of subcircuit solutions, a more sensitive method of considering the dynamics of their change is proposed, which allows one to effectively predict the matching step of subcircuits. The algorithm of control of stability of the computational procedure of the transient process in components with distributed parameters, considering their boundary conditions, is developed. A software module for solving hyperbolic equations by Lax-type method has been developed for modelling a subsystem with distributed parameters, such as transmission lines. The input parameters of the module are the voltage at the beginning and the current at the end of the line, the output parameters - the voltage at the end and the current at the beginning of the line. The implemented module uses the advanced Lax method for the component with distributed parameters, and implicit Euler method for the component with lumped parameters. Comparison of the results of the calculation of the test scheme with known softwares was performed in order to determine the calculated stability of the procedure of analysis of electric circuits with such components.

When the smart grid data acquisition system is attacked by false data injection, because the measured data is tampered, the wrong state estimation will lead to the wrong action of the smart grid controller. This paper proposes a dynamic phasor estimation method considering false data injection attack. Firstly, the electrical signal model suitable for dynamic conditions is established by Taylor series expansion of the electrical signals which include harmonic, noise and other conditions; Then, the method which based on the double suboptimal-scaling factor strong tracking Kalman filter algorithm (DSTKF) and Euclidean distance is used to detect, track and estimate the phasor; Finally, the proposed estimation method is used to simulate the electrical signal with noise and false data attack. Besides, the signal of IEEE 39-bus system is also estimated with this method. The results show that this proposed method can not only detect the false data attack and mutation in electrical signal, but also has high estimation accuracy and tracking ability for dynamic phasor.

The safe and stable operation of the generator set is related to the national economy and people's livelihood. As an important part of generator excitation system, carbon brush and slip ring temperature monitoring can effectively evaluate the state of the generator, which plays a vital role. Most of the current researches use infrared images to monitor carbon brush temperature, but there are often problems such as high noise and unclear focus. According to the requirements of infrared image display, this paper combines the method of bistable stochastic resonance to denoise the image, and on this basis, introduces the adaptive stochastic resonance array method to denoise the gray image. Experimental results show that compared with common image denoising methods and classic bistable stochastic resonance, the adaptive stochastic resonance array method has improved both visual effects and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), which further proves the good application of stochastic resonance in weak signal detection and extraction. © 2021 IEEE

It is preferable for the retired batteries to balance their states-of-health (SOH) in the battery energy storage system (BESS) since it can prolong the system lifetime and reduce the maintenance burden. So far, the corresponding balancing techniques mainly focus on either the SOH balancing among packs or the SOH balancing of cells inside a pack. This article further proposes the multilayer SOH equalization scheme to equalize all cells' SOHs of large-scale BESS by comprehensively combining the pack SOH balancing strategy and the commercial cell equalization techniques. It is noted that the balancing schemes for pack and cell cannot be simply superimposed since packs and cells have totally different connection modes and are equipped with different types of balancing circuits. In specific, the modular multilevel converter (MMC) is assumed to coordinate the pack and cell SOH equalization schemes, where the charging/discharging power per submodule is properly adjusted according to the extent of cell SOH deviation and the extent of pack SOH deviation together. MATLAB simulation and experimental results of a 10-kWh MMC-BESS prototype verified the performance of the proposed method. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

High speed and high pressure can enhance the vibration of axial piston pump. A fluid vibration transmission law of axial piston pump is studied in this paper. According to harmonic response analysis results, a transmission path analysis is used to establish a two-dimensional fluid vibration transmission path model in the vertical plane, which has characteristics of multi excitation sources, multi-path and multi-receptors. Model parameters are obtained by experimental and numerical analysis. Matlab is used to solve the model, and acceleration vibration response of three shells is got. To reduce the effect of mechanical vibration, the surface acceleration of pump is tested under low speed condition. Results show that the model can accurately reveal transmission law of fluid vibration and the accuracy is more than 90%. The research lays a foundation for exploring vibration transmission law and vibration control.

With the research in wind turbine wake deepening, frequency characteristics are gaining more attention. Data-driven methods are usually adopted to analyze the wake performance. In this paper, a frequency characteristics-based clustering procedure is proposed to decompose the wind turbine wake into clusters, of which the wake frequency-domain performance and dynamic wake evolution process can be analyzed. The proposed procedure first calculates the frequency amplitudes of the measured velocity time-series on every measurement point in space, then decomposes the wake according to the amplitudes using a clustering algorithm. Take the centroid in each cluster as an example, dominant frequency characteristics are analyzed, which show the wake meandering frequency while help the understanding of the dynamic wake evolution.

In this paper, we propose a positioning algorithm based on sonar images, which is mainly used for the positioning of underwater robots, so that the robots can obtain the position information in real time when operating underwater and avoid colliding with the underwater walls. First, the underwater space was detected with multibeam sonar, and the sonar images of the underwater space wall were found to have line segment characteristics; Composite denoising, threshold segmentation and Canny edge detection are applied to the sonar image to extract the contours of the underwater spatial wall. Then the characteristic line segments of the underwater spatial wall are detected based on the LSD (Line Segment Detector) line segment detection algorithm. In terms of line segment classification, a method is proposed to effectively classify line segments using the origin of the sonar image and the slope of the detected line segment. To further demonstrate the effectiveness of the localization algorithm in this paper, the specific steps of the algorithm are illustrated with the example of underwater rectangular space.

Spatially Extended Sound Source Reconstruction Based on the Non-Synchronous Measurements of Microphone Arrays and Bayesian Compressive Sensing

The traditional near-field acoustic holography technology (NAH) needs to adapt to the Nyquist sampling theorem, which requires numerous sampling points to be arranged on the holography plane to obtain accurate sound source reconstruction results. The Non-synchronous Measurements (NSM) was proposed to enhance the accuracy of reconstruction and reduce the measurement cost. However, the investigated object of conventional NSM are only sparsely distributed sound sources, and limited attention is paid to the reconstructed accuracy of the spatially extended sound source. In this article, the traditional NSM is further investigated in the spatially extended sound source, and the sound pressure information is reconstructed by Bayesian compressive sensing algorithm (BCS). Firstly, the spatially extended sound source is scanned by moving the rectangular microphone array, and the measurement effects of the microphone array with large aperture and high density are approximately obtained by using NSM technique. Then, BCS is applied to reconstruct sound field by the NSM of sound pressure. The results of numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed study is applicable to the spatially extended sound source. NSM has advantages in reconstruction accuracy compared with the single measurement. At the same time, the reconstructed sound pressure under NSM can replace the simultaneous measurement(SM) results of multi-array without reference microphone, which avoids the limitation of using reference microphone in increasing the number of channels and spatial layout. The effectiveness and feasibility of the investigation are further proved by the experimental results of the driven steel plate. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
