Banham:holds positions both as Director of the Machinery Automation Systems Department of the Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station and as Assistant Chairman of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department of Drexel University's Evening College where he holds the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor. He is the author of a text on Numerical Methods Applications in Engineering. In addition to numerous technical papers he is also the author of the ISA film on Boiler Feedwater Control Systems. A registered professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania Mr. Banham is co-author of a forthcoming handbook on preparing for the Professional Engineering Examination in mechanical engineering. Mr. Banham holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University his graduate studies were taken at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and the Instrument Society of America. He served as a member of the ISA Education Committee from 1964 through 1973 and as a member of the ISA Power Plant Dynamics Committee since 1969. His service on the latter committee includes terms as Executive Secretary Vice-Chairman and Chairman. Among other honors Mr. Banham was the winner of the Naval Ship Engineering Center's first Technical Achievement Award (1963) Technical Publication Award (1974) and Equal Employment Opportunity Award (1978). He was also the recipient of Drexel University's Laura S. Campbell Award for Excellence in Teaching (1978). He has taught undergraduate courses in classical control theory numerical methods computer programming systems design and analysis and instrumentation. He was awarded an IEE prize for best final-year project. His current research interests include the modelling of electromagnetic fields using parallel processing techniques. At present Mr Tan is working as an electrical engineer in Malaysia. Vincent F. Fusco was educated at The Queen's University of Belfast where he obtained the degree of Ph.D. He has worked as a research engineer on short-range radar and radio telementry systems. Currently he is a Reader in Microwave Commnications in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science The Queen's Univeristy of Belfast. His current research interests include non-linear microwave circuit simulation and concurrent programming techniques for electromagnetic field problems. He has acted as consultant to a number of major companies and has published numerous research papers in these areas. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1957 his M.B.A. degree from Wayne State University in 1964 his M.S. degree in Physics from the University of California at Davis in 1967 and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Livermore in 1970. In 1957 he was employed by the Chrysler Missile Division Warren Mich. where he designed circuits for the Redstoneand Jupitermissiles. In 1959 he joined the Staff of the Bendix Research Laboratory Southfield Mich. where he designed equipment for missile guidance systems and aircraft blind landing systems. From 1965 until 1968 he was a Research Assistant in the Artificial Intelligence Group Lawrence Radiation Laboratory. Livermore Calif at which time he left to join the Heuristics Laboratory of the National Institutes of Health Bethesda Md. as a Computer Scientist. In 1974 he moved to the Computer Science Laboratory at the Naval Research Laboratory. Washington D.C. where he is currently employed on various Research Projects. Mr. Herbert A. Johnson graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and later continued his graduate studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Purdue University. receiving his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the latter. He is presently a Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and Head of the Ocean Instrumentation Branch. Ocean Technology Division Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). Prior to joining NRL in 1974 he was employed on various marine systems projects at Honeywell and on Polarisinstrumentation at Interstate Electronics a company he assisted in founding in 1956. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Dr. James R. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Kyoto university Japan in 1992 and 1994 respectively. From 1994 to 1998 he was a Research Associate in the Department of Information Technology Okayama University. Since April 1998 he has been a Research Associate in the Graduate School of Informatics Kyoto University. His current research interests include robust control and control system design via mathematical programming. Yutaka Yamamoto received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Kyoto University Kyoto Japan in 1972 and 1974 respectively and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Florida in 1976 and 1978 respectively. From 1978 to 1987 he was with Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics Kyoto University and from 1987 to 1997 with Department of Applied System Science. Since 1998 he is a professor at the current position. His current research interests include realization and robust control of distributed parameter systems learning control sampled-data systems and digital signal processing. Dr. Yamamoto is a receipient of the Sawaragi memorial paper award (1985) the Outstanding Paper Award of SICE (1987) Best Author Award of SICE (1990) the George Axelby Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE CSS in 1996 Takeda Paper Prize of SICE in 1997. He is a Fellow of IEEE. He was an associate editor of Automatica. He has completed graduate work in Chemistry at the University of Maryland and Temple University and in Technology and Management at American University. He has been with the Navy Department Washington since 1949 and is currently Head of the Coatings and Chemistry Branch of the Materials Development and Application Office of the Naval Ship Engineering Center. Responsibilities of this Branch include such items as coatings corrosion control techniques insulation chemical cleaning water treatment toxicology and detection and decontamination of biological and chemical warfare agents. Prior to this Mr. Birnbaum was employed in the Industrial Test Laboratory Philadelphia Naval Shipyard from 1938 to 1949. Work during this period included supervision of a section which inspected paints and allied materials and petroleum products to determine their suitability for Naval use and direction of research in fire retardant treatments. He is a member of the American Chemical Society Washington Paint Technical Group. National Association of Corrosion Engineers and the American Society of Naval Engineers. Mr. Bukzin is a research and development program manager in the Naval Ship Systems Command of the Department of the Navy in the fields of non-metallic materials fuels lubricants cold weather operations and several other areas. He is a graduate chemical engineer from New York University with additional training in naval architecture and management which culminated in his participation in the Senior Development Program at Cornell University during the summer of 1960. He has been employed by the Command and its predecessor for the past 2b years and has been in his present position of R&D planning and programming for the past six years.
