Abstract This paper formulates the notions of pivotal switching sequence and pivotal switched system as well as quasi-invariance to investigate ultimate motion of switched autonomous systems. The family of switching sequences that eventually drive the system motion is captured by pivotal switching sequences and the system ultimate motion is captured by pivotal switched systems through the quasi-invariance property of limit set. An invariance principle combining quasi-invariance property and Lyapunov functions for better estimate of resting region of system trajectories is introduced. An example of verifying the existence of limit cycle of a switched system using proposed invariance principle is provided.

This paper designs a Neighborhood Security system based on the ZigBee technology. Composed of user nodes, routers and central nodes, the entire system constitutes a wireless network with safe reliability and stable performance. The user node is primarily made up of the JN5139 module, together with various circuits like infrared detection, gas leakage alarm, emergency button and sound-light alarm. The management center of the residential neighborhood has real -time acess to the detection of the operating status and relevant alarm information of the household security system. The system features simple circuit design, reliable operation and better cost-efficiency, promising a wide application in the construction of neighborhood security systems. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper introduces a Lyapunov-based control design for circular flocking with collision avoidance of underactuated hovercrafts. The desired flocking is achieved by means of consensus on a coordinate-dependent transformation of vehicle linear velocity in surge and finiteness of a coordination function. The design makes use of linear velocity in surge and angular velocity in yaw as virtual controls in a backstepping scheme so that the desired flocking algorithm is obtained in a systematic way, and both convergence and collision avoidance are proved with mathematical rigor.

MapReduce provided a novel computing model for complex job decomposition and sub-tasks management to support cloud computing with large distributed data sets. However, its performance is significantly influenced by the working data distributions over those data sets. In this paper, we put forward a novel model to balance data distribution to improve cloud computing performance in data-intensive applications, such as distributed data mining. By extending the classic MapReduce model with an agent-aid layer and abstracting working load requests for data blocks as tokens, the agents can reason from previously received tokens about where to send other tokens in order to balance the working tasks and improve system performance. Our key contribution lies in building an efficient token routing algorithm in spite of agents' unknowing to the global state of data distribution in cloud. We also built a prototype of our system, and the experimental results show that our approach can significantly improve the efficiency of cloud computing. This paper presents a novel localization framework for multiple AVs based on sensor fusion of global positioning system (GPS) and the identification friend-or-foe (IFF) Radar system. The IFF-Radar play two roles: firstly, it detects the angle and the range between two AVs, and thus the path between the two vehicles can be modeled as a curve. Secondly, it detects which AV helps form the above curve, and receives the corresponding GPS information from the friend vehicle. Through the cooperation of the multiple AVs, GPS can work well with fewer satellites due to the block of canyon environments. Analysis shows that two GPS satellites are sufficient to obtain the location information with the help of two or more friend vehicles. Simulations show that the proposed approach can achieve better localization by the cooperation among multiple aerial vehicles than single aerial vehicle.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE. © 2011 Asian Control Association.

In this paper, we propose a method that could solve the problem of estimating the minimum number of robots to finish the given multi-objects task. The criterion of estimating the robots includes the time consumption of motion on the trajectory and the work on the multi-objects. Our proposed method builds the roadmap to compute the cost of motion between objects and then builds the network with the motion and work cost. To satisfy the specified efficiency, the optimization algorithm of network is used to compute the minimum number of robots which can finish the task. An implementation example is presented and possible further research directions are presented as well.

The experiment was conducted to determine the Hue optical properties of the three categories of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) namely unripe, underripe and ripe. The Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital camera with tele-converter zooming and the Keyence machine vision were used to capture the FFB images with two different settings of natural environment and direct sunlight. The species of oil palm tree used for the experiments were Elaeis Oleifera and Elaeis Guineensis Jacq. The images from the Nikon digital camera were analysed for optical properties of Red, Green, Blue (RGB) and then convert to Hue value using developed graphical user interface (GUI). The Hue values will then be compared to the value obtained from Keyence machine vision. The images of oil palm FFB in plantation were captured with setting cameras parameter namely shutterspeed which set to 0.125 seconds, image sensor's sensitivity (ISO) was set to Normal and white balance were calibrated using the standard white calibration CR-A74. The lighting intensity under oil palm canopy was simultaneously recorded and monitored using Extech Light Meter Datalogger. Using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), the ratio of test statistic of F with F critical for experiments under natural environment of oil palm plantation indicated the best differences of the hue optical properties among different maturity level of unripe, ripe and overripe FFB. Using the SAS programming for statistical analysis, the Hue and Red color values were found had significant effect to distinguish the maturity level (fm) of FFB with Pr > F are showed less than 0.01. The Green and Blue color values were not significant effect to differentiate the FFB maturity level which indicated the value of Pr > F showed 0.0243 and 0.9938 respectively. The Hue and Blue color values were not interaction with different lighting condition and the maturity level which indicated Pr > F for ml*fm showed 0.0668 and 0.1667 respectively. Brain-Computer Interface Design Using Signal Powers Extracted During Motor Imagery Tasks

Accurate classification of EEG left and right hand motor imagery is an important issue in brain-computer interface. Firstly, discrete wavelet transform method was used to decompose the average power of C3 electrode and C4 electrode in left-right hands imagery movement during some periods of time. The reconstructed signal of approximation coefficient A6 on the 6al level was selected to build up a feature signal. Secondly, the performances by Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis with two different threshold calculation ways and Support Vector Machine methods were compared. The final classification results showed that false classification rate by Support Vector Machine was lower and gained an ideal classification results.
