Repetitive, or multipass, processes are a class of 2D systems of both practical and algorithmic/theoretical interest whose dynamics cannot be analysed or controlled using standard (1D) systems theory. Recently it has been shown that the modelling of the boundary conditions, also known as the process initial conditions, is a crucial feature in the analysis and control of these processes. This paper presents some further results on the effects of so-called 'dynamic' process initial conditions on the controllability and stability properties of discrete linear repetitive processes. Previous work has shown that these dynamic process initial conditions alone can destroy the stability properties of these processes. Hence their effects must be 'adequately' accounted for the process modelling stage in order to ensure that subsequent analysis does not lead to incorrect results/conclusions. The main results developed in this paper can be summarised as follows. (i) Computationally efficient stability tests which can, in effect, be applied using standard, or 1D, linear systems tests. (ii) Characterisation of so-called pass controllability in the form of matrix rank based conditions. (iii) Conditions under which the dynamic process initial conditions can be selected to ensure stability and pass controllability.

An integrated modelling approach that considers the overall production schedule is needed in order to effectively manage different material flows in a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS), where large amounts of data intervene in the dynamic control and decision-making process. This paper focuses on the development of an integrated FMS control model that includes such essential features as routing of simultaneously processed work orders and batch dispatching, as well as dynamic vehicle path determination and conflict-free routing. A logistics-oriented modelling methodology for FMS distributed control design is proposed that provides the capability for rapid . development and evaluation of the control policy

A bottleneck control problem for general periodic job shops with blocking where each machine has an input buffer of finite capacity is investigated. The job shop considered consists of a set of workflows competing with each other for access to common machines. A distributed buffer control policy that restricts a job entering an input buffer of a local machine in a specific sequence is proposed. The conditions sufficient for design and allocation of dispatching rules are presented. The system time and the rate of machine utilization are considered as the evaluation criteria. Finally, the procedure aimed at scheduling periodic job shops is provided.

Elementary operations are an alternative to the polynomial system matrix for studying basic system theoretic properties of standard (ID) linear systems, such as state-space realizations. In the general area of no systems, there is a basic need to analyse both rational and polynomial matrices in n indeterminates. This paper develops key results through using elementary operations to analyse jointly such matrices.
In this paper so-called multitime scale systems are described in terms of discrete repetitive processes which belong to the wide family of so-called 2D systems.

th This volume is an edition of the papers selected from the 12 FIRA RoboWorld C- gress, held in Incheon, Korea, August 16–18, 2009. The Federation of International Robosoccer Association (FIRA – www. fira. net) is a non-profit organization, which organizes robotic competitions and meetings around the globe annually. The RoboSoccer competitions started in 1996 and FIRA was - tablished on June 5, 1997. The Robot Soccer competitions are aimed at promoting the spirit of science and technology to the younger generation. The congress is a forum in which to share ideas and future directions of technologies, and to enlarge the human networks in robotics area. The objectives of the FIRA Cup and Congress are to explore the technical dev- opment and achievement in the field of robotics, and provide participants with a robot festival including technical presentations, robot soccer competitions and exhibits - der the theme “Where Theory and Practice Meet. ” th Under the umbrella of the 12 FIRA RoboWorld Congress Incheon 2009, six int- national conferences were held for greater impact and scientific exchange: th • 6 International Conference on Computational Intelligence, robotics and Autonomous Systems (CIRAS) th • 5 International Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE) • International Conference on Social robotics (ICSR) • International Conference on Advanced Humanoid robotics Research (ICAHRR) • International Conference on Entertainment robotics (ICER) • International robotics Education Forum (IREF) This volume consists of selected quality papers from the six conferences.

As intelligent autonomous agents and multiagent system applications become more pervasive, it becomes increasingly important to understand the risks associated with using these systems. Incorrect or inappropriate agent behavior can have harmful - fects, including financial cost, loss of data, and injury to humans or systems. For - ample, NASA has proposed missions where multiagent systems, working in space or on other planets, will need to do their own reasoning about safety issues that concern not only themselves but also that of their mission. Likewise, industry is interested in agent systems that can search for new supply opportunities and engage in (semi-) automated negotiations over new supply contracts. These systems should be able to securely negotiate such arrangements and decide which credentials can be requested and which credentials may be disclosed. Such systems may encounter environments that are only partially understood and where they must learn for themselves which aspects of their environment are safe and which are dangerous. Thus, security and safety are two central issues when developing and deploying such systems. We refer to a multiagent system’s security as the ability of the system to deal with threats that are intentionally caused by other intelligent agents and/or s- tems, and the system’s safety as its ability to deal with any other threats to its goals.
