This paper presents a novel memoryless Viterbi decoder (VD) with a 4-level soft decision for long term evolution (LTE) systems. Based on the proposed architecture, the survivor memory can be eliminated totally, which will significantly reduce 50% of the total power dissipation. Finally, the proposed design consumes approximately 23.4K gates using 0.18 μm CMOS technology, and its power consumption is approximately 7.5 mW at 80 MHz.

Collaborative Filtering is one of the most important techniques in recommender systems. Current researches on Collaborative Filtering focus on how to improve the accuracy. However, it is of the same importance to recommend more potential interests to users because many of them have more expectations for recommendation list besides the accuracy. Current recommender systems did not address this problem. This paper focuses on how to help users find more interests in the recommendation list. We propose an sampling-based algorithm Probabilistic Top-N Selection to recommend potential interests for users, and propose two metrics, average predicted rating and category coverage, to assess the quality of the recommendation list. Then we conduct a series of experiments on Movie Lens dataset, experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can significantly improve user experience through providing them with more potential interests.

The dynamics of multi-agent in nature have been largely studied for a long time to investigate how the aggregation of agents can move smoothly in complex environments without collision. The main insights can be summarized such that the aggregated dynamics of animals and particles can be explained by an individual's simple rules. In a similar vein, we conjecture that such simple rules for vehicle maneuvering can accommodate the fluid flow of traffic and reduce car accidents in highway and urban areas. In this paper, we first show the Reynolds' three rules are applicable to autonomous driving on a single lane. Moreover, we provide additional requirements and algorithms for multiple lanes. Based on these results, we show that the proposed nature-inspired driving maneuver can increase traffic flow by 1) mitigating shockwave at bottlenecks and 2) extending the perception range for better path planning, which requires the support of the vehicle autonomy and wireless communication, respectively. Finally, we prove the feasibility of our work with experiments using multiple UAVs.

In wireless mesh networks (WMN), most routing algorithms apply broadcasting at some stage of the path discovery process. They thereby consume large chunks of the network throughput. Intelligent rebroadcast algorithms aim to reduce this overhead by calculating the usefulness of a rebroadcast and the likelihood of collisions. Unfortunately, this introduces latency and breaks the rebroadcast chain, resulting in reduced reachability. In this paper we present our Social-aware Routing Protocol with Parallel Collision Guidance Broadcasting for WMN (SCG). It reduces rebroadcasting without a loss in reachability and without a significant increase in latency. Our claims are validated through simulations comparing our algorithm with existing protocols.

The importance of video surveillance applications has been increasing with the increase of crime and terrorism. In addition to traditional video cameras, the use of acoustic sensors in surveillance and monitoring applications is also becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we apply High-Order Local Auto-Correlation (HLAC), which has succeeded in video surveillance applications, to extract features from acoustic signals in order to construct an acoustic surveillance system based on a novelty detection approach. We also apply Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to this problem. Experiment results confirmed that the AHLAC-based method outperforms the NMF-based and the cepstrum-based methods under all SNR conditions. The combined NMF-AHLAC method was able to improve the Equal Error Rate (EER) at lower SNRs, although the EERs at higher SNRs tend to degrade.

In this study, a system of discrete optical pulse generation via a series of microring resonator (MRR) is presented. Chaotic signals can be generated by an optical soliton or a Gaussian pulse within a MRR system. Large bandwidth signals of optical soliton are generated by input pulse propagating within the MRRs, which can be used to form continuous wavelength or frequency with large tunable channel capacity. Therefore, distinguished discrete wavelength or frequency pulses can be generated by using localized spatial pulses via a networks communication system. Selected discrete pulses are more suitable to generate high-secured quantum codes because of the large free spectral range (FSR). Quantum codes can be generated by using a polarization control unit and a beam splitter, incorporating to the MRRs. In this work, frequency band of 10.7 MHz and 16 MHz and wavelengths of 206.9 nm, 1448 nm, 2169 nm and 2489 nm are localized and obtained which can be used for quantum codes generation applicable for secured networks communication.
