This research investigates the complex relationships between social media, body image, and bullying among adolescent boarding school students, with an emphasis on the Malaysian context. Utilizing science fiction as a conceptual lens, the study presents hypothetical future scenarios to investigate how technological advancements could impact these interconnected issues. The paper seeks to provide nuanced insights into the ethical and policy implications of social media use in boarding schools by drawing on key theories such as Social Comparison Theory, Social-Ecological Model and Uses and Gratifications Theory. Through comparative analysis of hypothetical scenarios, this study aims to provide educators, policymakers, and technologists with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities at this intersection. The ultimate objective is to contribute to the ongoing discourse concerning adolescent mental health and to propose actionable strategies for mitigating negative outcomes in the unique context of Malaysian boarding schools. © 2024 IEEE.

Traditional data monetization approaches face challenges related to data protection and logistics. In response, digital data marketplaces have emerged as intermediaries simplifying data transactions. Despite the growing establishment and acceptance of digital data marketplaces, significant challenges hinder efficient data trading. As a result, few companies can derive tangible value from their data, leading to missed opportunities in understanding customers, pricing decisions, and fraud prevention. In this paper, we explore both technical and organizational challenges affecting data monetization. Moreover, we identify areas in need of further research, aiming to expand the boundaries of current knowledge by emphasizing where research is currently limited or lacking.

Parking space is usually very limited in major cities,especially Cairo,leading to traffic congestion,air pollution,and driver *** car parking systems tend to tackle parking issues in a non-digitized *** systems require the drivers to search for an empty parking space with no guaran-tee of finding any wasting time,resources,and causing unnecessary *** address these issues,this paper proposes a digitized parking system with a proof-of-concept implementation that combines multiple technological concepts into one solution with the advantages of using IoT for real-time tracking of park-ing *** authentication and automated payments are handled using a quick response(QR)code on entry and *** experiments were done on real data collected for six different locations in Cairo via a live popular times *** machine learning models were investigated in order to estimate the occu-pancy rate of certain ***,a clear analysis of the differences in per-formance is illustrated with the final model deployed being *** has achieved the most efficient results with a R^(2) score of 85.7%.

Investigating Efficacy of Perplexity in Detecting LLM-Generated Code

Large language model-generated code (LLMgCode) has become increasingly prevalent in software development. Many studies report that LLMgCode has more quality and security issues than human-authored code (HaCode). It is common for LLMgCode to mix with HaCode in a code change, while the change is signed by only human developers, without being carefully checked. Many automated methods have been proposed to detect LLMgCode from HaCode, in which the perplexity-based method (PERPLEXITY for short) is the state-of-the-art method. However, the efficacy evaluation of PERPLEXITY has focused on the detection accuracy. In this article, we are interested in whether PERPLEXITY is good enough in a wider range of realistic evaluation settings. To this end, we devise a large-scale dataset that includes 11,664 HaCode snippets and 13,164 LLMgCode snippets, and based on that, we carry out a family of experiments to compare PERPLEXITY against feature-based and pre-training-based methods from three perspectives: (1) detection accuracy in terms of programming language, degree of difficulty, and scale of solution, (2) generalization capability, and (3) inference efficiency. The experimental results show that PERPLEXITY has the best generalization capability while it has low accuracy and efficiency in most cases. Based on the experimental results and detection mechanism of PERPLEXITY, we discuss implications into both the strengths and limitations of PERPLEXITY, e.g., PERPLEXITY is unsuitable for high-level programming languages while it has good interpretability. As the first large-scale investigation on detecting LLMgCode from HaCode, this article provides a wide range of evidence for future improvement. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

People are more and more in a position to work remotely. They face the same problems of establishing and running remote work environments over and over again. In order to help them a bit, six organizational patterns of remote work environments are presented in this paper: Unofficial Meetings, Remote Mentor, Unified Communication Channels, Standard Operating Procedures, Information Hub, and Cut Meetings. The patterns come from a firsthand remote work experience obtained in a company focusing on quality assurance through a crowd testing methodology where software companies get real users to test their newest products.

Accelerating regional economic growth is needed to be able to catch up with a region, especially if the region has economic potential, especially in terms of natural capital, such as a beautiful environment. However, in practice, a development process will experience obstacles as an inseparable part. This condition certainly requires appropriate treatment efforts based on empirical evidence data. This also happened to West Lombok. Where in fact the regions that get the opportunity to become Smart City pilots certainly have a positive impact, but the challenges that must be carried out also go hand in hand with the process of implementing these efforts. Referring to this background, the purpose of this research is to be able to explore and analyze the challenges experienced by West Lombok in implementing the Smart City program in its region. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of documentation studies, observations, interviews, and focus group discussions. This study involved 50 informants with various backgrounds but still in accordance with the characteristics of the informants determined by the researcher through the use of purposive sampling technique. The results of this study are that there are four challenges that need to get more attention from the local government of West Lombok and its stakeholders as an effort to realize West Lombok as a smart city. The four challenges include policy, infrastructure, human capital, and environment. The need for strategic efforts carried out by West Lombok to be able to encourage the achievement of the target of becoming a smart city in Indonesia, especially in West Nusa Tenggara Province.

The recent decade saw enormous advances of the capabilities of speech synthesis and speech recognition. While specific benefits depend on the individual applications, speech interfaces typically increase accessibility, enable “hands-free” and “no-screen” interaction, and often increase interaction speed and allow for more flexible usage patterns and increased multitasking, leading to higher user satisfaction. This paper presents a method to transfer these powerful benefits to the digital twin (DT) domain by automatically generating speech interfaces for DT applications. Our approach is based on Model Driven engineering principles, where we automatically deduce command patterns from structural model information as used in, e.g., DT platform specifications. The speech interface generation is highly configurable and extendable, thus it can be applied to different DT models. The concepts behind the generator are generic as well, thus they can be ported to other applications and platforms. We validate our approach by applying it to two DT demonstration cases and provide a detailed description of the sketch interface configuration workflow.

With the combination of software and physical devices into so-called cyber-physical systems (CPSs), Digital Twins (DTs) have emerged to handle the resulting complexity and efficiently connect software to physical devices, the so-called physical twins (PTs). While DTs have gained more and more interest in both industry and academia in recent years, several vendors started to provide so-called DT platforms that offer software tools that promise to make it easier to develop and maintain DTs. When investigating these platforms in more detail, we found that they require the redundant specification of information that is usually already defined in engineering models describing the underlying PT. Additionally, they focus on connecting services to the running PT. Most DT applications however also need a connection to a simulation of the PT, which is currently not supported by the examined DT platforms. As different DT platforms usually each use their own proprietary language and software tooling, it is also currently time-demanding to integrate them with the software services that realize functionality based on these platforms. In the described thesis project, we propose an extended DT platform that solves the mentioned problems by leveraging Model-driven engineering (MDE) techniques. More precisely, we (i) develop model transformations from existing engineering models to the proprietary DT models used by current DT platforms, (ii) create a DT megamodel that integrates DT models of existing platforms with models representing different endpoints such as PTs or simulations, and generic service descriptions, and (iii) propose a workflow model to define the interactions between different services and DTs, and a method that automates the integration of services and DTs into DT architectures based on this workflow model and the DT megamodel. In the realm of classical software engineering, model-driven optimization has been widely used for different problems such as (re)modularization of software systems. In this paper, we investigate how techniques from model-driven optimization can be applied in the context of quantum software engineering. In quantum computing, creating executable quantum programs is a highly non-trivial task which requires significant expert knowledge in quantum information theory and linear algebra. Although different approaches for automated quantum program synthesis exist—e.g., based on reinforcement learning and genetic programming—these approaches represent tailor-made solutions requiring dedicated encodings for quantum programs. This paper applies the existing model-driven optimization approach MOMoT to the problem of quantum program synthesis. We present the resulting platform for experimenting with quantum program synthesis and present a concrete demonstration for a well-known Quantum algorithm.

Contributing Dimension Structure of Deep Feature for Coreset Selection

Coreset selection seeks to choose a subset of crucial training samples for efficient learning. It has gained traction in deep learning, particularly with the surge in training dataset sizes. Sample selection hinges on two main aspects: a sample's representation in enhancing performance and the role of sample diversity in averting overfitting. Existing methods typically measure both the representation and diversity of data based on similarity metrics, such as L2-norm. They have capably tackled representation via distribution matching guided by the similarities of features, gradients, or other information between data. However, the results of effectively diverse sample selection are mired in sub-optimality. This is because the similarity metrics usually simply aggregate dimension similarities without acknowledging disparities among the dimensions that significantly contribute to the final similarity. As a result, they fall short of adequately capturing diversity. To address this, we propose a feature-based diversity constraint, compelling the chosen subset to exhibit maximum diversity. Our key lies in the introduction of a novel Contributing Dimension Structure (CDS) metric. Different from similarity metrics that measure the overall similarity of high-dimensional features, our CDS metric considers not only the reduction of redundancy in feature dimensions, but also the difference between dimensions that contribute significantly to the final similarity. We reveal that existing methods tend to favor samples with similar CDS, leading to a reduced variety of CDS types within the coreset and subsequently hindering model performance. In response, we enhance the performance of five classical selection methods by integrating the CDS constraint. Our experiments on three datasets demonstrate the general effectiveness of the proposed method in boosting existing methods. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
