In continual learning, the learner learns multiple tasks in sequence, with data being acquired only once for each task. Catastrophic forgetting is a major challenge to continual learning. To reduce forgetting, some existing rehearsal-based methods use episodic memory to replay samples of previous tasks. However, in the process of knowledge integration when learning a new task, this strategy also suffers from catastrophic forgetting due to an imbalance between old and new knowledge. To address this problem, we propose a novel replay strategy called Manifold Expansion Replay (MaER). We argue that expanding the implicit manifold of the knowledge representation in the episodic memory helps to improve the robustness and expressiveness of the model. To this end, we propose a greedy strategy to keep increasing the diameter of the implicit manifold represented by the knowledge in the buffer during memory management. In addition, we introduce Wasserstein distance instead of cross entropy as distillation loss to preserve previous knowledge. With extensive experimental validation on MNIST, CIFAR10, CIFAR100, and TinyImageNet, we show that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy in continual learning setup, outperforming the state of the arts. Nowadays, manual and automated tests, among other things, are used to achieve the best quality of a software product. There are several types of automated tests that try to meet the needs of today’s technology, but in addition to the advantages of these techniques, there are also disadvantages that are analysed in detail in this article. The aim of this article is to develop and present the possibilities of exploiting the potential of protocol orientation in a less common programming paradigm in user interface tests that do not suffer from the previously mentioned disadvantages. The manuscript meets the theory of user interface testing with protocol orientation, creating a test project that takes advantage of Swift’s unique language capabilities by transferring best practices from traditional testing procedures, resulting in easy-to-read, easy-tomaintain test codes.

Business Process Model for Interoperability Improvement in the Agricultural Domain Using Digital Twins

A farm generates a lot of data from various systems, which is then stored in a distributed manner, usually in non-standardized formats, which bears the risk of data inconsistencies. This work addresses this issue by using business process management (BPM) to demonstrate that the use of digital twins (DTs) can improve interoperability between services in the agriculture domain. Steps from the BPM lifecycle were applied to a farming use case in Germany. First, the as-is business process model was discovered and modeled without DTs, analyzed and then redesigned into the to-be model according to the DT integration. The to-be model showed a reduction in the number of tasks needed to be performed by the farmer as well as an improvement of process data quality, interoperability, and efficiency. Finally, a comparison of the' average processing times of both models with the help of process simulation revealed improvements in the to-be process. © 2022, CC BY.

The computation of short paths in graphs with arc lengths is a pillar of graph algorithmics and network science. In a more diverse world, however, not every short path is equally valuable. For the setting where each vertex is assigned to a group (color), we provide a framework to model multiple natural fairness aspects. We seek to find short paths in which the number of occurrences of each color is within some given lower and upper bounds. Among other results, we prove the introduced problems to be computationally intractable (NP-hard and parameterized hard with respect to the number of colors) even in very restricted settings (such as each color should appear with exactly the same frequency), while also presenting an encouraging algorithmic result ("fixed-parameter tractability") related to the length of the sought solution path for the general problem. Data aggregation is an important approach in IoT sensor networks since it reduces data transfer while also preserving energy and bandwidth. This research investigates the challenge of time-efficient data aggregation in wireless sensor networks, which is critical in military, civilian, and industrial applications. Effective data aggregation algorithm design and optimization are required for quick and interference-free data collection. Machine learning has received attention for outperforming classical heuristic techniques. The research presents the first Graph Neural Network (GNN) model for data aggregation in IoT sensor networks, which incorporates Graph Attention Networks (GATs) and fully connected layers. The GNN-based model learns network topology and node attributes, creating node embeddings and correcting sensor node transmitting time slots. With a centralized training procedure and adapted execution for network size change, the proposed approach achieves satisfactory performance compared to the heuristic algorithm.

The proposed platform seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technologies including advanced data collection, state estimation algorithms, AI-driven decision-making processes, and grid control functionalities. Its primary objective is to facilitate proactive measures aimed at enhancing energy distribution efficiency and effectively managing consumption devices while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as §14a of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) in Germany.

A demonstration of the application of dynamically generated workflows to the management of a network environment is presented. A proposed workflow management framework (WMF) uses dynamically generated workflows to control the managed environment. Exception detection and handling in the workflow generation produce recommendations for mitigating incidents that might occur. The key features of the proposed WMF are its ease of implementation, flexibility and scalability. These features facilitate a quick response by the definition of new recommendations in the form of a workflow that can be executed in a controlled environment. The effectiveness of these recommendations can be assessed through feedback from the managed environment.

Affine correspondences have traditionally been used to improve feature matching over wide baselines. While recent work has successfully used affine correspondences to solve various relative camera pose estimation problems, less attention has been given to their use in absolute pose estimation. We introduce the first general solution to the problem of estimating the pose of a calibrated camera given a single observation of an oriented point and an affine correspondence. The advantage of our approach (P1AC) is that it requires only a single correspondence, in comparison to the traditional point-based approach (P3P), significantly reducing the combinatorics in robust estimation. P1AC provides a general solution that removes restrictive assumptions made in prior work and is applicable to large-scale image-based localization. We propose a minimal solution to the P1AC problem and evaluate our novel solver on synthetic data, showing its numerical stability and performance under various types of noise. On standard image-based localization benchmarks we show that P1AC achieves more accurate results than the widely used P3P algorithm. In this article, the modeling and analysis of the kinetics of the pyrolysis process is carried out, which allows us to determine the rate of chemical reactions occurring during the decomposition of the material, as well as to identify key factors affecting the speed and efficiency of pyrolysis. The simulation was performed using Comsol Multiphysics software based on the kinetic mechanisms of the reaction of biomass of corn cob particles at a temperature of $500^{\mathrm{o}}\mathrm{C}$ . The pyrolysis process of plant biomass was analyzed at a residence time of 0 to 10 minutes. The resulting models describe temperature changes well, especially in the center of the biomass. It was found that pyrolysis of corncob biomass occurred in the temperature range from 190 to $43 2^{0}\mathrm{C}$ , at $19 0^{0}\mathrm{C}$ mass loss began, which ended at 432 $\circ \mathrm{c}$ . The kinetic parameters were calculated using the Kissinger method, and the least squares method and correlation analysis were used to calculate the kinetic constants. The study results will be useful for optimizing the conditions of the biomass pyrolysis process in the future.

Patterns are powerful when used in combinations. Identifying relationships between patterns is challenging. The existing approaches and pattern formats reflect the relationships with other patterns in a very informal and traditional way. We are proposing an automatic approach which discover such relationships from the patterns descriptive text using text mining and natural language processing techniques.
