The significance of employment in a setup of society is quite evident. Publishing jobs online opened the research opportunities to study different methods for the automation of job offers retrieval - from the internet. We need a classification mechanism, from machine learning or some other discipline, to automate job offers retrieval. In this paper, we devised an ontology-based classifier for job offers classification. More than 5000 job offers were collected from different job offers websites. The ontology-based classification works in three stages, concepts are extracted from job offers text description as feature vectors, the minimum threshold for the classification is calculated, and a classification model is developed. Rather using machine learning algorithms, we used an ontology for classification. We evaluated this classifier according to machine learning evaluation model, training, and test dataset. Our classifier showed more than 0.9 accuracy, precision, and recall for both training and test dataset. Our finding paves the way to automate the job offers classification and retrieval. © 2018 IEEE.

To automate the retrieval of online job opportunities of a specific domain, text classification is an only viable method. In this paper, we investigated eight classifiers and defined a new preprocessing method for job offers classification, and study their accuracies and generalization behaviors. Different job offers websites are used to collect data. We organized data into six different dataset groups, by applying different existing and a new preprocessing method. Classifiers are regularized to avoid high variance, and their accuracies and generalization errors are evaluated. All the classifiers showed more than 0.9 accuracy, but their generalization errors varied. Ridge Regression and Stochastic Gradient Decent generalized well on new data - for all the dataset groups. On the contrary Random Forest and Perceptron tenacious toward high variance. Remaining classifiers exhibited both behaviors for different dataset groups. We found two classifiers that generalized well to new data. Our finding highlight the potential use of classifiers to automate the job offers retrieval from the World Wide Web. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach for the domain of makeup-robust face recognition. Most face recognition schemes usually fail to generalize well on these data where there is a large difference between the training and testing sets, e.g., makeup changes. Our method focuses on the problem of determining whether face images before and after makeup refer to the same identity. The work on this fundamental research topic benefits various real-world applications, for example automated passport control, security in general, and surveillance. Experiments show that our method is highly effective in comparison to state-of-the-art methods.

One major element in Concurrent Design is the central data model. It allows the various disciplines to share the latest information and to make immediate use of them within their domain specific tools and models. As a successor of the Integrated Design Model, in 2014 the European Space Agency (ESA) released the Open Concurrent Design Tool (OCDT), which aims to be the reference and standard model for European entities performing space system studies during early as well as later phases. This tool, including its web-based server and user interface supporting elements (such as MS Excel Add-ins), is developed in a way that it is not only limited to space system and mission design, but can be used also in other fields such as system-of-systems (SoS) architecture definition and evaluation, which is becoming an emerging topic for European and international collaborations. Instead of just looking at the technical aspects of a system, SoS-studies provide an opportunity to analyze how to share resources and assets amongst institutions, organizations or nations more efficiently and how to provide integrated and more advanced services. However, due to the different nature and rules of SoS, the OCDT requires certain adaptations regarding domain specific tool interfaces, dedicated data libraries, as well as a SoS-specific data flow and representations to the users. Several studies were performed on ESA’s side in advance, to prepare an initial set of requirements for such an evolution of the tools and processes which eventually led to a project called "Development and Validation of a Generic systems‐of‐systems Concurrent Engineering Model (CESoS)". It has been established by ESA and awarded to a consortium which has experience in Concurrent Design, software development and system architecture definitions. © 2015, American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Increased data volumes and accelerating update speeds are fundamentally changing the role of the data warehouse in modern businesses. More data, coming in faster, and requiring immediate conversion into decisions means that organizations are confronting the need for a Zero-Latency Data Warehousing. The Zero-Latency Data Warehouse (ZLDWH) is an extended stage in the data warehouse development, which will enable a complete business intelligence process to observe, understand, predict, react to, reorganize, monitor, automate and control feedback loops in the minimal latency. This paper reviews the start-of-the-art of the Zero-Latency Data Warehouse and investigates two experimental approaches towards its implementations. (1) The Grid-based Zero-Latency Data Stream. Warehouse (GZLDSWH) with the aim to tackle the resource limitation issues in data stream processing without using approximation approaches. (2) Sense & Response Service Architecture (SARESA) towards a complete Business Intelligence process to sense, interpret, predict, automate and respond to business processes. © 2006 IEEE.

Our work introduces immersive collaborative learning to geometry education. More specifically, we present a system that uses collaborative augmented reality as a medium for teaching, and uses 3D dynamic geometry to facilitate mathematics and geometry education. Both these aspects are novel to geometry education. We describe improvements in the user interface and visual design of such an application. We also report on practical experiences with using our system for actual teaching of high school students, and present initial quantitative data on the educational value of such an approach.

The dynamic business environment of many organizations require massive monitoring of their processes in real-time in order to proactively respond to exceptional situations and to take advantage of time-sensitive business opportunities. The ability to sense and interpret events about a changing business environment requires an event-driven IT infrastructure for pwerforming fast and well-informed decisions and putting them into action. However, traditional Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehousing technologies do not directly address time sensitive monitoring and analytical requirements. We introduce an enhanced BI architecture that covers the complete process to sense, interpret, predict, automate and respond to business environments and thereby aims to decrease the reaction time needed for business decisions. We propose an event-driven IT infrastructure to operate BI applications which enable real-time analytics across corporate business processes, notifies the business of actionable recommendations or automatically triggers business operations, and effectively closing the gap between Business Intelligence systems and business processes. A scenario from the area of mobile phone fraud detection was chosen for building a prototype that illustrates the proposed approach by using current available IT technologies. © 2005 ACM.

He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1983 and is presently pursuing a master's degree in engineering management at Old Dominion University. Mr. Luke is experienced as a test engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (1978–1989) and as a reliability/quality engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Detachment Norfolk (1989-Present). Currently he is the group leader of the RMA/QA group for the AN/SQQ-89(V) Antisubmarine Warfare System at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Detachment Norfolk. Mr. Luke is a member of ASNE IEEE (Reliability Society) and ASQC and is an ASQC certified quality engineer and reliability engineer. Derya Alasya Jacobs:is an assistant professor in the Engineering Management Department at Old Dominion University (ODU). She has a B.S. in computer science and an M.S. and Ph.D in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla. Prior to joining ODU Dr. Jacobs worked as a research engineer at the Center for Technology Transfer and Economic Development at the University of Missouri-Rolla. During the same period she served as a consultant in software development for Missouri Enterprise Rolla Missouri. Dr. Jacobs' research interests are in the areas of applied artificial intelligence decision support systems operations research and computer integrated manufacturing. Billie M. Reed:is an assistant professor in the Engineering Management Department at Old Dominion University. He received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in 1971. After completing undergraduate studies Dr. Reed was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy where he served in the nuclear submarine force until 1982. As technology advances and our dependency on software increases, the requirement to develop the correct means to improve quality in both the deveiopment phase and the maintenance phase of software life cycle support becomes increasingly significant. The focus of this paper is on the dilemma facing software engineering in maintaining quality within the constraints of the maintenance phase. The paper further proposes that the software maintenance process can also be analvzed and improved using statistical process control (SPC) techniques. The methods discussed in this paper have been proposed for use in the software Maintenance project at NUWC Detachment Norfolk. Upon successful testing at NUWC Detachment Norfolk, they will be forwarded to the AN/SQQ-89(V) (interagencv) software Quality Evaluation Committee for use by other agencies which are developing and maintaining AN/SQQ-89(V) software.
