Existing systems for automatic transcription of drum tracks from polyphonic music focus on detecting drum instrument onsets but lack consideration of additional meta information like bar boundaries, tempo, and meter. We address this limitation by proposing a system which has the capability to detect drum instrument onsets along with the corresponding beats and downbeats. In this design, the system has the means to utilize information on the rhythmical structure of a song which is closely related to the desired drum transcript. To this end, we introduce and compare different architectures for this task, i.e., recurrent, convolutional, and recurrent-convolutional neural networks. We evaluate our systems on two well-known data sets and an additional new data set containing both drum and beat annotations. We show that convolutional and recurrentconvolutional neural networks perform better than state-ofthe- art methods and that learning beats jointly with drums can be beneficial for the task of drum detection. © 2019 Richard Vogl, Matthias Dorfer, Gerhard Widmer, Peter Knees.

While modern parallel computing systems ofter high performance, utilizing these powerful computing resources to the highest possible extent demands advanced knowledge of various hardware architectures and parallel programming models, Furthermore, optimized software exe-cution on parallel computing systems demands consideration of many parameters at compile-time and run-time. I^termining the optimal set of parameters in a given execution context is a complex task, and therefore to addiess this issue researchers have proposed different approaches that use heuristic search or machine learning. In this paper, we undertake a systematic literature review to aggregate, analyze and classify the existing software optimization methods for parallel computing systems Me review approaches that use machine learning or meta-heuristics for software opti-mization at compile-time and run-time. Additionally, we discuss challenges and future research directions. The results of this study may help to better understand the state-of-the-art techniques that use machine learning and meta-heuristics to deal with the complexity of software optimiza-tion for parallel computing systems. People frequently use internet-based messaging systems to coordinate. In order to achieve that, it is sufficient for them to exchange natural language messages. The message history they generate can be seen as a shared database that can be tapped into by personal assistive systems;moreover, messaging is increasingly used for human-computer communication. However, if natural language understanding is required for such systems to function properly, the cost of developing them is high and only few market players will be able to compete. If, on the other hand, it is possible to mix machine-interpretable data with natural language conversations, assistive or conversational programs may be developed more easily. As a first important challenge, we tackle the problem of negotiating agreements and unambiguously represent what has been agreed upon in a machine-readable form. In this paper, we propose an extension of the Web of Needs, a decentralized, Linked Data based matching and messaging system, to allow conversation partners to produce a mutually agreed-upon RDF dataset.

The production of labor cost intense goods in industrial countries becomes increasingly unprofitable, unless add-on values can be delivered by supporting services. Research in Industrial Product Service systems (IPSS) – a marketable set of products and services - focuses on all aspects of IPSS and supports the conversion of industrial countries towards a service society. This fundamental change in paradigm sometimes described as the ‘servizitation of manufacturing’ could be seen as survival strategy against low labor costs within a global market. However, industrial procurement perceives IPSS as more difficult to assess than product offers. Buying departments are challenged to compare values of different IPSS on an international market. Information asymmetry between expert seller and consumer, hidden information or outcome uncertainties are some of the reasons, that buyers perceive risks at IPSS purchasing. The complexity of working systems that support nowadays purchasing environments increased. Until now, no standardized systems such as e-markets are suitable to support buyers to find and compare available IPSS. This paper describes design guidelines for a system that supports the search, discovery and comparison of IPSS.

Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.

Guided projections for analysing the structure of high-dimensional data

A powerful data transformation method named guided projections is proposed creating new possibilities to reveal the group structure of high-dimensional data in the presence of noise variables. Utilising projections onto a space spanned by a selection of a small number of observations allows measuring the similarity of other observations to the selection based on orthogonal and score distances. Observations are iteratively exchanged from the selection creating a non-random sequence of projections which we call guided projections. In contrast to conventional projection pursuit methods, which typically identify a low-dimensional projection revealing some interesting features contained in the data, guided projections generate a series of projections that serve as a basis not just for diagnostic plots but to directly investigate the group structure in data. Based on simulated data we identify the strengths and limitations of guided projections in comparison to commonly employed data transformation methods. We further show the relevance of the transformation by applying it to real-world data sets. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Recent advances in linked data generation through mapping such as RML (RDF mapping language) allows for providing large-scale RDF data in a more automatic way. However, considerable amount of data in open data portals remain inaccessible as linked data. This is due to the nature of data portals having large number of small-size dataset which makes writing mapping description becomes tedious and error-prone. Moreover, these data sources requires additional preprocessing before To solve this challenge, We introduce extensions to RML to support required tasks and developed RMLx, a visual web-interface to create RML mappings. Using this interface, the process of creating mapping description can become faster and less error-prone. Furthermore, the process of linked data generation can be wrapped as to enable integration with other data in a linked data exploration environment. We explore on four different use cases to identify the requirements followed by describing how these are solved. © 2017 IEEE.

We propose a semi-Automatic 2D-To-3D conversion algorithm that is embedded in an efficient optimization framework, i.e., cost volume filtering, which assigns pixels to depth values initialized by user-given scribbles. The proposed algorithm is capable of capturing depth changes of objects that move towards or farther away from the camera. We achieve this by determining a rough depth order between objects in each frame, according to the motion observed in the video, and incorporate this depth order into the depth interpolation process. In contrast to previous publications, our algorithm focuses on avoiding conflicts between the generated depth maps and monocular depth cues that are present in the video, i.e., motion-caused occlusions, and thus takes a step towards the generation of perceptually coherent depth maps. We demonstrate the capabilities of our proposed algorithm on synthetic and recorded video data and by comparison with depth ground truth. Experimental evaluations show that we obtain temporally and perceptually coherent 2D-To-3D conversions in which temporal and spatial edges coincide with edges in the corresponding input video. We achieve competitive 2D-To-3D conversion results. Our proposed depth interpolation can clearly improve the conversion results for videos that contain objects which exhibit motion in depth, compared to commonly performed naive depth interpolation techniques. © 2016 Society for Imaging Science and technology.

In an industrial production setting, operators, administrators, and managing staff usually receive messages (human or machine generated) in a shared electronic message pipeline. The larger the factory and/or the number of staff, the longer the message queue and communication drawbacks follow. This paper proposes a framework that ranks messages in a communication pipeline individually, for each user, based on contexts and user preferences. The method combines a flat set of rules and an optional learning mechanism that enables tuning these rules using reference data when available. Our method does not encounter the cold start problem, systems based on this framework provide acceptable rankings immediately, which is useful in cases where no ground truth is provided. The framework presented here ensures high scalability, new rules can be easily plugged into the system without affecting the general architecture, as well as high adaptability, where ranking parameters can be modified by administrators.

Automatic drum transcription methods aim at extracting a symbolic representation of notes played by a drum kit in audio recordings. For automatic music analysis, this task is of particular interest as such a transcript can be used to extract high level information about the piece, e.g., tempo, downbeat positions, meter, and genre cues. In this work, an approach to transcribe drums from polyphonic audio signals based on a recurrent neural network is presented. Deep learning techniques like dropout and data augmentation are applied to improve the generalization capabilities of the system. The method is evaluated using established reference datasets consisting of solo drum tracks as well as drums mixed with accompaniment. The results are compared to state-of-the-art approaches on the same datasets. The evaluation reveals that F-measure values higher than state of the art can be achieved using the proposed method.
