Safety and Optimality in Learning-Based Control At Low Computational Cost

Applying machine learning methods to physical systems that are supposed to act in the real world requires providing safety guarantees. However, methods that include such guarantees often come at a high computational cost, making them inapplicable to large datasets and embedded devices with low computational power. In this paper, we propose Colsafe, a computationally lightweight safe learning algorithm whose computational complexity grows sublinearly with the number of data points. We derive both safety and optimality guarantees and showcase the effectiveness of our algorithm on a seven-degrees-of-freedom robot arm. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The 'Internet of things' is the developing technology to transfer the world into smart innovation. 'IoT' security is the most problematic issue in recent applications due to its properties including 'centralized architecture', 'limited capacity devices', and 'ambiguity'. So, blockchain with 'IoT' applications provides secure data communication compared to traditional 'IoT' applications. Blockchain is a recent growing technology that has features including 'decentralized structure', 'transparency', 'immutable records', 'increased capacity', and 'quick backtracks'. The 'cryptography hash algorithm' is very important to provide secure data transmission. It converted the different size input to fixed-size unalterable output to enhance the security. But still, it needs efficient algorithm to secure data transmission with safeguard of private key. The objective of this paper is to propose a secure hash cryptography algorithm with double encryption (SHCA-DE) to protect the private key message. Then, this proposed algorithm has been analyzed with MD5, SHA-256, and SHA3-512. From this analysis, the SHA3-512 performs well with proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Evolutionary learning driven load forecasting and demand response management model for smart grid

The smart meter data generated from the customers’ usage help utility providers to manage and control the electricity distribution among the customers for reliable services in the smart grid. Smart meter data provide an opportunity for utility providers to address these challenges by implementing demand response management (DRM), which enables customers to reduce consumption and balance load across the grid. For the demand response management in the smart grid, a multi-objective problem (MOP) is formulated considering three objectives, i.e., power scarcity, wastage and load factor. These objectives are computed by the newly proposed load forecasting neural network that precisely predicts upcoming loads on the demand side. The weights of this neural network are optimized using a hybrid learning approach that integrates evolutionary algorithms with Adam optimization. Additionally, the Multi-Objective Programming problem is efficiently addressed through the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-III). Experimental results indicate that the proposed method surpasses state-of-the-art techniques in the terms of load forecasting. The proposed approach achieves a forecasting accuracy of up to 96.30% and a root mean squared error of 0.1367, based on the Open Energy Data Initiative (OEDI) dataset provided by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Rapid urbanization, population expansion, and escalating pollution levels have given rise to novel environmental concerns that demand the application of creative, analytical methodologies and diverse data sources. To ensure efficient urban ecological management, it is crucial to consider three levels of phenomena: the environmental system, the physical environment, and the regional surroundings. Utilizing remote sensing data is a viable avenue for enhancing the global environment due to its convenient accessibility and ability to measure crucial physical features regularly. The primary objective of this research study is to ascertain and evaluate suitable methods for analyzing satellite imagery in the healthcare context. The study’s aims encompass examining the diverse array of tools accessible in the market, scrutinizing the characteristics of each device, exploring research papers that have employed these tools, and classifying the tools into open-source and commercial classifications. The rapid growth of urban areas, population, and pollution presents a significant environmental challenge. Addressing these challenges requires innovative analytical approaches and data sources. This study focuses on the three-scale phenomena of the environmental system, physical environment, and regional surroundings, considering their implications on a global network scale. Remote sensing data, with its easy accessibility, offers new toolkits and methods to improve the global environment. It provides self-consistent measurements of vital physical attributes and surpasses traditional data sources regarding accuracy, efficiency, and coverage of larger geographical areas. This study aims to identify and analyze appropriate satellite image analysis tools for healthcare. The study objectives include studying available tools, analyzing their features, categorizing tools into open-source and commercial categories, and providing recommendations. This study emphasizes feature extraction and image enhancement parameters, which are crucial for image analysis. This paper presents a method for estimating normals of mirrors and transparent objects challenging for cameras to recognize. We propose spraying water vapor onto mirror or transparent surfaces to create a diffuse reflective surface. Using an ultrasonic humidifier on a robotic arm, we apply water vapor to the target object's surface, forming a cross-shaped misted area. This creates partially diffuse reflective surfaces, enabling the camera to detect the target object's surface. Adjusting the gripper-mounted camera viewpoint maximizes the extracted misted area's appearance in the image, allowing normal estimation of the target surface. Experiments show the method's effectiveness, with RMSEs of azimuth estimation for mirrors and transparent glass approximately 4.2° and 5.8°, respectively. Our robot experiments demonstrated that our robotic wiper can perform contact-force-regulated wiping motions to clean a transparent window, akin to human performance.

Secure Block Joint Source-Channel Coding with Sequential Encoding

We extend the results of Ghourchian et al. [1] to joint source-channel coding with eavesdropping. Our work characterizes the sequential encoding process using the cumulative rate distribution functions (CRDF) and includes a security constraint using the cumulative leakage distribution functions (CLF). The information leakage is defined based on the mutual information between the source and the output of the wiretap channel to the eavesdropper. We derive inner and outer bounds on the achievable CRDF for a given source and CLF, and show that the bounds are tight when the distribution achieving the capacity of the wiretap channel is the same as the one achieving the capacity of the channel. Satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks have become the hot topic these years, which have been regarded as the major part of the intelligence of things for future networks. During this work, we investigate the secrecy performance for rate-splitting multiple access-assisted satellite high aerial platform terrestrial integrated networks. Besides, imperfect hardware and channel estimation errors are considered in the secrecy networks. Moreover, to enhance the energy utilization efficiency, rate-splitting multiple access scheme is utilized into the considered network, which is prior to that of the non-orthogonal multiple access scheme. What's more, to enhance the satellite transmission, multiple high aerial platforms are used to forward the transmission along with multiple eavesdroppers. In addition, the direct transmission link is not considered in the secrecy networks due to the heavy fading and obstacles. Relied on the former considerations, the exact and asymptotic analysis for the secrecy performance is further obtained to confirm the rightness of the analysis. A Reliable Collision-free TDMA MAC for Sensor Networks

This paper proposes an energy-efficient and collision-free medium access control protocol named TDMA-S (Time division multiple access MAC protocol for Sensor networks). Nodes in TDMA-S schedule their transmissions based on neighborhood information to determine when they can transmit, listen or sleep. TDMA-S collects the neighborhood information using a distributed algorithm and avoids that two nodes within the interference range are assigned the same transmitting slot. The protocol is shown to be fair and reliable. Simulation results indicate that TDMA-S outperforms contention-based protocol (e.g., S-MAC) and schedule-based protocol (e.g., NAMA) in terms of delay and energy consumption.
