A six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with a new fractional-slot winding arrangement is proposed for the electric vehicle application. With a 105° electrical angle between the two sets of three-phase windings, the most harmful 5th harmonic in the air-gap magnetomotive force (MMF) can be completely cancelled in a 7-pair-pole machine. To highlight its advantages, a comparative study is performed by Finite element analysis (FEA). When compared with a conventional 12-slot/14pole three-phase machine and a conventional 12-slot/14pole six-phase machine equipped with fractional-slot concentrated winding (FSCW), the machine with the proposed winding arrangement can offer lower losses, high efficiency, lower torque ripple and lower required voltage of battery. © 2017 IEEE.

Positioning systems with motors are widely used in industrial use. Many production systems, mechatronics systems or industrial robots use high speed and high precision positioning systems with motors. Generally, the controllers of the positioning systems are proportional-to-proportional-integral (P-PI) controllers. They are often used because they have small overshoots and easy to tune. However, it needs fine-tunings to make settling motions smooth. There may be two reasons why the fine-tunings are needed for P-PI controllers. One is the pole assignment constraint of P-PI controller. Three poles of the P-PI control systems for motor positioning cannot be assigned freely. One of the three poles always stay at a slow position. Another reason is the digital delay when the P-PI controllers are applied to the practical systems. The digital system with the delay becomes vibrational because of the phase delay of the calculation time. It makes the overshoot of the trajectory. In this paper, the influences and solutions of the pole assignment constraint and the digital delay are shown. The pole assignment constraint limits the performance of the closed loop. The feedforward controller is shown to be the solution of this constraint. The digital delay makes the overshoot, but it can be corrected by the limited pole placement (LPP) method proposed by the author. It enables accurate pole-zero assignment without overshoots under the conditions of the digital delay. © 2024 IEEE.

Surface defects introduced by conventional mechanical processing methods can induce irreversible damage and reduce the service life of optics applied in high-power *** to mechanical processing,laser polishing with moving beam spot is a noncontact processing method,which is able to form a defect-free *** work aims to explore the mechanism of forming a smooth,defect-free fused silica surface by high-power density laser polishing with coupled multiple *** underlying mechanisms of laser polishing was revealed by numerical simulations and the theoretical results were verified by *** simulated polishing depth and machined surface morphology were in close agreement with the experimental *** obtain the optimized polishing quality,the effects of laser polishing parameters(*** rate,pulse width and polishing times)on the polishing quality were experimentally *** was found that the processing efficiency of fused silica materials by carbon dioxide(CO2)laser polishing could reach 8.68 mm2 s−1,and the surface roughness(Ra)was better than 25 ***,the cracks on pristine fused silica surfaces introduced by initial grinding process were completely removed by laser polishing to achieve a defect-free *** maximum laser polishing rate can reach 3.88μm s−1,much higher than that of the traditional mechanical polishing *** rapid CO2 laser polishing can effectively achieve smooth,defect-free surface,which is of great significance to improve the surface quality of fused silica optics applied in high-power laser facilities.

A new psychological model for efficient data transmission in mobile networks under communication constrains is proposed. It accounts for user personality characteristics to determine the feasible path for packet transmission from source to target and to predict the availability of the communication resources based on dynamically determined level of node generosity. Two case studies are presented with initial performance better than chance. The model is designed for the developed framework of evolving fuzzy modeling in mobile Ad hoc networks via lightweight online unsupervised learning. © 2010 IEEE.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for high-precision speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), drawing significant attention to the issue of inherent current measurement errors in drive control. This paper presents a novel approach to mitigate periodic speed fluctuations using an expert system-based iterative learning control (ILC) method. The proposed method employs an expert system to dynamically adjust the weight values of the memory factor during online updates. This ensures the calculated relaxation factor optimally suppresses speed fluctuations across all operating conditions. Furthermore, the stability and parameter tuning aspects are analyzed from the perspective of transfer functions, and the feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation. © 2023 IEEE.

A new method for on-line dynamics monitoring of three physiological states of fed-batch E. coli fermentation is proposed. The method is based on the acetate kinetics accepted as adaptive key parameter for recognition of current physiological state. Software sensors of main kinetic parameters are derived. They are connected in cascade scheme with inputs on-line measurements of acetate and glucose concentrations. In the outputs the on-line information of three biomass growth rates and biomass concentration is received. Tuning of the estimation algorithms is realized. The efficiency of the proposed method is investigated by simulations using a new biochemical process model. Discussion about the accuracy of obtained estimates and their relationship with the values of tuning parameters is done. The proposed method could be applied for control algorithms design for each physiological state. © 2017 by the authors.

Design and Experiment of Triangular Prism Mast with Tape-Spring Hyperelastic Hinges

Because of the limited space of the launch rockets, deployable mechanisms are always used to solve the phenomenon. One dimensional deployable mast can deploy and support antenna, solar sail and space optical camera. Tape-spring hyperelastic hinges can be folded and extended into a rod like configuration. It utilizes the strain energy to realize self-deploying and drive the other structures. One kind of triangular prism mast with tape-spring hyperelastic hinges is proposed and developed. Stretching and compression stiffness theoretical model are established with considering the tape-spring hyperelastic hinges based on static theory. The finite element model of ten-module triangular prism mast is set up by ABAQUS with the tape-spring hyperelastic hinge and parameter study is performed to investigate the influence of thickness, section angle and radius. Two-module TPM is processed and tested the compression stiffness by the laser displacement sensor, deploying repeat accuracy by the high speed camera, modal shape and fundamental frequency at cantilever position by LMS multi-channel vibration test and analysis system, which are used to verify precision of the theoretical and finite element models of ten-module triangular prism mast with the tape-spring hyperelastic hinges. This research proposes an innovative one dimensional triangular prism with tape-spring hyperelastic hinge which has great application value to the space deployable mechanisms.

To exactly detect the water ice of the South Pole of the moon, a lunar regolith in-situ analysis payload deploying a mass spectrometer is proposed for China future lunar exploration missions. In order to receive the lunar regolith sample from a robotic arm with a soil sampler and transfer it into a furnace for further analysis, a sample manipulation mechanism is required during the above work flow. To solve the problems of adapting the sampler's docking accuracy, receiving and transferring two different types of lunar soil sample under times of in-situ analysis, etc., a sample repetitive manipulation mechanism (SRMM) is proposed in this paper. By using a floating adjustable docking components and a flexible hopper, two types of encapsulated regolith sample and bulk material sample can be received with minimal sample loss, respectively. In order to receive and transfer two types of samples multiple times, two sample receiving methods have been designed that can be repeatedly transferred. A worm and worm wheel combined with a ball screw is designed in SRMM. To verify the above mechanism design, validation experiments were conducted. It indicates that this novel SRMM can be deployed in the future mission after further environmental tests. © 2023 IEEE.

With a proper combination of compliant and position- controlled joints, a link system can change its posture with keeping contact between link system and environment. This motion is so-called Self-Posture Changing Motion (SPCM). This paper first discusses several key technologies to realize a SPCM with defining it in a general form available for plane contact as well as point contact. A SPCM can be applied for detecting an approximate contact point between a 2-D link system and an unknown object. The second goal of this paper is to explore a scheme capable of providing a closer point to the object's surface. In order to evaluate a computing scheme, Degree-of-Approximation (I).O.A) is newly introduced. This is defined as the distance between a computed point and the nearest point over the object's surface. We finally proposes a scheme which improves D.O.A and provides an exact contact point not only for a sharp-edged object but also for a constant curved object. © 1992 IEEE. All rights reserved.
