A novel fault classification method based on neural network in smart grid

This paper presents a back propagation (BP) neural network method to identify fault types and phases in the smart grid with renewable sources. A fault classification method based on the BP neural network is used to identify patterns of voltage and current measured with phasor measurement unit (PMU). The voltage and current values are decomposed, and then they are used as the input matrix of the BP neural network, which identifies the fault type and fault phasor. All the common short-circuit faults occurred are analyzed, BP neural network method is proposed for fault classification in a power active distribution network. Simulation results show feasibility and usefulness of the BP neural network method, which provides good classification performances.

Flight-to-gate assignment problem is one of the focused issues in the field of air transportation management and optimization. This paper focuses on improving the used airport gate utilization and minimizing passenger transfer tension via making a reasonable flight-to-gate strategy. A two-stage mathematical model has been formulated. In the first stage, we are aiming to minimize the transfer tension of passengers. Based on the flight-to-gate assignment result from the first stage, the second stage aims to increase the utilization rate of airport gates. Finally, a flight-to-gate assignment plan is designed to certify the validity of our model.

Time-varying formation pursuit based cooperative（TFPBC） guidance for multiple missiles to intercept a maneuvering target is investigated. In TFPBC guidance, multiple missiles are not only expected to intercept the target simultaneously but also need to form a desired time-varying formation configuration during the engagement. The motivation for TFPBC guidance is to create a favorable relative geometry for multiple missiles, which may enclose a maneuvering target and then improve the hit performance. Multiple missiles are classified into leader missile and follower missiles. TFPBC guidance law for the leader missile and follower missiles is constructed, respectively. An approach with four steps to determine the parameters in the TFPBC guidance law is given. The convergence of the designed TFPBC guidance law is proved. A numerical example for multiple missiles to intercept a maneuvering target is provided.

Spacecraft swarm poses great advantages in various fields that are rapidly evolving with the demands for fulfilling multi-purpose space exploration missions, such as flight observations, environmental awareness, and data transmission. In the paper, a new distributed autonomous control method for spacecraft swarm formation flying is developed based on the theory of artificial potential field and sliding mode control method. Inspired by the dynamic system theory, artificial potential velocity field of the spacecraft swarm is designed by using the nonlinear bifurcation theory to generate desired motion path. The artificial velocity field is mainly used to generate the velocity command, which can set planning path in real time. Each agent in the swarm can be driven to reach some corresponding desired position without external command, which greatly reduces the complexity of the planning algorithm. Sliding mode control is used to ensure the precise tracking control for members and system robustness to eliminate external disturbance and uncertainties. Numerical simulations are presented to show the feasibility of the proposed control strategy, which can achieve various desired swarm formation flying configurations and accomplish formation capture, maintenance and reconstruction successfully. © 2018, American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. This paper presents an Enhanced Moth-Flame Optimization （EMFO） technique based on Cultural Learning （CL） and Gaussian Mutation （GM）. The mechanism of CL and the operator of GM are incorporated to the original algorithm of Moth-Flame Optimization （MFO）. CL plays an important role in the inheritance of historical experiences and stimulates moths to obtain information from flames more effectively, which helps MFO enhance its searching ability. Furthermore, in order to overcome the disadvantage of trapping into local optima, the operator of GM is introduced to MFO. This operator acts on the best flame in order to generate several variant ones, which can increase the diversity. The proposed algorithm of EMFO has been comprehensively evaluated on 13 benchmark functions, in comparison with MFO. Simulation results verify that EMFO shows a significant improvement on MFO, in terms of solution quality and algorithmic reliability.

Background: The influence of rising global temperatures on malaria dynamics and distribution remains controversial, especially in central highland regions. We aimed to address this subject by studying the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of malaria and the effect of climate change on malaria transmission over 27 years in Hainan, an island province in China. Methods: For this longitudinal cohort study, we used a decades-long dataset of malaria incidence reports from Hainan, China, to investigate the pattern of malaria transmission in Hainan relative to temperature and the incidence at increasing altitudes. Climatic data were obtained from the local meteorological stations in Hainan during 1984–2010 and the WorldClim dataset. A temperature-dependent R₀ model and negative binomial generalised linear model were used to decipher the relationship between climate factors and malaria incidence in the tropical region. Findings: Over the past few decades, the annual peak incidence has appeared earlier in the central highland regions but later in low-altitude regions in Hainan, China. Results from the temperature-dependent model showed that these long-term changes of incidence peak timing are linked to rising temperatures (of about 1·5°C). Further, a 1°C increase corresponds to a change in cases of malaria from –5·6% (95% CI –4·5 to –6·6) to –9·2% (95% CI –7·6 to –10·9) from the northern plain regions to the central highland regions during the rainy season. In the dry season, the change in cases would be 4·6% (95% CI 3·7 to 5·5) to 11·9% (95% CI 9·8 to 14·2) from low-altitude areas to high-altitude areas. Interpretation: Our study empirically supports the idea that increasing temperatures can generate opposing effects on malaria dynamics for lowland and highland regions. This should be further investigated and incorporated into future modelling, disease burden calculations, and malaria control, with attention for central highland regions under climate change. Since Dynamic demand response (DDR) has the characteristics of large quantity and uncertainty, it is difficult to get accurate response power in real time. At the same time, it is very important to know the execution adjustment of DDR accurately and quickly for updating DDR control strategy and frequency regulation of power system. In this paper, we design an extended disturbance observer (EDO) to estimate the execution adjustment of DDR. Firstly, in order to facilitate the design of estimation scheme, a simplified load frequency control (LFC) model is obtained by using model fitting method. Then, by combining the load variation with tie-line power exchange as an extended disturbance, a reduced-order LFC model of power system is derived. Finally, based on the reduced-order LFC model, EDO can be designed by pole-assignment method. The execution adjustment of DDR can be obtained by subtracting the measured value of tie-line power from the estimated value of the observer. From the simulation results of a multi-area LFC control system, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated.

We have successfully achieved manipulation and assembly of microbeads having the size of 100μm diameter by hemispherical end-effectors with high stability and accuracy. The motivation of achieving assembly of actual cells lies in the great significance of it in tissue regeneration and cell analysis. Firstly, the most difficult problem we need to solve is the releasing problem caused by adhesion force. The viscosity on cell surface is much larger than the microbeads which makes cell releasing challenging. Secondly, the cell can generate its deformation, then contact area with end-effector will change during grasping process. This may influence the adhesion force and also bring problem to releasing. Thirdly, cell is much smaller, around 15μm in diameter, so we need to fabricate smaller end-effector to achieve successful manipulation and ensure the stability in the meantime. In this paper, we realize the manipulation by decreasing the adhesion forces and apply vibration to release a cell stably. We found the appropriate scale size for the end-effector is around 10μm diameter. It can not only grasp a 15μm cell but also bring little interference to the environment. As a demonstration of the proposed manipulation method, the repeated experiments were conducted to explore the dependence of adhesion force on the grasping distance, which can be helpful in the improvement of successful rate. Finally, we achieved automatic cell assembly using Hela cells.

When naval vessels moving on the sea, the carrier air wake disturbance will arise. The carrier air wake makes the landing environment of carrier aircraft fair adverse, which puts forward a high demand for the high precise attitude control of carrier based aircrafts. In this paper, high precise robust attitude control problems for carrier based aircrafts with the carrier air wake disturbance are investigated. Firstly, the small disturbance linearization method is introduced to transform the nonlinear system into a linear one, which is a necessary procedure for aircraft system analysis and controller design. Secondly, the model of the carrier air wake disturbance is established and its effects on the aerodynamic parameters are analyzed in detail. Then the effects are transformed into the augmented disturbance in the system. Thirdly, a nonlinear extended state observer is utilized to estimate the disturbance. Besides, a robust adaptive attitude controller with integral term is proposed to achieve high precision attitude tracking. The stability of the closed-loop system is prove based on Lyapunov theory. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.
