A cryogenic loop heat pipe (CLHP) is an efficient two-phase heat transfer device. It works without mechanical moving parts, external power, vibrations and electromagnetic interference. Hence, the CLHP can isolate optics and detectors from mechanical vibrations and improve image quality of large Far Infrared space telescopes. In this experiment, the working fluid was nitrogen and the operating temperature range was 80–120K. The method of supercritical startup was by applying capillary pump with power. In this paper, the effects of different capillary pump powers on supercritical startup characteristics, relationship between charge pressure and heat transfer limit were studied. In the end, the responsiveness and temperature stability with heat load changing cyclically were investigated. The CLHP could achieve successful startup under auxiliary heat load of 2W and got a heat transport capacity of 3W.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) provides a new way to express our minds without peripheral nerves and muscles. In this work, a process control recognition method based on continuous flickering is proposed to output continuous commands. Phase matching method was applied in this work, matching the test data with the template with the same phase to improve the accuracy. We also put forward a high tolerance criterion and give a new definition to the recognition result of attention shift period. We first conducted a screen-based continuous flickering feasibility verification experiment using correlation component analysis algorithm (TRCA) method, and the recognition accuracy reached 85% and 90% under high tolerance criterion. The average offline simulation information translates rate (ITR) was 455.8 bit/min, and the highest ITR reached 524.7bit/min, which certificated the feasibility. Furthermore, we carried out a drone control experiment based on augmented reality (AR)-BCI using extended filter bank canonical correlation analysis (extended-FBCCA), and achieved an average accuracy of 90% and ITR of 49.1 bit/min, having better performance than repetitive visual stimulus (RVS) with intervals.

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle（AUV） is referred as a promising device to extend human intelligences to harsh underwater *** applications of AUV demand accurate trajectory tracking,however the nonlinear and model inaccuracy constraints on AUV make it challenging to achieve tracking *** this paper,we are concerned with the trajectory tracking problem for *** AUV is assumed to be auto navigated in surge,sway,heave and *** first give the 4-DOF mathematical model of ***,the tracking control problem is formulated into T-S fuzzy *** on this,T-S fuzzy-based position and head controllers,which depend on the relative state errors between the AUV and reference,are designed for AUV to achieve the trajectory tracking ***,simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed tracking controllers,wherein the influence of chattering problem can be reduced by compared with SMC-based controller.

In recent years, the research about modeling methods for robots and computer numerical control (CNC) machines has been developed rapidly. In this paper, in order to reduce the materials cost, according to the kinematic chain characteristics of the serial robot joint, the carving manipulator model is established by using SimMechanics toolbox. At the same time, its' three-dimensional (3D) model is constructed using SolidWorks, which is imported into ADAMS to obtain 3D dynamics model. Then, the two modular models are compared by providing the constant overlap spiral trajectory. The results of simulation show that preset path of the cutting tool can be accurately obtained by using the simulation models, which demonstrate that the modular modeling is a rational and effective technique.

We newly propose a high-speed robotic system that can investigate running insects such as ants on a 2D space. The developed system comprises a high-speed actuator (inkjet mechanism) that can make $\pmb{100\ \mu\text{m}}$ sized droplets with a 3 m/s ejection speed using a piezoelectric actuator and a high-speed online vision sensor. The design and implementation of the system is described, and its performance was confirmed through the experiments with actual running ants. This system provides on-line investigation with high functionality that has been difficult to achieve with previous approaches and contributes towards the discovery of previously unknown functions and dynamic behaviors of insects in the bioscience fields.

Two types of lignin-based carbon fibers were prepared by electrospinning method. The first was activated with Fe304 （LCF-Fe）, and the second was not activated with Fe3O4 （LCF）. Gas phase adsorption isotherms for toluene on LCF-Fe and LCF were studied. The gas phase adsorption isotherm for 0% RH showed LCF-Fe have about 439 mg/g adsorption capacity which was close to that of commercially available activated carbon （500 rag/g）. The Dubinin-Radushkevich equation described the isotherm data very well. Competitive adsorption isotherms between water vapor and toluene were measured for their RH from 0 to 80%. The effect of humidity on toluene gas-phase adsorption was predicted by using the Okazaki et al. model. In addition, a constant pattern homogeneous surface diffusion model （CPHSDM） was used to predict the toluene breakthrough curve of continuous flow-packed columns containing LCF-Fe, and its capacity was 412 mg/g. Our study, which included material characterization, adsorption isotherms, kinetics, the impact of humidity and fixed bed performance modeling, demonstrated the suitability of lignin-based carbon fiber for volatile organic compound removal from gas streams .

In multi-target tracking (MTT), the imprecise model for sensor characteristics might result in poor performance. The Variational Bayesian labeled multi-Bernoulli (VB-LMB) filter based on Gamma distribution can handle this problem. However, the predictive likelihood of the existing VB-LMB filter is simply treated as a Gaussian, which is inaccurate. In this paper, a VB-LMB filter with inverse Wishart distribution is presented to perform MTT under the unknown sensor characteristics. The measurement noise covariance is modeled as an inverse Wishart (IW) distribution. This distribution has potential to deal with the full noise covariance matrix compared with the Gamma distribution. Since the state and the measurement noise covariance are coupled, the updated equation can be solved by variational Bayesian (VB) method. The predictive likelihood is calculated via minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence by the VB lower bound. A MTT scenario is used to evaluate the proposed method. Simulation results show that our approach has better performance than the existing VB-LMB filter with the Gamma distribution.

The Medium Energy X-ray telescope (ME) is one of the three main telescopes on board the Insight Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) astronomy satellite. ME contains 1728 pixels of Si-PIN detectors sensitive in 5-30 keV with a total geometrical area of 952 cm2. Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chips, VA32TA6, is used to achieve low power consumption and low readout noise. The collimators define three kinds of field of views (FOVs) for the telescope, 1°×4°, 4°×4°, and blocked ones. Combination of such FOVs can be used to estimate the in-orbit X-ray and particle background components. The energy resolution of ME is ~3 keV at 17.8 keV (FWHM) and the time resolution is 255 μs. This paper presents a novel method for pair-wise range image registration, a backbone task in world modeling, parts inspection and manufacture, object recognition, pose estimation, robotic navigation, and reverse engineering. The method finds the most suitable homogeneous transformation matrix between two constructed range images to create a more complete 3D view of a scene. The proposed solution integrates a ray casting-based fitness estimation with a global optimization method called improved self-adaptive differential evolution. This method eliminates the fine registration steps of the well-known iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm used in previously proposed methods, and thus, is the first direct global registration algorithm. With its parallel implementation potential, the ray casting-based algorithm speeds up the fitness calculation for the global optimization method, which effectively exploits the search space to find the best transformation solution. The integration was successfully implemented in a parallel paradigm on a multi-core computer processor to solve a simultaneous 3D localization problem. The fast, accurate, and robust results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves on the registration problem over state-of-the-art algorithms. © The Author(s).
